So i spent my time making iskies with missions and just by looting, happened to end up with enough junk loot that when refined was enough for a raven..actually 2 if i cared that much to build a second.
Its all about playing smart
EDIT: So yes actually all that time i spent "mining" for the minerals to build the ship, my balance was going up, a nice bit too.
No, it doesn't actually cost you anything, but it's still 100m in assets that could be isk.
Edit to clarify my point: If you can't afford to buy rigs for your ships, and you have 45M worth of rig components, you'd probably prefer to sell them and have the ISK than use it to rig your ship. I would, anyway.

Price of Components make the price for figs, not rig-producers.
Buildcost for the average 18mil rig is 12-13mil, and thats if you are a patient builder that only uses buyorders. ___________________________ Trust In Rust!

And this is why 9 out of 10 businesses fail.
You expended time to accumulate that junk, and whether you choose to recognize the fact or not, your time invested carries a value.

The prices will drop when CCP puts salvage drones in the game but from the absolute skill removal which happened recently (i was lucky i only had lvl 1) they might never introduce them to the game

This really depends on the rigs. As a part-time rig producer I can say that some of these aren't really overpriced. Build cost on a T1 powergrid rig is about 28m ISK. They sell at 37m. Markup, yes, but not obscene. Build cost on a T2 powergrid rig? Just shy of 500m. As for the T2 cap recharge rigs last time I checked. That is ridiculous. Build cost for a T2 armour thermic rig is about 80m-90m ISK and will sell for 120-150 when buyers surface.
As well, rigs are not required. My T1/T2 fit, unrigged Myrmidon (No T2 guns either) turned a rigged Drake inside out in record time. All it takes is some time, and some brains. Work smarter, not harder.
Rigs are fine, in my opinion.
