Stealth Bombers need a dps boost to perform their given role.
Revelations gave all ships an HP boost to prolong fights. This is all well and good with the exception of the stealth bomber. Stealth bombers rely on alpha strikes by their very nature. They have no tank, the ROF on cruise missiles fitted to the bomber is very low even with good skills ~11 sec with t2 cruise , BCU , and cruise spec 3, and ships engaged from long range have the option to just warp away.
In order for the bomber to actually kill something it must be able to do it within the first one or two volleys at which point either the target will run or the bomber must run. Currently the only thing a bomber can kill within that range are t1 frigs and mining ships.
Otherwise the bomber is consigned to a support role for fleets and 0.0 gate camps which severly limits its playability.

One oddball idea that I heard that kinda makes sense, is increase the rate of fire of the cruise missles by about 300% and increase the reload time on the launchers, but decrease the ammo supply to about 5 missles. This way they would be able to fire a salvo of Cruise missles every say 2.5 Seconds, but they'd have say a 1 minute reload time. Since you can't reload while cloaked(or arn't supposed to be) they would have to SS and then reload.
This would give them a lot more punch, but also add in some drawbacks to them as well.

Stealth bombers don't need dps, they need alpha striking power.

Edited by: Zirth on 30/04/2007 23:17:58 Stealth bombers simply suck atm. Something is either afk, and killable by any other ship class, or playing and able to tank your damage, or rip you apart. Might as well take any other ship requiring much less isk and training, like a thorax and doing the job.
I like the concept of stealth and stealth bombing, but I dunno. It's either broken and capable of 1-hitting stuff, or not capable of 1-hitting stuff, and not really usable. Cloaking can be done by other ship classes too, and the speed decrease isn't really that bad. After you uncloak, your cloak barely gives you an advantage when he locks you, and he will if you want more than 1 volley, or your first volley to hit (read something bout missiles not hitting when you don't have a lock.) And one volley really isn't enough, maybe on like an inty, but a relatively skill and isk intensive ship class just to kill inties doesn't seem right.
Stealth bombing needs a boost. Love Mauraude's idea, but as I mentioned earlier, I do believe it's either going to be broken or crap. Imagine 3 stealth bombers warping in cloaked and alpha striking anything. Stuff like that.

I got my jaguar melted by a manticore within seconds. But from what I hear the manticore is simply better than the rest of the Stealth Bombers. Never get popped again! |

Yep, just what this game needs a torpedo boat that can swarm to take out a dread. Actually that isn't a half bad idea...

Easiest way to boost dps of stealth bomber would be to allow them to use both cruise and torps.
In order to make them effective, all that is really needed is the ability to use the Covert Ops 2 cloak (warp while cloaked) and the ability to cloak even when targeted (breaking the target lock), regardless of which cloak they have installed.
This would give them a unique defense, but balanced by how fragile they are, plus keep them vulnerable enough as they couldn't cloak until the missiles have hit anyway.
It would also make them huge amounts of fun! ------------------------------------------------ Just because your not paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you! |

*near the end of a rather easy battle, his mate warps in in a bomber
*crusier explodes, I lock and fire on the bomber
Excatly 9 seconds later, there is a nice bang from the bomber. Yes, I checked the logs. 9 seconds.

1/ Wrong forum
2/ It's not the DPS that a stealth bomber needs. It's a rethink of it's role. Lets face it, frigate popping isn't exactly a decisive or impressive role, and there's many other ships that can do it.

Edited by: Ranger 1 on 01/05/2007 14:06:40 Yet another thread by people who have no idea how to effectively use a stealth bomber.
My alt has over 100 kill in a stealth bomber, and I have lost, ummm, 2 or 3. Those kills consist of everything from Pods to Carriers, and in situations from fleet ops to solo kills. And frankly, I don't get to fly that particular alt all that often.
Quit looking at every ship as if it needs to be able to take on everything solo all the time, most ships can't and weren't intended to. Stealth bombers make very effective snipers, support vessels, and really excel as scout (No, covert ops cloak ability is not needed at all).
You just have to know what you are doing.
I certainly won't argue against them being boosted, but not for the incorrect reasons you give above.

I don't think the stealth bombers need more DPS or alpha strike. If they keep focused on their role(destroy frigates or haulers), they have all the dps that is needed(i know there are better plans for them in the future, but for now, frigates it is). The only problem I see with them right now is that the hidden bonus on the cruise missile explosion radius doesn't cover explosion speed too. Most frigates i see today on PVP are mostly invulnerable to missiles due to MWD utilization. I understand why this works for normal missile ships, but the stealth bomber should have some advantage here too. On a 1 on 1 SB against ceptor, it's about impossible to pop the ceptor on the first volley. if the ceptor pilot has a brain, he will MWD, orbit around 15km away, scramble and kill the sitting duck bomber, which cannot recloak since ceptors are fast to lock, and cannot hurt the ceptor with the second, nor third volley due to the velocity factor.

I like my stealth bomber, the problem is that cloaked recons can do everything that Stealth bombers can AND they can warp while cloaked. Plus due to the EW bonus its usually safer as well.

Any ship can function ( more or less) and deal damage with a cloak, stealth bombers need something unique.
This would be incorrect.
1: Stealth Bombers can lock much more quickly after uncloaking than a Recon can. 2: Stealth Bombers can re-cloak much more quickly than Recons can. 3: Stealth Bombers effectively strike at twice the range of a Recon. 4: Stealth Bombers get a nice speed increase while cloaked making them by far one of the most effective scouts and warp to point ships in the game.

stealth bombers should be able to warp cloaked imo. and maybe a new class of stealth bomber should be made that can use torps but i dont think a stealth bomber is supposed to fly solo anyway a gang of them put out a lot off dps but i agree they need to be a bit tougher.

The first thing they need is a major increase to missle velocity, something in the area of a 15k to 20k per second speed would be good.this would increase its alpha strike nicely and also allow for long range damage. just my thoughts
