I had this really dumb and expensive incident this morning.
I was mining when Oupla entered my belt. He started heading for my can and I thought.... *sigh* here comes an ore thief. He popped my can and his name started flashing red. I saw he was flying some kind of frigate and...
... DUMB ME. I locked him and sent my drones on him... which of course didn't do ****. So he locks me, convo's me and demands 4 mil. I pay him the 4 mil and then he says "ok now die" and blows up my covetor.
it hurt, both my feelings and especially my savings. But hey it was fair, I was being an ass. He tricked me and got a clean kill.
But I don't really feel like letting this go just yet.
Quite simply, I want to know what i can do to get this guy podded himself? He probably lives by hunting empire belts so I can't just go at him. There must be a way. Any shared experiences or suggestions?

Get a corp mate or two to get aligned to the belt in a safespot. Start mining again, but this time fit a warp scrambler and tank your barge as good as you can. When he steals the can, engage him and tell your corp mates to warp in. You will have him trapped and your mates whill pop him.
Cloaked recons or stealth bombers are also a good solution :-)

Some of our mining teams have had similar issues with low-risk frigate thieves. We've only found 2 reliable ways to deal with them.
1. Having a corpmate in your gang handy, so that when your can gets flipped they can leap in and shoot the scumbag (flagged to the corp). Not sure if non-corp gang members will suffice, of course you could always get someone you trust in the system to drop a can for you so they get the kill rights. You might be suprised how many people would be happy to oblige.
2. Have a combat ship docked in the same system, if the thief is flagged, go change ships and hunt them down. Its rare for them to walk away from a free lunch, so likelyhood is they'll return and you'll have 15 minutes to find them and blow them to bits.

Oupla is in a player corp that apparently specializes in ore theft.
When I see him, he's always alone. So it might be possible to pop him just for fun. ------------------

Gratz to oopla, teaching miners important lessons is a worthwhile task in EvE, and getting the sap to pay for the lesson is a very important part of the master class you were teaching.
Its a shame some people feel the need to attend 'after school' lessons to try and get the teacher punished after he's done such a great job.
Shame on you Con, well done oopla

I'm sure Oupla would love to get popped, just to learn the lesson of not flying alone. ------------------

If it was a member of my corp. (which he may be as I certainly can not remember all of my members names) IĈd see to it he was harshly reprimanded. (banned most likelyàor perhaps a complete loss of privileges with in corp) Not honoring a ransom is a bad idea in general. About me! Darkness Inc. Recruitment! |

I make 80 million isk in a couple of hours of hauling and trading between Empire and low sec and 0.0.
That's a lot more isk than your 7 mil. ------------------

First off I was talkin about him and his 7 mil :P
Second I can and do make alot more and have PLENTY saved up and you know what, I STILL stick around to empire some times and switch cans and **** people off and you know why?...
Because its a thousand times more fun than haulin carp around

When I blow people up, it's usually in low sec. And I don't bother with their can if there is one.
I'm making the isk to pay for my habit. I leave the wreck, the loot, and the can.
All I want is the fight. ------------------

Pay for your habit? meh I see that as being pointless if you make a few bil and then go playing in low sec just for a fight, just cause its so low risk. You arent playing for their wreck you make your cash elsewhere and the fight really has no relevence at all =/
When I made my first bill I transferred it to an alt and MADE myself poor again, the whole point is the risk of PvP if you dont care weather you lose your ship or not wtf is the point. I sill loot wrecks because I pirate to survive I LIKE barely scrapin by as it makes it more interesting.
Course yeah I admit if I badly want a new toy thats far out of my pirate life style's budget Im tempted transfer the cash
But I DONT transfer to cover losses, I MAKE it back or risk more loss.
So soon as you lose your ship or leave low sec its back to trading, you just PvP on the sideline not LIVE PvP, theres a big difference.
make an alt and force him to fend for himself for awhile, you'll see the point (and joy) of robbing a can to make a "measly" 7 mil, the ectasy of a well gone ransom, or a sweet t2 wreck :insert cool signature here: |

I have about 15 billion isk, and I don't care if I lose the ship.
You may note that I also go out to 0.0 to kill.
It's only for the kill - never for the loot. It's only for the fight.
Nowadays, when I haul and trade, it's specifically through areas I know I might be attacked - because it isn't fun any other way.
Hunting people is what I like doing most in the game - the next best thing is being the hunted. ------------------

wtf do you mean? how is it a risk, you said yourself you dont care if you lose your ship, dosent even matter if you pop him if you dont take his loot. Its just all for the fight which is fair nuff if thats what you want, but you might aswell be fighting in a tournament for that kind of PvP

You have ALTs, right? Harrass him. Follow him and his ALT around in loot-fitted frigates you've built and just swarm them. Attack the industrials. Take the profit out of the endevour. Plus it's a welcome change from mining.
After a while you'll start hanging out in the pirate forum thinking about Yaargh...

If he's in a player corp, you might want to contact his CEO about the dishonored ransom. Even though they're an Ore Thief corp. they might have a policy of honoring ransom.

We don't have a policy of honouring ransoms unfortunately. Personally, I do, but many in the corp don't and that's fine. Racketeers was setup for individuals to have fun playing Eve and not treat it as a second job. Our corp is just a niche in the market.
Currently there are corps that trade, mine, bounty hunt, act as mercs, low sec pirate, operate in 0.0 and we wanted to offer an alternative, an ore theft corp.
There are thief style characters in most mmorpgs so why not fufil that role on eve?
We have a lot of fun and we do lose heavily to big corps and alliances deccing us and owning us, but we take this as a compliment, it shows that we are playing our role in Eve effectively.
The fact of the matter is, that the author of the original post was so incensed by the actions of a Racketeer, he forgot the real world and was so immersed in this beautiful game that he felt the need for revenge. Not many mmorpgs can evoke these kind of emotions, and if it wasn't for Racketeers stealing your cans, you could merrily watch Eastendeers whilst AFK mining, something you could do on an offline game like X3.
Racketeers take the boredom out of mining. We get you figuring out ways to defend your mining ops.
I think we add an extra dimension to the game, the number of wardecs we get certainly suggests this.
Eve is just a game and it's all about fun, it's nothing personal and we are just living out a fantasy on a computer game.
If there's a Racketeer in local you best keep a close eye on those jetcans...

Hi Lav, The fact is Conspectus has not payed the ransom: 10M. He tried to get more time so his buddies can gank me. Too bad for him.
Partial ransom = destruction Full ransom ON TIME = free
Clear? Keep this in mind carebears!
