The correct answer is in fact your PC, although I doubt there are PS3 emulators yet.
The PS3 is a console, the fact that they have bogged it down with other crap which increases its price is a Bad Thing. Hopefully it will prove to be a good console despite it.

where are you getting that information from?
That info's legit. But Wal-Mart's role in this is that they have ordered HDDVD players from china, and are going to make HD DVD players cost 150-300 dollars, which is way more affordable than HDDVD's current price of 600+.
Please don't discount Wal-Mart's role in the retail industry. Video games have been 'censored' so they'd be able to make Wal-Mart's shelves.

Of course it is. Wal-Mart is the most important corporation in the world when it comes to retail sales.
The vast majority of the "sales" you're referring to are Casino Royale being bundled with the PS3. This was done in order to fake higher sales numbers.

no one is discounting or downplaying Wal-Marts role in the retail industry. i think you meant $600 blu-ray players? Pioneer is releasing a blu-ray drive in june for $300. the casino royale disc sales youre blabbering about dark were exclusive of ps3 bundles. The figures come from retailers. There are half a dozen sites that track the sales of each format....on a daily basis.. from retailers such as amazon.com. while the figures are cyclical, blu-ray has been in the lead. these figures have nothing to do with discs shipped or p33 bundles. the figures are discs sold.
in the end.. what does it really matter anyways? sales figures are still lightyears behind regular dvd sales. i predict the same fate as laserdisc for both formats.

Walmart haven't ordered anything yet. They are simply getting quotes for the manufacture of 2 million HD-DVD players from the companies in china. The exact quote from walmart about all this was that they would wait for the consumer to decide which format wins and then enter the market Q4 this year. I wouldn't be surprised if they are also looking for companies to make cheap BR players.
The only way for walmart to have an major effect would be to exclusively back one format. Given walmart is 40% of the dvd indusrty in the USA I don't think they will be willing to exclusively back either of the formats as this would cut in to their profits (HD-DVD covers less than 30% of DVDs, BR about 90%).

The fact that 7 of the 8 biggest hollywood companies have said they support bluray over HD-DVD, as well as the majority of the ****o industry will make it pretty much impossible for HD-DVD to get anyways.

I think PS3 looks good, though at the price its at now just isnt worth buying over the other consoles.
When God of War 3 comes out for it though, then I think I will have to give in :)

Now now, children. fact is we don't know who'll win the format war, yet.
About the only similar format war in recent years was the VHS / Betamax, and one incident does not count as adequate precedent. While it's true that Betamax started on top and then sank, the same is not necessarily true of this- the similarities are limited at best.
Not that I particularly care, myself. On my TV (and with my eye sight) I'd struggle to tell the difference between VHS and DVD, let alone a DVD and a "super DVD". There comes a point when audio visual quality reaches a peak, and people just don't want to pay for yet another bit of equipment for negligible improvement.
I hope they both fail miserably. Or at the very least, that this might be the last "next generation" for a little while. In any case, I plan on skipping this generation entirely and hanging on for the next one

and the most ridiculous thing about this "format war" (if you wanna call it the, its more of a scuffle.) is the ability exists to have one format on 1 side, the other on the other side. forgotten what the terminology is. personally, i think the format will end up like sacd & dvd-audio. im referring to movies. as a storage medium, either one is bad ass. just need to get those prices to drop. ~$10 each blank blu-ray disc.
