I'm sure this has been covered before, but since I couldn't find anything in the search, I figured I'd ask again.
Which fighters do most people use for carriers? Normally when I see them in use, I see a mix of all types, but there has to be one that is better than the others. Unlike drones, there is no difference in DPS, the difference is in the damage mod, firing speed, HP and movement speed of the fighters. I would assume that shooting more and doing the same DPS is an advantage since your misses matter less, so the Dragonfly is probably one of the worst.
Does anyone else have opinions about this?

i'm picking the ones that do the/kin damage as their main, since those are the lowest two resists on average pvp tanks

I'd say, The Firbolg, a Gallente Fighter used by carriers.

A mix means you're not lacking on any particular damage type.
Personally, I think Einherji just look cool, but because of their expl/kin bias some support from Templars and Dragonflys isn't a bad thing.
Personally I wouldn't bother with Firbolgs. Not only do they look silly, if you've got a set of the above, you've got extremes of optimal, tracking and damage types covered.

Einherji's are the fastest in both speed and rate of fire, and work well with faster moving targets.
Firbolg's are just like Ogre's. Pretty slow, but hit with good penetration when they get there.
Templar's are awesome against heavily shield tanked ships. It just obliterates their shields faster than their repairers can replace it.
Dragonfly's do the most 'burst damage' of all the fighters. They are the slowest of the fighters, but are excellent at killing targets with heavy tanks as well. Just forget about using them though if the target is a long ways away. I've had Einherji's kill a target before the trailer Dragonfly's even get there.
Of course with that all being said, and has been mentioned a few times up above, a mix of Fighters works best for targets with unknown setups. Hitting them with all four damage types (with you watching intently), will reveal their weakest resist. It's then easy to switch Fighter types if the target is adequately tackled.
After reviewing my killmails from the last year however, I notice that the most final blows for the Fighters go in this order (most to least).
Firbolg -> Einherji -> Templar ->Dragonfly
I can honestly say that the Dragonfly's are at the bottom because they move the slowest, so I don't use them as often. However it's surprising that the Firbolg's have more final blows even though the Einherji's get there first. Things that make you go Hmmmm(tm).
A while ago I made a simple Fighter Worksheet to 'ballpark' the different ways fighters work, and their damage output. Here's a picture of it -> Fighter Worksheet Picture. Please bear in mind that I just found the below mentioned "Drone Calculator" Spreadsheet, which shows me that my figures were off. Like I said... it was just to 'ballpark' the numbers. An interesting thing that is shows is their damage output per burst. Check out the pic and you'll see what I mean!
If you have not checked it out yet. Read Ebedar's Drone Calculator Thread, and download his spreadsheet. It provides lots of useful information about Drones and Fighters! Not to mention accurate numbers! WHOOT!
In case you were wondering.. I have 14 months of carrier experience to backup my opinion! __________

Yep, no doubt the Templar is one awsome looking CCP Ship Design. Also THIS and THIS work well when controlling Fighters.
They also make nice Desktop Wallpapers. __________
