I've had the pleasure of seeing 3 events. 2 of them at random in caldari space at complete random. One the Kalaakiota incident, and once I bought some biomass from a businessman that some amarran was convinced had remains of his ancestry in them, and have no idea what to do with this aging biomass but eat it if I can. And I was a bit involved with some minmatar freaks in the bleak lands.
Only the last one actually felt like purposeful RP. People being dumb in local all through events is pretty hard to deal with. I also believe everyone in eve is always RPing to a degree, and that's about as much of it as I do normally.

RDEX has already participated in at least 3 events. they were all very fun to be part of. my only regret is that the mind clash champion escaped
now, that being said, so much more could be done! once, we were 'escorting' a serpentis drug smuggler through high sec space. you'd think that the gallente authority would do something about 2 roaming vigilant in their backyard no? from personal experience in the events that we participated in, the events seem to be one of two things: escort or kill.... surely more can be done.
another 'problem' that i see is that there is not many ways to find those events. 2 of them we found in the same system (our empire 'home' so to speak), i guess the events could be spread a bit more. across different systems and across different time zone as well.
bottom line is: whenever someone from our corp sees the blue text in local, you'd be amazed at how fast everybody undocks to participate

Perhaps. How about Rescue, Repair, Assist, smuggle, Transpoport, Espionage, Build ect.
There are some neet modules and ships available to do these things. Maybe they could be utilized. :-)

well, in all fairness, they already (kinda) do. one of our ex-corpmate was asked at some point to lend his arazu to an aurora character - which he did - to transport an antidote (IIRC).
maybe a bit of pro-activeness? my corp specializes in covert operations (bombers, covert ops or force recon). i think it would be very cool if (for the sake of the example) an aurora character would contact us to ask him to watch this location for him or something to that effect...

yeah, definately agree. but the majority of players are either EU of US TZ, so can't really blame them... but it would be appreciated if events didn't happen at 6-7 AM for me...

So what's wrong with foam swords?
Be aware that even in that environment there was a arms war. I'm proud to say that I introduced the carbon-fiber center-pole (as opposed to PVC pipe) along with the foam (boggie-board) shield.

Oh well, I like to roleplay, yet, or maybe therefore, I have to disagree a bit. Everybody plays - yes that's what I can agree with. But does everybody roleplay? Gee, do we roleplay in reallife? Perhaps, perhaps not, some of us, most of us, definitely not none of us. But anyway, in essence, we 'play' ourselves. Roleplaying is more about playing someone else. That's not what many players in EVE do. They have an avatar, but it's meaningless. They don't play 'him' or 'her', they play themselves and have a nice, or uggly, picture to boot (more and more uggly ones lately..).
That and the lack of racial differences, also the fact that most players pilot the fotm ships, kills a lot of immersion and incentive to roleplay, at least for me.
Good luck to Aurora, but it's going to be a hard job compensating all this with events.
That said, I love events. Give us more of them. Still haven't had the opportunity to participat in one. Hopefully that'll change.
Shamis Orzoz, believe it or not, there are NPCs in this game. Those NPCs have a live, too. So things might happen that aren't player-initiated. Without 'living' NPCs, EVE would be empty and lifeless. 25k players aren't sufficient to populate 5000 star systems. EVE can never be completely player-driven and populated. Without any NPCs. It's too big for that.
As far as "unfair advantage at such events" goes - events shouldn't give any advantages whatsoever. That's the only way to make them fun and to get rid of the sleeky crowd.

Apologies for necro, but felt I needed to add this in in light of recent events.
It seems that whole storylines for events, the so called "Arcs" are written in advance and in considerable detail.
Many players expect that their actions affect the stories, and that is part of the motivation for attending events. However, sometimes stuff just doesn't go according to script.
I'd suggest that AURORA avoid writing whole scripts in advance and instead have a general idea for where they want to end up, with players making the in between. Write only the next event and have branching paths dependant on current event outcome, some of which may never get used.
