On this day, 4 years ago, EVE Online was released and the masses rejoiced because a new age of MMOG gaming and enlightenment was upon them - "The Age of EVE".
To commemorate this blessed event we would like you all, players, developers and volunteers alike, to post your most memorable event in the world of EVE. A lot has happened during these 4 years and we would like to celebrate this with a trip down memory lane.

I would say the day i attacked the goonies when they were new, and got dozens of kills in my harpy while taking no losses. It was my first fleet op ever, and i have never left 0.0 ever since. =)

I remember mining Omber all night in an Imicus back in the summer of '03 so I could afford a Thorax. Then using that Thorax to help my mate buy a Dominix. We both still play together, although we live three timezones apart and have never met in RL.
The only thing that tops that was being accepted into Aurora last summer and making some kickass events. When I see posts from players in Intergalactic Summit discussing whats been going on and whats happening, it makes it all worthwhile that you know your efforts have made an impact on players.
Here's to another four (and more) years \o/

Oh my. Sadly, four years ago I had not yet heard of the goodness that is EVE.
Not long after leaving another game I remember logging into EVE and just hanging outside a station for a while marveling. I didn't want to dock, it was like a work of art!
EVE has brought me back to the old school days of things like ELITE, Wing Commander and all the amazing games I used to play, that got my heart beating fast, made me stay up late (it's 4:20 AM right now, lol) and really is one of the best games I've ever played.
Props to CCP, the dev team and all the people who made and continue to make EVE what it is- hands down, the best SF MMO game on the planet. Happy birthday!

Happy birthday everybody.
Most memorable event: ramboing through the mara - passari gate in a condor and surviving. Ok there was one guy hardly a camp but still, never had the heart pounding like that in a video game before. _______________ |

What?! Four years already? I've only been here ten months!
I guess my most memorable moment ever was fragging a pie-rat Brutix with my newblol Heavy Missile Ferox, with Battlecruiser I skill. My CEO spanked me hard after finding out about that.

Best thing in EVE are all the friends i made here and have already met in RL. And of course getting killed in my 1st shiny Merlin back in 2004. I was very upset and loved it at the same time. This is what EVE is. And of cource becoming a member of ISD and helping to make EVE a bit better everyday.

To answer the original post, my most memorable moment so far in EVE was being in an Imicus in .3 space doing some exploration. There was a pirate (or 10, lol) in the system, and I had to be extremely careful not to get found.
I was both relieved and disappointed to get "No scan signatures detected" because it meant that I could leave, but I was kind of enjoying the adrenaline of knowing it was me vs everyone in local in cat and mouse.
No other game has ever given me that shot of heart-pounding, cold-sweat adrenaline, and that's why I love this game.

There are 2 moments of EVE I remember most...
First was in the beta days, when I was flying around my frig in one of the lower sec system, and was convoed by one of the system dwellers, of corporation who "claimed" that system. He said "Leave or be destroyed..." I replied "Can I join you guys?". People from that corp were amazing, it no longer exists, but I will always remember them and those magic times. Those were the best memories I have from playing EVE. The pure chaos and no Concord
Second is when I joined ISD, cheesy I know but its true. I doubt I would be still playing the game if I haven't joined them. Getting to know them all is a great thing. Sometimes weird, but still great

I don't think I have a particular best moment. There were lots of great moments, though. Being a total beginner and slowly working your way up to a cruiser class ship and finally flying it, that was a great moment. Being shot and podded for the very first time, which started me on pvp was a great moment.
The firsts are always the bests.

When EVE launched, I was the community manager. I had been on a plane all night and arrived at the office just as the servers were coming up for the first time that morning. Everyone crowded into the small conference room at Klappurstig and watched the projector screen as someone (I think it was ReyRey) was playing. It was like Christmas morning when you're a kid, all of that anxious excitement and lots of nervous giggling.
Things seemed to be going really well, but there was this odd combination of holding your breath longer than you meant to and then almost hyperventilating because you were breathing too fast. I've been through game launches since then that weren't that intense. Maybe it was that way for me with EVE since it was the first time for a lot of us.
We knew it was going to all be okay when these words from one of the players appeared in the chat channel:
Quote: I hope they take the servers down sometime today so I can get a shower.
People were so excited, they were foregoing food, rest and common hygiene practices because they didn't want to miss a minute in our brave new world. It was awesome.
Of course, it wasn't all roses and sunshine. We've had our share of wonkiness and drama. It's hard not to take it to heart sometimes and we are genuinely affected to some degree when a player is unhappy about something. Still, the way they express that unhappiness can be a little overboard and, unintentionally, they make us chuckle when they send us notes like this one. It has to be my favorite of all the nastygrams I've ever seen come through the petition system:
Quote: If Iceland had trees, I would tell you to go hang yourself.
I may have been on holiday at another game company for a couple of years, as Oveur puts it, but my heart was always here at home with EVE, with my teammates and our fantabulous community. Words can't express how happy I am to be back and to be able to share days like today with all of you.
CCP made a game. Our players made it a real world. We appreciate everyone who's ever logged in because that's what has made EVE become all that it is.
Takk takk!

Edited by: Zadeus on 05/05/2007 11:43:35 Most memorable event; has to be in my noob days, was in my new Cyclone, which I mined omber continuously for weeks to get Spur of the moment decision to stop off in a 0.4 and pick up a skillbook. Bout to undock, and saw there was a red flasher in local... thought, to hell with it and undocked anyway... Warped to stargate at good ol' 15km, and there he was in a Scorpion, ganking noobs with his smartie... As luck would have it, I had a prototype cloaker fitted, so hit it immediately... then followed a very slow trip to the stargate, taking a couple of hits from smartbomb along the way (no uncloak though )... plenty of time to see the pirate kill a couple of newbies, boom on the ship, then boom on the pod Pirate then warped off after the sentry guns started to hurt him, and I made my jump out of the system Those were the days
Happy birthday Eve!

Wow, 4 years. I've only known about the game for a little over a year, but from the second I heard about it I was hooked.
I don't have a single most memorable event, as the entire game has been a wonderful experience. I think it says a lot that this is the only MMOG I've stuck with for more than a couple weeks.
Happy birthday EVE Online.

Four years, two years older than my own daughter. :)
I have been with the game for two and a half year, joining just before EXODUS hit. It has been an incredible ride the entire time and I hope there will at least a few more good years still.
Most memorable event? Jumping my first ever megathron into Egghelende only 10 minutes after it came out of production only to find tiller and his crew camping and promptly blowing it away. This is easy - The very first time I entered 0.0 and got podded. I was crying in local like a little girls as they were destroying my Scorpion (which I though then was indestructible) and then I realized I wasn't breathing as my ship and pod got destroyed so I almost passed out on the keyboard!
I got so angry I was seriously considering logging on this character and transfer the bastards into Jovian space!
Since then I have enjoyed doing the same to many of you
So maybe I am still a bit upset about this - Doctor, I have some anger issues...

This thread is for celebrating EVE, not arguing about petty things, so stay on on topic or else..
I have some memorable moments, like just after gate pirates (NPCs) were added to low sec gates and I happened to be in low sec in an Imicus of all things. I had to survive the pirates at every gate, jump and then repair before doing it all over until I managed to get to high sec space.
It was always fun to do big convoys with my corp through camped gates, we jumped into a system with maybe 3-5 others in local, it took them seconds to jump out of our way.
It was less fun when I managed to travel low sec on autopilot and went for a bio break, came back to a pod of course, but the pirate was nice and told me she wouldn't pod me.

Wow, 4 years - that's so cool!
Hmm, memories eh ?
Well - I've still got the Scars and err *cough*stains*cough* from my ISD induction and Hazing. I'll never look at fedo's in the same light!
Hehe - actually I think managing to get to see the Solteur a couple of years ago in the Event ranks pretty high up there
Also, helping CCP test the new cluster in that massive event on Sisi was an amazing time too, I also helped out when the Dreadnought class was just released, IIRC there were 10 of us volunteers flying the dreadnoughts and I think about 2000 players came onto sisi to kill us!
I was in a Naglfar (vertical ships 4tw) and it took a good 20 battleships to take me down, and that was only after I'd ran out of fuel for siege mode!
I think they've been balanced a bit since then though
Well, it's all good memories from the Time I first got Podded to every time I get to help someone in a mission .... Here's to the next 4 years!

Happy Birthday EVE! Been an amazing ride so far.
I¦m probably going to get killed for telling this story. Can¦t remember precicely when this was, less than a year into the game.
So we had this big alliance war against corp X (some of you are probably going to figure out who, they managed to declare war on around 12 corps at the same time (and this was before alliances became available btw)) and these guys used every dirty trick in the book (and quite a few not in it aswell) to play the game and we higly suspected that one of them was to dupe stuff.
So one day in a system near Jita a hauler from corp X got shot down by someone and we hear it all over the alliance channel that the container that the hauler dropped was full of megacyte (The guy who shot the hauler did¦nt have any cargo to pick up the loot). So a good friend of mine in my corp realises that he has an alt in the next system that has a rifter fitted. So he logs out, and into the alt and gets moving as quickly as he can to the system where the hauler got shot. He¦s the first guy to the can, opens it and sees infront of him around 400k units of Megacyte (Now this is still very early in the game so this can was probably close to beeing the most valuable thing in the the whole EVE universe). Then he notices that there¦s a lot of people appearing in local, and he can see some haulers on the horizon approaching fast.
Suddenly he realises that the cargo on his rifter is rather limited and he makes a quick conclusion that, "Hey! If I can¦t take it, why should I let anyone else?". So he targets the can and pops it, then flyes back to the station, and instantly deletes the character (back when that was possible) to remove all connections with his main.
It was only then that he realised that he could have atleast filled his cargo with some of the Meg before he popped the can, and this was back in the days when money was money.
Anyways, he was shaking and so high on adrenalin for a week afterwards that it was almost impossible to understand a word he said on TS.
Shortly afterwards corp X got banned for duping stuff, so he pretty much did the right thing and removed ill gotten items from the game.

The moment i will never forget was when i got my first kill. At the time, we were just another industrial corp who had a war against a pirate corp. We took down a cruiser in just an inty and a destroyer. When the fight was over, my hands were shaking so bad, that i was forced to turn off "push to talk" on ts because i couldnt control the mouse anymore..
Ever since, the best thing that happened to me was the acceptance into Aurora. Being part of the family enhanced my EVE experience with 100% at least.

As in RL, my best times in EVE have been with other people - inordinately in a group where one or more persons are getting steadily more drunk and typing strange words, typically during a mining op. I wish I still had the chat logs. Sadly my mining days are far behind me, but the hilarity continues thanks to TS, Vent, etc
As for OOG - best was at the end of Fanfest #1 (long before E-ON came along). It had been a fairly disasterous evening (having to wait 2 hours for the beer taps to start flowing), but speaking with Reynir, Siggi and others late that night, there was a genuine passion for their game that I'd never before, or since, experienced in all my travels as a games hack. And unless the passing of time has embellished the memory, I even think a couple of tears were shed...
Thank you CCP. Happy birthday to EVE... and to all who sail in her. o7
And happy birthday to my main, too

I think the most memorable fight I've had was while in 0.0, I jumped with a few guys from my corp into a huge gang of frigs, cruisers and some BS. We were all in BS at the time and totally outnumbered like 3 to 1. It was an "Oh crap" moment but we came away with a bunch of killmails (6 or 7 bs I think) and didn't all die (I think we only lost 2)
Being given the opportunity to join ISD has to be one of my be one of my most memorable non pvp events. Now I get to test all the new spiffy stuff (as well as the very old stuff) and break it. I love finding some of those nasty bugs but I especially love seeing the exploits get fixed (I wont say which ones I found for fear of a lynch mob)

It's far too difficult to say what my favorite thing was in game, alot of events have gone well and had awesome player involvement, and some things on my main were about as good.
Still, overall, I'd say being at RL events, like Gencon and GDC, and meeting the players, was the best.
And hanging out with players talking about EVE is always fun, because I'm a giant EVE fan(atic) like that. Players are what drew me to EVE, and you're definitely going to make ithard for me to leave, if that day would ever actually come.

Originally by: Horad One of my most memorable moments was the mariage of two corpmates from my time in northern light.
Oh, geebus! That reminds me of the story about the first wedding in EVE. (And I'm laughing so hard right now just thinking about it that I can barely type.)
LeKjart, who was the lead designer at the time, had made a bet with me at our launch party. I was saying we would have players that wanted to get married within two weeks of launch and he poo-poo'd the idea. "EVE is a man's game! We won't have things like that!"
I was off by one week. It was three weeks later that I got an e-mail from two players (sadly, I can't remember their names) that wanted to have an in-game wedding. Cayman rushed to put these 'ceremonial rings" into different regions for each race. I got some pointers from Clover about Minmatar culture and made a shaman-type character to perform the ceremony, which I wrote.
The big day comes and there's quite a crowd gathered for the event. MajorGormur flies out with this big-ass ship to fire off some AOE missles and such since we didn't have any confetti and fireworks.
TomB, who was still in QA back then, flew a little too close to him, got blown up in his little frigate and all of a sudden in the chat channel where the ceremony dialogue is being broadcast, there are these warnings - "CONCORD is attacking MajorGormur!" - just spamming up the place. Gormur is trying to evade them, so they keep coming. I was about to die laughing, tears streaming down my face.
Classic!

Happy Birthday Eve! Here's to another exciting and fun-filled year!
I remember starting my character in 2004 where I quickly joined a small corporation and together we moved deep to 0.0 space. I was always considered crazy by those I knew for ninja mining in a battleship with a hauler in a safespot.
I did this all by my lonesome for a few months on end. This included solo-trips back to empire in a hauler filled to the brim with high-end minerals some 30 odd jumps in the waking hours of the morning (without a scout in most cases).
In addition to in-game, I'd have to say joining ISD and attending Fanfest 2006 have been some of my most memorable experiences out of game. Having the chance to explore a new country and at the same time meet so many people that make Eve and the community so great was one of the best experiences I have ever had.

My best moment was way back when in 03, I finally mined enough minerals to have my very first Megathron built. I waited the hours and hours it took to complete, assembled it, jumped into it and realized i couldnt fit anything on it. I had spent so much time training just to be able to sit in her that i forgot to get any combat skills :) So I had a useless battleship but i sure looked cool. :)

I have never turned a ship arouind so fast and ran away as I did that day.
A few time I have fought mo0 and I am pleased to say that I never lost a ship to them. ----------- Event Actor

4 years!! omg, what happened to 3 years? i mean, it was only, uh, hmm, wow, time flies huh :}
Not sure if this was my best moment or not, but it's certainly something i'll remember for a long time. I was in a player corp, not two/three weeks into the game, flying and trying to osprey mine in a 0.4, probably only there because i didn't know the dangers. Anyway, some other new guy comes into the belt the two of us are mining, my mate scarpers and i'm left there thinking, hmm, he's new too, my single assault launcher will see him off. Needless to say as he sat there warp scramming me, all i could do was try and navigate the roids blocking my path.
I assploded, but the next day when he tried the same thing, i heard reports in local of some rescue or something weird, only seconds later with me boosting my shields, these two huge ships entered the belt, a battlecruiser class warship accompanied by this awesome battleship, things i could only dream about flying, they absolutely decimated this pirate that was trying to kill me. It was the weirdest feeling seeing these massive ships (to me) appear just when i needed them and save the day :)
I later joined that corp and it set me up for the rest of my eve experience, a most enjoyable one i have to say.
PS they looked bigger because default zoom wasn't so far out and you cuold zoom in all the way on ships back then (yes it's been bug reported ;) )

My favorite moment would have to be the time that I was flying with two of my corpmates in Assault Frigs in 0.0, looking for some trouble. We took five minutes to camp a gateway system when suddenly 20 people jumped through. We warped out to another gate and jumped away, knowing the 20 had followed us to the gate. Apparently they were mostly concerned with shooing us away, as they didn't follow through the gate.
Tired and frustrated at having roamed for a couple hours with no action, I asked my corpmates what they wanted to do. One of them said "Well, I could jump in there and see how many corpses I could get..." After we all laughed, I said "Fine, get me 20 corpses." Next thing I know I see the gate fire and he says "Okay." Totally shocked, the two of us that were left had no choice but to go back him up.
In the end, we took down three interceptors, two cruisers and a destroyer, for the loss of only one of our assault frigs. We have laughed about that ever since.

Wooow, 4 years of Eve being here and I've been here in Eve for little over half of that! Where does the time go?! I keep this up and I'll have to get the character portrait changed to have grey hair!!!!
I have so many different awesome memories of Eve it isn't even funny. The first time I saw it in a friend's room I was like "Is this a single player game?" He told me "No" of course but I couldn't believe it until I looked it up! I installed the trial that night and I've been playing ever since! Getting my first cruiser, making my first set of BPCs, mining my first VELDSPAR (hey Chribba, got any tips on Veld mining? ), killing my first NPC, getting podded for the first time (btw YOU ARE STILL ON MY TO BE PODDED LIST...breathe in, breathe out...wooooosaaaaah....woooooooooosaaaaaaaaah...be calm like the wind.... )
Getting accepted into ISD and helping the players is another one of my major bright spots! I know it sounds cheesy but it isn't! Brie or gouda sounds cheesy . Honestly though, being there in the help channels and answering questions is fun and it helps to get new players accustomed to Eve so we have more people to "pew pew" and mine with! Besides, some of the stuff you all ask and say is hilarious!
And the ISD family is awesome! Uncle Wrangler and Mama Kieron are the best alter-parents one could ask for!
Probably though, the TOP, TOP moments were FanFest 2006 and GDC 2007. The reasons? I got to meet the people who made this awesome game! TomB, Oveur, Kieron, Macayle, Wrangler, CoffeeCup, MajorGormour, and all the rest too numerous to mention! Seeing the passion they have for the game and how much they love the players was just...inspiring is the only word I have for it! And being at GDC 2007 was amazing as well and if you weren't there for the party at the Glas Kat....you were missing out!
I hope everyone else has just as much fun as we have here and I look forward to talking with every one of you, either online or at FanFest!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY EVE!!!!!!!!!! Its the FEARSOME FOURS!!! |

As strange as it sounds, my most memorable moment slipped my mind at the time.
HermanLivesInABucket-
I don't know if you're a vet who was pulling my leg, or another ISD or just a truly enthusiastic new player. You were one of my first Meet and Greets and you made me shoot my beer, yes beer, out my nose.
This one's for you herman, and I hope the space-pirates never got your treasure.

Oh no, im late... Happy Birthday Eve!
Funny story here, A fellow mod and myself decided to warp around in polaris space one shiny day. We both initiated a warp to a beacon that was shown on our overview. The capacitor on our ships went down to like 90% and hence i thought everything is normal.
Time passes and we chat a bit during warp. After 10 minutes i began to wonder why we still didnt arrive at our destination. Ah, still a few 1000 of au¦s to go.
I looked back to the station where i came from, hmm, 6000 au away. So i did some calculations (1+1=2) 6000au + 3998au left = 9998au warp. Doh!
After 15-20mins we arrived at our destination .... the Alliance Tourney Specator Beacon.
PS.: Jacques was my partner in crime. PSs.: Yes we did warp back to the station aswell

Happy Birthday :)
My Best moment - During an Event where we, poor capsule pilots were respnding to a call to protect a border from the cursed Blood Raiders.
After we successfully co-ordinated a defence of a few gate camps in 0.3 systems, I got left behind as the gang warped off whilst collecting drones in my Ishtar. As i rushed to catch up with the gang, I arrived at a gate at the same time as an enemy 'Blood Follower ' arrived in his pod. As I popped out the Ogres, I engaged him with my 250mm rails, heart pumping, expecting him to warp away and ** pop ** got his Pod!!
Now have a nice corpse in the hangar morgue :) ----------------------- Arooga ISD STAR Division |

The gut wrenching feeling of losing my first Tempest to NPC cruisers, and the subsequent mining period to get a new one
Not a very happy memory, but quite vivid to this day

EVE elicts a lot of pleasent memories from me, more specifically the day that I made my first low sec PK, it gave me a unparalleled adrenelene (SP?) rush and a bit of a nervous shake when I first keyed on my missile launchers on the poor sap... Anyways, good memories and long live EVE!
