Not sure if this should go here or not but it is a logical place since this is dealing with POS issues.
I love the fact that I am able to salvage parts from ship wrecks and I am able to build rigs from those parts instead of buying NPC sell orders.
One would think that ships would have similar parts as a POS, for example:
Coolant, Mechanical Parts and such...
I think it would be a great idea if CCP would allow at level 4 or level 5 salvaging skill the ability to salvage parts that would let one be self sufficient in running a POS and not have to rely on buying parts from NPC shops. Since one can mine ice and get half the things one needs to run a POS. The next logical step is to be able to get your own coolant/mechanical parts etc... Corporation/Alliances would be just that much closer to being self reliant. I hope other people agree and CCP can make this happen.

They do.
They called NPC convoys. and they pack all those things and more inside of them. SEXEH!

/signed on the OP. It really is a great idea, and makes complete sense IMHO.
In regards to the NPC convoys, I've not seen one of those in 0.0, and I believe the OP is referencing POS's in 0.0 (in terms of self-reliance, not needing to trek back to Empire once a month, or make carrier runs regularly for those NPC buy items).
Assuming that those NPC convoys you reference only exist in Empire (and high-sec empire at that), what's the difference between pew-pewing those things or just buying the items off the market? :D
Love this idea, it would require a lot of work to fuel even one POS with what is salvaged, however it would bring a whole new meaning to the salvaging sub-profession, and possibly turn it into a full time profession.

ummmmmmmmmmmm,
Last time I checked, which is every day since i salvage wrecks every day, one does not get that stuff from a wreck...
I am not talking about ganging a npc convey either, I am talking about salvaging those parts from a wreck that i have blown up...

Convoys drop Oxygen and Coolant. I have not seen a convoy drop Mech, Robo or Uranium in a very long time. -AS |

They do.
Each npc corp will drop the items that they "sell" on the market. Check the item daatabase, npc corps. Lai dai for example sells robos, so they drop them in "thier" convoys. Sisters of EVE, frozen plant seed, etc...
-------
What I would like to see is BPOS of all trade goods, made with moon related materials. Remove npc sell orders entirely. A frozen(ice) moon could make say, coolant or water related products, a "metal" moon, for some of the mech type parts, carbon, base materials could be from basic moons.
Combineing these in various amounts with reactions would produce your "advanced" trade goods. Transmitters, consumer elect, etc...

I actually picked up mechanical parts and uranium the other day after shooting down an Amarrian Convoy.

OK i think everyone is missing the point here...
I am talking about using a salvager on a ship wreck...
NOT looting a wrecks cargo haul...
Forget about looting a cargo haul... Not interested in that...
I want to salvage a ship wreck using a salvager I and long with the regualar salvagable parts, should be coolant, oxygen and other stuff... since all ships need coolant, and your pod needs oxygen since we are humanoids...
So Once again this thread is not about LOOTING a convoy but Salvaging wrecks using a salvager I.

I thought you were concorded if you attacked one of those convoy things??
On topic though, making robotics from salvaged items is an idea. A regular bpo, but the end result doesn't fit into a rig slot, you just get x number of units of robotics or mechanical parts from various "redundant" (and there's a few of those, depending on where you salvage) salvaged items. Life is about memories the more the better. Looking for CCP to improve availability of their GTC's, for non card carriers! |

Dont think adding that stuff to salvage is that good idea. There was reason why salvage stuff got downsized. It's already sometimes tough to loot those level 4 missions where you get scrap metal ocasionaly - that would make it happen in every mission you try to salvage in something smaller than hauler (like destroyer for example).
I would like to get my hands on BPO's for that stuff tho . Altho dont see it happening either - I think it was added to be isk sink and logistical challenge and having to get them from empire is only thing between fully self sufficent alliances (in the sense of not having to visit empire, ever) and current situation.
