Ok, so i'm currently working towards getting one of the above ships, and i was wondering if i could get some opinions of both. I've read that the Dominix can be a good all rounder, but i havent heard much about the Myrm. As someone who doesnt have much sp (5mill), and still cant use techII mediums or techII drones, and would only really be using the ship for drone ratting in 0.0, which would be better?

The Domi only costs another 20 mil on a Myrm, yet it carries three times as many drones, has a considerably better tank and can fit large guns or heavy nos. The only reason people use Myrms is that (slightly) lower price, and it's manuevrebility.
Go for a Domi. ---

And the fact that the Myrmidon doesn't look like something you left in your toilet bowl this morning.

Mate, visit a doctor. Now.
The domi is one ugly thing, but... If you want a drone ships and looks, theres only the curse, and its not that great for higher level missions. Great for pvp though.

Domi,
I'd kind of suggest Myrm, because the Myrm is imo the best battlecruiser in-game, and a great ship, for little cost (sold at 38m, insurance payout is like 42m), can do alot of damage and get a damn sweet tank.
And I'd say Myrm even more because you probably can't even T2 medium, let alone large sized modules (n drones). However, a t1 Domi without BS V is already capable of nossing like *hell* from a battlecruiser, and able to put out reasonable damage, not much better than a myrm, but the insane cap-drain from your nos means the opponent hasn't got a tank, and thus you don't need as much damage. 2x Large armor reppers powered the entire time with 25km nos even without T2 Heavies and BS V is better than a blaster or nos Myrm with BC V.
Normally I'd say, go for Myrm, and Domi once you can fit it with T2 and such. But a T1 Domi is most of the time better than a T2 BC especially with the nossing power of battleships.

I'd say Domi.
The myrm is an amazing ship, for a battlecruiser, but battleships fitted with heavy nos are really really ugly on any common-pvp ship's capacitor, and come with range greater than most scramblers. The Domi also barely costs anything, and the Myrm while having a great tank and very nice damage, is hard to fit alot of EW on, therefor your drones will likely be damaged, if not die, and you lose alot of your offensive abilities when that happens. The Domi can bring multiple waves of heavy drones for example, the tank of a battleship is better, and run all this on nos and cap boosters, and break anothers tank with the insane cap drain.
The costs do not outweight those benefits as you pay about 50% more (base, without figuring in insurance and such) while you can drain ship's cap, often disabling their tank and gank, run a great tank, and rip away with drones for long periods even when they're under attack.
Get a Domi.

Dominix = sex potato.
Fly this ship, it contains large amounts of w1n if you know what you're doing (and sometimes if you don't too).

Ok, so i got the Dominix, after everyone seemed to suggest (and there was a spare one in the corp hanger ). So now i need to fit it. I've looked at some of the setups for it, and they all seem to be very high skill point oriented.
So can someone suggest a setup, with some fairly basic equipment, keeping in mind my low skill point char?

For ratting; I use the following:
Hi: 3x Heavy Nos 2x Tractor beams 1x Drone Link Augmentor
Mid: 5x Capacitor recharges
Low: 1x 1600mm Plate 3x Armor Hardners (mix appropriate to type of rat) 1x Large Armor Repairer 1x Medium Armor Repairer
Drones: Bring at least 5 heavies and 5 lights of whatever drone kills the rats you are hunting best. Any additional room you can fill with whatever you like as far as drones.
For example, to hunt Guristas, I'd use 2x kinetic armor hardners and 1x thermal armor hardner, and carry 5x Wasps and 5x Hornets
Also, as you get money or loot, replace any of these fittings with the best you can get.

True.
Domi's better, it's just too damned ugly.

First the Myrmidon, then the Dominix. The myrm looks cooler and requires less skill points. also, get tech 2 drones stat.

Why does everyone hate the way the Domi looks? I've always thought that its looks suit it well, i.e. it doesn't look "badass" like a Megathron does. It looks like a work horse, like your solid, dependable, tough-as-nails warship. Not fancy, not pretty, it just works. Seems to me it fits the character of the ship to a T.
But of course, taste is subjective.

for 0.0 ratting domi wins hands down
fit like 3 nos and large guns in highs, mwd or ab and cap rechargers in mids, LAR and rat specific hardeners in lows
for guns i use lasers to save cash/cargo space on ammo, i usually fit 4x rat specific active hardeners (2 for each dmg type), dcu (i always fit a dcu on gallente bs) and whatever else in lows (dmg mods, cpr, eamn, whatever)

Marquis, I think (as in I haven't checked to be sure) that the Myrmidon, with a passive shield setup, can actually tank better than a Domi... but it would be in a mission running setup and not one that would necessarily be appropriate for 0.0 life (and the potential PvP that goes with such).
Just my two bits. :)
Wred ----- Think out of the box, consider passive shield tanking your Myrmidon, you'll be pleasantly surprised! |

Edited by: Kiiith on 30/04/2007 17:47:55 Ok, so im gonna take the suggestions above, and try them. But for fighting drones (which dont so specific damage iirc), should i pick hardeners, or just add more 1600 plates?
And with just using drones and nos, am i just aiming to repair all the damage done to me, while slowly eating away at them with my drones?
