So we know something already, watching fanfest. It will be analyzing real light curves as data in this project, playing with curves. That will be some real science, I think a lot more difficult than just categorizing images. Shocked

If you think about it Eve Online covers pretty much all of the time zones and has around 20,000 members on at any time. The University of Geneva hardly has 20,000 members who are able to compile and process the large amount of data that the mainframe of Eve Online is able to compile and process.

People want to be part of something that is meaningful if not prophetic.

Being part of Exo Planet Hunting will be meaningful as well as prophetic as no other environment other than Eve Online has immersed its Capsuleer's in the reality of space exploration.

Some in-game rewards though are in order such as:

Exo Planet Hunting attire
Exo Planet Hunting skins
Exo Planet Hunting ships and modules

Out of game rewards:

Exo Planet Hunters Jacket
Exo Planet Hunters Mens underwear
Exo Planet Hunters Woman's brazier
Exo Planet Hunters Watch Cap and Ball Cap
Exo Planet Hunters Patch

I have been part of few exo planet hunting programs that are really fun and interesting.

I think I even found a black hole as there was an area of space about the size of a half dollar coin with light all around it. A normal sun would appear in the same manner but with the circle of the sun appearing in the center of it.

Is that from fanfest? Are there pics of exo attire/skins?

No, it was posted before fanfest and its just an idea.

I think some rewards will be there to grab. Maybe something exploration or planetary interaction themed. Maybe science outfits or something like that, there are still white lab coats unreleased.

Maybe something along the lines of new suits that enhance attributes, hardwiring and the actual attributes of the ship using nano polymorhphing technology that allows the Capsuleer to make minor physical changes to her or his ship systems.

WOW... that's a great move. I love how CCP struggles to integrate real life science into eve gameplay. Would it matter if you discover something while being paid to do so (meaning you must have the skills to do it) or if you have fun playing a game and discover something great in real life. Humanity must come together if progress is to be made! Currency is important too, but what matters most is the evolution of the human race!

Good job!

As someone with many hours, well over level 1000 and a 99.9% accuracy in stage 1 after playing this for half an hour and failing every time all I can say and advise is that CCP rethinks what it has done.

After being told that I did everything right except 2 samples in the tutorial I am now at 26.9% accuracy. I cannot spot ANY of the patterns I was asked to find in the tutorial except I get shown patterns I could not identify even when folding.

All my hard work in stage 1 seems to have been spat in my face and I hope that if I am not the only one CCP immediately rethinks the entire system.

I like to help but it seems stage 2 is currently not for me.

I'm a little dismayed by the number of missed transits in the calibration samples. "Analysis Failed" indeed. Unfortunately unlike the first Project Discovery there's no option to report questionable examples. Perhaps this is a feature that should be added.

CCP dont put the difficulty in finding a planet.... with random result like we get right now

Make the difficulty to be able to find 2-3 planet...

Maybe you can spot the easy one, but did you miss the less obvious one.

Now it seem, for the eyes of many players, that everything is random and the inconsistent between answer provided doesn't make us feel we are improving...

Totally agree especially after todays update. I had an accuracy of 93% in finding exoplanets. But now the answers are completely random.

It's nealry impossible to hit a correct answer when following the instructions of the tutorial.

A question about design. Why were the light points connected with lines. Finding possible planets is unnecessarily difficult.
On the official site of Planet 9, only points can be seen. By connecting the points to the lines, a visual effect is generated that is too much visual. Currently, the graphical representation looks as if it were the DAX index of Volkswagen on the stock exchange. QuestionQuestion

had 98% rating on stage 1 ... getting everything wrong here. I thought it was me being bad until I zoomed in all the way on one of the things I "failed". The yellow dots were not showing any indication of a transit, they were completely random and in a lot of cases were humps. Absolutely no signal in the noise. That's when I realized this thing is completely broken.

I've seen this exact project done better before here : https://www.zooniverse.org/projects/ianc2/exoplanet-explorers/classify

Okay there seems to be three categories of samples:
The ones even a 3rd grader could pick out
The not-so-obvious ones that still stand out to a keen eye
And the ones that nothing but an algorithm could have picked out; including their false positives
The overwhelming majority seems to belong to the third kind.

You know, i have a better idea. Why not just have a program like SETI@Home where you let those algorithms (who are much better at this than any of us) run on borrowed CPU time? Most people playing this game good gaming PC's with a lot of firepower, so it would be the perfect fit. You could pay some ISK for every some block of data done. Yes this would allow people to just mine ISK; however they are actively contributing computational power to science; a much more useful contribution if you ask me.

To date I have discovered 200 transits. Some are difficult and some are hard. I am currently level 54 with a 92% accuracy score. I have taken screenshots of nearly almost all successful analysis and some failed analysis.

Exo-Planet Search is a good past time for miners and station dwellers. I have over 50 Exo Planet skins and recently built the Pacifier.

There are hundreds of a thousands of snap shots that CoRot has taken of planets. Sometimes CoRot will same its frame rate at five minutes or 20 minutes. Within the twenty minute time period four snapshots of a sun have been taken compared to the single snapshot of twenty minutes. The data for the five minute snapshots would track a planetary transit much better than the 20 minute snapshot because the downtrend of the planet causing the dip in the light curve is more prevalent.

A planetary transit is basically like being in a PVP battle.

Five minute snapshot - A battleship launches barrage after barrage of missiles at another battleship that consistently reduces the 1st battleships shields creating a dip in the battleships shields that very noticeable.

Twenty minute snapshot - A battleship launches a barrage and then waits a minute to launch the second barrage at the 1st battleship. The damage to the shield of the first battleship is not as noticeable as the shields are recharged in between each attack.

So as you can see having miners and station dwellers using their time in between mining cycles and order placements does help the astronomers manage the data. Data management that would take years to sift through with the limited number of astronomers that astronomy actually has.

The program is also a test of patience that separates those who have to have everything now and really do not want to put the effort into doing anything.
