We need capital sized ships to mine in. Give us 3 types that get bigger and some attributes with them. PLs give me ideas on what they should look like. Also the should be able to refine ore and have huge cargo bay with 4-8 strip miner slots

I'm all for a mobile refining ship but i dont think it should get strip miners.
Instead i think it should get a huge bonus to tractor range so that it can suck up and refine the ore other barges are mining anywhere in the entire belt. Haulers could then come and move the refined minerals back to a station.
Since belts are going to move towards hidden exploration locations in the future we realy do need a Mobile refining location that we can use to mine belts far from a POS or station.
I think giving one strips would just mean you can park one there and afk mine forever, I think a mobile refining station would be more than adequite. Perhaps the ship could also Repair other ships as if it were docked at a station and serve as a factory to produce anything an ammo or drone array could produce.

The devs are talking about a ore capital ship. However its not going to be a mining ship. At the moment I do not think that the dev's will consider intraducing a ship that mines faster then a tech 2 hulk. If you could have one with 8 strip miners it will strip a belt on its own in about an hour (or less for busy systems). If it also had a huge cargo bay and refinery then you would never need to miner as part of a team.
Being able to mine massive amounts of mineral would have two effect, prices would go down and there would be no belts left as one account can strip a system within a day.

have to agree with the last post...a team of two or three miners and a hauler or two can empty a belt in a day....a huge mining/refining ship could do it in hours. While i like the sound of the iskies flowing into my wallet from that, it's a bad idea overall. A refining ship is a good idea to me, supported by miners and combat guys...maybe make it so they can't fly in 0.6 or above or something like that to keep the empire belts from being flooded with these guys.

An idea for the carebears, Take a carrier strip it down(ie. no drone bonus's)give it a refine ore and a healthy tractor bonus.
Also give it 4 high slots but only 2 of them for a high end mining lazers. As for mid and low slots i'll let ya fight over that. Their you have a good capital mining type ship.

No, the mobile refinery with rapid jetcan gathering capabilities and some kind of belt rat aggro management power would be the best solution. Maybe then people would mine in places that don't have stations or outposts in them.

Such a target would be the first thing any NPC pirate/pirate/suicider/rival corp would go after if they came across it so the thing needs to be able to defend itself. Perhaps it could go into a siege mode of sorts and can only be 16km from any asteroids (not counting containers as that would really start to cause problems) and allow it to have 4 high slots for turrets, sence it would be out of range of the asteroids it would be able to defend itself somewhat while still performing its function. Im also of the opinion that it should have a drone bay equally for defense though if someone really wanted to give it 5 miner drones that up to them (though that would really be pointless).

I think a Refinining Factory Ship would be a great Idea. It would basically be a Large frighter with a Refining Capability, able to operate a trade system with Miners for ore as though in station, it would not have any Mining capability of it's own, except for a Medium Drone bay that can be loaded with Miners or Fighters at the Pilots discretion.
It would be part of the ORE Faction as a capital ship.

I'm going to drop in my normal cap mining 2 cents
I'd like to see 3 new ships
1: a capital mobile refinery that needs to be anchored to run the refinery 2: a cyno freighter that can dock at POS's 3: a fleet command ship that gives bonuses to mining gang links
none of these ships should be able to run strips, have bonuses to personal mining yield or require training of mining barge 5, they are for group operations, not solo operations and they are for characters specialized in mining support disciplines not mining it's self, specifically
1: refining 2: indy 3: command

Hmm..? I like the idea of a capital refinery. However, giving it any kind of mining capability instantly makes it self-sufficient, which could be a bad thing.
While this new ship would undoubtedly be the primary target if player pirates showed up, I think giving it offensive abilities would also be a mistake. How about giving it the ability to project a large force field that would protect other ships in a gang. Maybe the force field could protect against damage types such as EM, kinetic, etc.., or the field prevents other ships from getting too close (repulser field). This field would be extremely capacitor intensive, but allow this ship enough time to protect itself and other ships in a gang long enough for everyone to warp out, then it can warp out itself.
Maybe have the ability to use ECM. Let this new ship disrupt targeting systems. The down side could be that it also prevent gang members from targeting asteroids while in use, but if the gang is under attack from player pirates and trying to get away, this isn't really a bad thing.
If a damage force field is used (EM, Kinetic, etc.), then there would need to be 4 new modules (for each type) and only bit able to fit on this new ship. One of the new ships bonuses (per trained level), could increase the sphere size by 5km per level.
If a repulser field is used (ships that are not in the gang can't penetrate it), then it, too, will require a new mod only usable by this ship. The only problem with this suggestion is the obvious abuse of this method by players wanting to use it to protect combat vessels during PvP engagements. Maybe have the repulser only protect mining ships and haulers.
I like the bonus to tractor beams. Maybe have a ship bonus that increases tractor beam range by 20% per level trained. Another possible bonus could be a 5% mining increase (per level trained) to all gang members.
I think this new ship should offer at least one strong helpful benefit (refining?) and at least one strong gang defense benefit (force fields, ECM, etc.).

I also think that ORE needs to diversify it's ships a bit... And, while a refining ship would be great, there are other areas where mining can be improved, at least on a team level. I wrote up a new class of ships a couple months ago, I think they have some potential, and a new path for carebears to go in.
