So i have been doing some missions and im going over to heavy drones , but then i see many ppl use sentry drones, how does theese lil buggers work, just as ordinary "select and attack" drones, or is it somthing u donr rly control.. they seem to do more dmg then heavy drones.

afaik you anchor them, or in any case they're static in space. But I only know this from the forums, I am some weeks away from using them.
I do have some original blueprints for them to sell however, if you're rich and want to make a good offer --

You launch them just like regular drones. You control them just like regular drones. They just cannot move and sit still in space. You have to fly back to them to scoop them to your drone bay.

He is correct, its usually best to not move after deploying them since they don't fly to you. I usually grab aggro with my Dominix, then deploy sentry drones.

Sentries do double the damage but take twice as long to fire and are immobile. However they don't have to travel but they don't have a much better t2 equivalent like heavies do.
So you can often insta pop NPC's up to destroyers, fairly quickly kill cruisers and BS at range and then let your heavies loose on the stuff that gets close. you will also need the drone link augmentor mod in high to increase drone control range take advantage of the wardens and bouncers. gardes do the most damage and are good for close in stuff. persoanlly to make sentries really shine you also need to fit the omnidirectional tracking link in mids too.
then all you do is deploy the sentrys as for any drones (whilst sitting still) and blast away at up to 100km (inc. skills trained)

With equivalent skills, sentries do more DPS than T1 heavies. Additionally, they don't have horrible travel time to take into account, so there are ups and downs to both.
I use sentries from max range to about 25-35km away, then I scoop them and pop mobile drones to take care of whatever is left. It's like instantly being able to swap your ship from rails to blasters, and back again for the next spawn. ----------------

Sentrys and heavys have different spaces where they work best.
When youre in a mission and the rats are around you ( 25 km .. ) heavys are great.
When youre in a mission and the rats are 40+ km away ( best when theyre not aggro at that moment ) sentrys shine like never before. Launch them and kill the frigs and cruisers until they reach you then change to heavys .. .
With a Dom and some 350th you can kill sometimes all rats without turning your AR on.
I tried sentrys for short range ( gardes ) but they were not very effective.
So I alway use sentrys for long range and heavys ( meds small ) for short range.
When my ogre II are face to face to their enemies theyre great and no sentry can hold damage against them, but in the time these slow buggers need to reach a ship at 70 km the Sentrys have already killed nearly a dozen frigs / cruiser. At that distance it goes like deploy .. and pop the frig .. targeting is the slowest part then.

Sentries are great for:
*Shooting Pos where heavy drones cant get through the shield
*Camping gates and stations where you are static
*Lowsec work where you can scoop them as soon as they take fire, rather than lose heavys when you recall them.
I find their tracking isn't all too good though vs smaller targets. I was playing on SiSi with an alt and an orbiting cruiser at ~15km was dodging the majority of their firepower. ---

i mainly use sentries to pop the frigs from 50+km then a few cruisers before things get close 25-km drag them back and launch the heavies. just got t2 heabies too, so my dmg is on the up:)

Damage: T2 Heavy > Sentry > T1 Heavy.
Sentry drones being stationary have a few real advantages. They track poorly but this doesn't matter if stuff is flying directly to you. When they take aggro they can be scooped and redeployed. And they're cute.
However, against the 't2' npcs they struggle to do enough damage imo - Ogre II's will kill anything, and Berserker II's will kill Angels even better. I pack Gardes for lazy cruiser killing or Bouncer Is for structures - almost nothing rips through structures like an explosive sentry drone.
Pick the right drone for the job - and get drone nav V so your drones get a move on
Usually, Goblin II, Hammer II, Bouncer/Garde I, Berserker/Ogre II is a good deal.
Otherwise, you could try 4 sentries and a SW-900 webber drone. This ties down a lot of stuff just well enough to change those misses to hits.

Completely wrong.
Heavy drones have better DPS than sentries.
The reason is simple - sentries have awful tracking.
Sentries are good for only two things, which is ganks and POS shooting. Using them in other situations is rather silly.

Heavy drones have massively better DPS than sentries.
Perhaps you should read the entire sentence before posting? I put that in the quote in case you have trouble finding it.

You're wrong in both cases. Ogre IIs hit harder, and twice as often, as Garde Is.
How you get "better damage" from that is beyond me, considering sentry drones seem to barely be able to hit a moving battleship, let alone anything smaller.

Ok, I will make this easier to understand :)
Firstly, we are talking about T1 drones, since T2 sentries don't exist yet.
Secondly, T1 sentries and T1 heavies have approximately the same dps (biased towards sentries).
Thirdly, the sentence 'Sentries do double the damage but take twice as long to fire [than heavy drones]', if you read it carefully, actually means that they do roughly equivilent dps.
Fourthly, we are talking about damage, not tracking. The ability to hit something moving is never a feature of damage calculations on these forums. If we factor tracking in on a target moving at a decent speed perpendicular to your own course then the balance tilts back in favour of T1 heavies.
Fifthly, as has already been pointed out, sentries can spend all the time heavies take to get to a target, shooting at it.
Therefore we can conclude that in an 'ideal' situation, ie target sitting still, sentry drones will outdamage heavies.

I use wardens against guristas and along with rails, nothing really gets close enough that u need to pop out your heavies. Their main source of food are BC / BS targets. Frigates and cruisers become hard to hit when close so take those out first as aggro.
Sentries do in fact deal more damage than t1 heavies however the difference is slight, but if you're 30km away with no drone nav upgrades, sentries are your best bet. Tracking is also not an issue since sentries are meant to take our BS rats and structures... using them against small targets is ... idiotic. Out with the 'Art of War' and in with 'War for Dummies'. |

- sentries can be scooped immediately if you didn't move since deploying them, so they will live longer than Heavy drones chasing a target
- sentries have better alpha strike
- you can deploy sentries in funny patterns (e.g. to limit the potential movements of a ship trying to outrun their tracking)
- they need T2 equivalents (CCP!)

Sentry drones (specifically bouncers) will make your gang AC maelstrom the SECKS! Drones + Barrage from 50km, mmmmmh.
