How and when?
for a reason of not having anything else important to train I'm training for deep core mining skill. How will it work when it will be relased?

Umm... its already out there. You just need to find the right type of ore, called Mercoxit. You can find it in 0,0 space.

There's some in the Fix region. Just look out for like groups of 2 Apocs and 20 Mallers. They are mean. ---------------------------------------

Still confused here...
Is there ANY truth to the rumour that you can get small amounts of the new mineral from "common" ore....like scordite??

No. That was the original plan, which CCP should have stuck to, though.
I think the way it is now is a mistake. ------------- My salsa makes all the pretty girls want to dance and take off their underpants. I <3 ( . Y . ) |

Not from common, but you can get it from dark ochre and up. Popular deviant. |

DCM is only viable if you're part of a large corp. If you're a freelancer or in a small mining corp - forget it. Its not worth the hassle atm especially when no one knows how much he stuff will eventually sell for.
1. You need to find a Mercoxit roid. The only ones I know of are a LONG way from any refineries.
2. You can only mine a little bit at a time before the asteroid explodes causing upto 150 points/min damage to any ship in its vicinity. Training the skill up does little to improve the odds of an explosion from my experience.
3. You cannot mine to a jettisoned canister because of 2.
4. NPC pirates have a habit of spawning right on top of you while you're mining the stuff. There is a way of mining in complete safety but I'm not going to mention it as its an exploit and CCP are aware of it (fix in progress?).
5. Mercoxit has a volume of 40 therefore you can only transport a relativly small amout at a time in your slow-as-**** kill-me-quick Indy.
I've succesfully mined Mercoxit but the logistics and hassle involved is not worth it atm. When we finally discover just how valuable the Morphite mineral is - then it may be worth trying again.
CCP originally gave the impression DCM would be available to all. You were supposed to be able to mine any type of roid with the new DCM laser but it seems they changed it at the last moment and introduced the Mercoxit roid. By doing that, they screwed over the smaller mining corps and handed another golden nest egg to the mega corps and gate camping pirates of this game.
CCP don't want small corps in EVE. One day we'll all belong to the same gigantic mega corp. Won't that be fun?

Yeah it will be fun..
Itl be easyer to tell who to pod and who not to!
Originally by: cashman It's time for Eris to get a clue. CCP should make a statement about this.
It's the exact same things as what Zombie did, you may not attack in "safe-areas" (empire/within sentry range) without loosing your ship.

Edited by: Riddari on 03/01/2004 15:38:27 Well the deal is that you point your DCM laser at higher ores (dark ochre and better) and hump on it for a while (taking breaks because of EM dmg from the roid) until finally a merxocite roid popps out. You then pull out your miner 2 and eat that roid.
HOWEVER we have gotten some amount of mercoxite mineral morphite from old fashioned refining. Occasionally we refine dark ochre or above and from the refine we get the usual minerals and then a couple of units of the new mineral.

"2. You can only mine a little bit at a time before the asteroid explodes causing upto 150 points/min damage to any ship in its vicinity. Training the skill up does little to improve the odds of an explosion from my experience."
The skill reduces damage you receive from the cloud if i remember right, not the likeliness of the explosion.
The damage happens every 30 seconds, btw.

how is mining in a hidden belt an exploit?

Because you take advantage of a flaw in the game, i.e. exploit... It's not meant to be hidden roids without NPCs... But I doubt that CCP will ever ban anyone for mining in hidden belts
Dunno if he's thinking of that though.
Oh, and BTW, you CAN mine mercoxite into a jettisoned can. You just need to jettison it outside the area where the cloud appears... We in the corp I'm in started mining mercoxite the first day after the patch. Went just fine.

LOL, well. Let me put it like this.
1. I learned about the exploit (and I can't believe none on chaos realized it before the patch).
2. I've been offline for about 2 weeks (away from home), so I don't know if it's fixed.
3. If you check the pic in my signature, which is posted like 19 hours after Castor was released (prime-time to play where I live), you see me as part of a mining team. I'm fitting a Large C5-L, 3 shield boost amplifiers and EM + thermal hardeners in my medslots, and the low slots are 4 cap relays + 1 magnetic Vortex damage mod. The pic is taken about 15 jumps away from a station.
If anyone believe I would go 15 jumps away from a station, in a battleship equipped to be able to withstand a HUGE ammount of damage, instead of fitting some MWD and/or AB in my medslots, and then use some exploit to avoid the NPCs, that person really needs an intelligence implant.
4. When I left home, about 4-5 days after Castor, I logged off in midspace in a system where we had been mining (about 7-8 jumps from a station), and I'm still using that setup.
