I'm personally hoping it does take stuff from WoW and maybe copies the flarn out of EVE.
Copying stuff from other games ain't bad, it's evolution, and just because WoW isn't so "artfully different" as EVE, doesn't make it bad. Hopefully this is made with good taste, but probably will take many years for bliz to take this one out.

But it still sounds like it'll be eve for kids if it's anything like wow.

It will prolly be like warcraft in that it's basicly a pretty good game but will attract too many kiddies and idiots to make it fun to play. I would love to play a Starcraft MMO if it had an adult audience.

I don't think it will be much like EVE. EVE is a small niche game, Blizzard wants the big market. And how do you get the big market? Relatively easy, "mindless" (not too much complexity in economics, infrastructue etc) and harmless (PvP light, or people will quit) games like WoW. Not saying this in a demeaning way, its just how it works. Such games can be fun for a while, but personally I don't like them, and I doubt I'll be interested in anything coming from Blizzard anytime soon as far as MMO's are concerned. I do hope they suprise and come up with something decent, but I'm not holding my breath.

I played WoW, and thought it was a poor poor game. Very dull, highly unadventurous, and little to recommend it. It is, however, extremely popular (read = cash cow).
Now the same company is making another MMO, set in the twin universe of the last MMO. Who wants to place bets that they don't stick with the format that's won 6 million players?
Starcraft was an excellent game. I think its a very sad state of affairs that it's reincarnation will be, I imagine, as pretty much a new skin for WoW. It deserved a proper sequel........
So yes, for me, copying stuff is bad. --------

lol it's funny, I was thinking the exact opposite when I wrote my post that without innovation, if ccp just copied other games, eve wouldn't exist. __________________________ Indulge Me Consider Yourself Indulged - Immy ♥ Wow immy scored - Xorus |

They are not talking about a Starcraft MMO at the Korea thing, they are going to be revealing Starcraft 2.
It's suppose to be a secret, but we all know that blizzard's employees can't keep such things.

Must you people keep thinking they are making another MMORPG to compete with their own MMORPG? Ain't that profitable. Even if it turn out to be MMO. I can say it would pretty much be MMOFPS. Like Planetside does. It think it's a better formula if Starcraft is going to be one. But I'm sticking to Starcraft 2. ---------

Yes, EVE has a bit of innovation(it's not THAT special people), but wihtout those earlier MMO's that are "cookie cutters", noone would've funded another MMO, MMO's wouldn't be the trend these days and even most of EVE ideas would've been worse.
Only the dumb try and invent the wheel again because they want to be "special".

Their current MMO (WoW) is a sharded game with several thousand unrelated, unconnected servers, with different rules and such for each. It seems perfectly reasonable to assume that they could release a few hundred new servers with "new rules"(and new graphical skins and such) and it will attract yet more customers.
They could treat it just like a new WoW expansion (only more expensive) and still rake in the cash. --------

If its half as soulless and grind hungry as WoW ill give it a wide berth. Whoever said that Blizzard would be revolutionizing the mmo market with this new release is kidding themselves. That is not what Blizzard does. They take a game concept and put so much spit shine on it that it becomes a genre staple. Warcraft, Diablo, Starcraft, WoW. This will be no exception, I just hope it's not grind hungry again, but i doubt the High Lord's of Blizzard purse strings will EVER let them do anything fresh and original.

Well your looking at Eve-onlines demise. All these anti carbear post, anti empire post, anti miner post. There will be a game for them now...in space...a nice PVE envioment to play in.
I see massive layoffs in CCP, and this game might survive, but after four years. I dought it.

Edited by: Patch86 on 08/05/2007 15:22:12 Incidentally, I don't know why you all keep banging on about it being in space. From what I remember about Starcraft, space barely came up. Most of the game's content was soldiers 'n tanks. Just like Warcraft, only with guns.
What I'd expect from a MMO? Be a denizen of the Starcraft universe! be a soldier, a medic, or a shama-.....er.....engineer! --------
