Hi all,
after comparing the attributes of cruisers und battle cruisers I saw no real benefit of a cruiser except of its lower price!
- a cruiser is not _really_ faster (Thorax 180, Myrmidon 145 m/s) because: a cruiser has no spare med slot for an afterburner/mwd - a BC has!
- cruisers and BCs have the same shield recharge time
- cruisers have (of course) fewer slots, shield, armor, cap
My first intention was to see a BC as a long range sniping ship and a cruisers as a hard and fast attacking short range ship. But now I think assault ships are better for this short range job.

Thorax is able to run from certain situations that myrmidon isn't able to, sig radius mass speed etc, btw thorax goes 1.7k? and myrm goes 1.2k? with mwd these are off the top of my head here.

cruiser = cheap. cruiser = fairly fast + manuverable. cruiser = better firepower than all frigs (dependant on the cruiser.)
the only thing is, a bc is a step up from a cruiser. so why the hell shouldnt it be better?
And assult frigs do have good manuverablity but for a frig, it just doesnt cut it. and the fact they cost more than a tier 1 bc and can be popped by a properly fitted cruiser.
yes i fly an ishkur, but if i find a good target i have to be careful simply because if their smart you might just get screwed over massivly.
in short. BC = bigger, more firepower, slowish. Cruiser = cheap, good firepower, as fast or faster than most afs unfortunately. AF = fun, nice firepower, more manuverable than a cruiser.

Cruisers are cheap enough to be expendable for most players, so thats why they're used a lot.
Also all the bonuses mentioned above - faster, more maneuvrable etc. Also you get specialised ewar cruisers like Blackbird, Arbitrator etc which you don't get in BC form.

cruisers are no worse and no better than BC's when will people in this game see that each ship has a role and there is no "best" (okie maybe i lie a bit), cruisers are much faster/agil, often cheaper and in certain cases do more damage than BC's. BC's often have a bigger tank but that is offset that battleships can hit the things where a cruiser will normally not take as much damage.
and to you comment - some BC's do snipe (ferox) some are more powerful in close range (brutix). -------------------------------------

A few things, but mostly that you shouldn't post on EvE forums before you understand the game.
Ok, firstly:
The amount of med slots you have is not really dependant on your ship class, but on your race, and indeed on the ship itself.
Secondly, I've not seen a thorax without a mwd for a very long time. 3 mids for mwd / web / scram, I'm not sure what other mod you are deeming more important than the mwd but you're wrong, whatever it is.
Thirdly, a cruiser is indeed cheaper than a battlecruiser. This is a large advantage.
Fourthly, cruisers are massively more agile than battlecruisers. I will jump around blind in 0.0 in my rupture and usually get away with it. I wouldn't try that in a cyclone.
And lastly, a speed difference of 180 to 145 translates as about 25% faster. Add to this the fact that there is no mwd size between cruiser and battleship and that battlecruisers mass considerably more than cruisers, and you are left with the fact that BCs are considerably slower than cruisers with similar fittings, about half to 2/3rds the speed.
I can only conclude that you, sir, know nothing about what you have posted and should refrain from starting further threads until you have perhaps flown the odd battlecruiser in eve.

When 2 t1 fitted cruisers can take down something worth over 200 mil. they are hardely underpowered.
Every1 can fly a cruiser realy. and most peaple do it good too. So if 5 guys get into a cruiser each, are good pvpers to start amd know what they are doing. There is no ISK investment to save you exept maybe a ransom if they jump you. A pack of celestis and arbitrators are REALY nasty, same for thorax and ruppies.
And the fact they are fast, cheap, easy obtained even in deep 0.0 makes htem ideal for this game. So why you complain about a feature? sure if something costs 2-3 times as much its better. For obvious reasons.

replace young BC pilot for a middle aged BS pilot and your on it. Have seen my corp mates solo Ravens and blasterthrons in their plateraxes. dont ask me how they did it. but they killed hte BSes. SOLO IN A CRUISER. its all down to pilot skill on both ends.
So its all about the pilot. just because you can fly a tier 2 Battlecruiser doesnt mean your good. Nor if you ahve the t2 equipment. all comes down to the pilot in the end.
(oh btw, MHC rocks for good kills and good pvp \o/)

Ok granted, maybe I should post such questions in New Citizens Q&A .... but till now I thought this forum is for asking questions und discussing opinions. But thanks for your advice.
Anyway.
Recapitulating all your posts - I didn't consider sig radius and ship agility! And - for sure - the price _is_ an argument.

What you said - lower price.
A Caracal should be able to kill most mining barges, and insurance premium included you won't loose more than 1.5 mil if you loose the ship even at an unfavourable price situation (assuming all tech I fittings).
Its the small man's PvP ship if you don't entirely suck at picking your battles.
Edit: you might even get away cheaper and/or have a better ship with other cruisers, the caracal is just an example from top of my head. --

The amount of mid-slots NOT depended on shipclass?! With some exceptions, the bigger the ships, the more slots you have. Better post about things you know something about...
An MWD is NOT an I-win module, don't know why you suggest that. What would happen to your Thorax if you meet some1 with 25% more CAP than you? Suckers?
Cheaper than a BC? At some point in the game money is not an issue anymore; 5 mil or 35 mil, who cares?
Have you thought about advantages of a BC? Especcially when you are in a gang?

There are some cruisers that just don't have a counterpart at BC level. Nothing in the Amarr line up bigger than a cruiser can do what the Arb and its T2 variants do to and equal or better level. - - - - - - - - - -

Oh, you want clarification? Sorry -
Amount of mids is NOT dependent on ship size. Take this example - Armageddon is a BS and has 3 mids. A blackbird is a cruiser and has 6. Want to stick to just amarr? The arbitrator is an amarr cruiser, and even it has 4 mids.
LMAO at your thorax example, "What would happen to your Thorax if you meet some1 with 25% more CAP than you? Suckers?"
Originally by: Thorax description Special Ability: 5% bonus to Medium Hybrid Turret damage per level and 5% less penalty to max capacitor for MicroWarpdrive usage per level.
. Fitting an mwd to a rax does not give 25% reduction in total cap. SGB might have had a bit of a grumpy tone but what he wrote is correct. Nub alts like you shouldn't smack if you don't know any better.

1 Cruiser equals 15-30min of rating 1 BC is 2 or 3 hours of ratting (both including fottings)
Cruisers willbe primaried way after the BCs :)\ Cruiser warp out way faster (compare a stabber with any BC)

I thought the bonus of the Thorax was no cap penalty from using MWD (assuming gallente cruiser V) ? If so, the Thorax was probably not the best ship to use as an example in this context. :)

Well firstly cruisers are cheap easily replacable and they¦re awesome. Don¦t even get me started on assault frigs cause they are so bad that i wouldn¦t know where to begin to describe how bad they are except that vs web he¦s roasted. Also the cruiser has better agility and radius.
Ofc the bc is better what do you think you¦r paying 20 mils more for it but a thorax with heavy tank, full rack of guns and cap booster, scrambler and mwd is just plain deadly. And it does make a difference the speed when you¦ve turned you¦re mwd on.
The number of slots depends on ship and race but a mwd is a must + scrambler and a web or cap booster. What were you gonna use i ask?

I am a pretty good BS pilot by now, but in PVP, it is stabber for me! it is a great heavy scout, amazing speed, OK damage, and fun to fly. When their isn't an inty to do the job, I am the one ****ing into systems to scout and tackling. When i fly BCs, they tend to die. When I fly a cruiser, I tend to kill things, and have more fun doing it!
Plus, I am more thn happy to sacrifice my cruisers to hold soemthing long enough for my buddies to warp in and kill it. I loose 4-5 mil isk max. Replacing a full BS is a LOT more than that, and suddenyl I am reluctant to die.
KAMAKAZI! That is why i love cruisers.
