Hiyas,
So I've been piloting a destroyer on my Gallente/soldier main. He has pretty highly advanced skills in gunnery and the assorted needs of your average combat mission pilot, and I've had no problem smacking around cruisers of the Thorax/etc level in complexes or missions.
Then came Human Cattle part 3.
I simply cannot keep my tank up long enough to make a dent in this mission. Once the Caldari Navy warped in, things went south fast - one destroyer popped with two enemies down, reoutfitted, gave it another go with higher thermal resists (most of the missiles smacking me were bloodclaws). This time I couldn't take down a single target before I warped to a planet with my last shred of structure.
My destroyer was kitted like so: 150 gauss x2 125 gauss x2 Modal Ion x2 SalvagerI x2 (All loaded uranium on attempt one and lead on attempt two.)
X-5 Webber Coldgas AB
L. Armor Rep II (does two to one, if that helps) 50 mm Plate 'Spiegel' Thermal Plating (first go-round was a damage mod here)
Hobgoblin in the drone bay
Now, the salvagers weren't helping anything I'm sure, but with the sheer volume of missile fire and the range it was coming from nothing I could've squeezed into my fitting would've made a difference - my guns were non-factors, my tank just couldn't keep me in the fight long enough to wittle them down. Cap didn't really become a factor as getting seven bloodclaws up the keister didn't give me much running time on the rep'per and the rest runs within regen.
So I'm fitting a cruiser tomorrow for this mission and want to know - even with a bigger cushion and a bigger rep'er, is this mission supposed to be so fubar? Is there something I should be doing differently?
Thanks in advance, Unkotaro/Spider Iarus

Edited by: Mudkest on 06/05/2007 12:50:41 for starters, the salvagers on combat setup are not really effective imo. jsut go back to salvage/loot after mission is completed.
then mixing shortrange and longrange guns(ions are blaster right? the others rails?) go with all rails or all blasters(in case of destroyer I'd say rails), drop the plate for either a lrager plate or damage mod, plates are used to add a buffer and 50mm plates simply dont cut it imo. a damage control probalby does better giving time to warp out
and dessies arent great for tanking. tristan and ncurus might do better.
-Duct tape might hold the univurse together, but it's coffee that makes it tick |

And um...bloodclaws do kinetic, not thermal --- So I flame and troll when the occasion calls for it. So what are you gonna do about it? |

In addition to what the other two posts said, I'd replace the lowslots with two kinetic resist modules and a small rep. Hopefully you can also replace the webber with a cap recharger or injector.

Bloodclaws are Kinetic missiles. Flameburst are Thermal.
Fit the following:
8x 125mm railgun
web AB
small armor repairer (t2 prefered) energized thermal energized kinetic
Should all fit, i had plenty of cpu left and 1 grid (i have AWU 4, so ymmv). If you really need to, drop the AB and fit a cap recharger.
You should be able to handle missions just fine in that. But honestly, I would save up my isk, buy a thorax or vexor, and use that instead. - - -

This isnt one of them missions where you're just supposed to see a huge force and then just turn away and tell the agent about it, right?

no, thats the last room in the human cattle part 5/5, where you warp in about 180km from a large fleet of bs+support.

As others have said, don't mix long/short range weapons. You want all your weapons nailing them at the same range. A destroyer is all offense. I go with this setup on my Catalyst:
8x 125mm Scout/Gauss/Compressed Coil Rails (Iridium) 1x Cold Gas Arcjet Thruster 1x Orion Tracking CPU 1x Overdrive Injector 1x Emergency Damage Control 1x Gauss Field Balancer
At 555 m/s with around 20km optimal range, you can kite level 2's (still not super easy, but the damage control gives you a chance to warp out when you need to).

Me and my roomie just worked on this same one. the OPs issue is not his armaments, im sure. the two of us had 8 railgun-equipped destroyers each, warping in and immediately leaving is enough to get us to hull structure in just a few seconds. the baddies are just overpowered for when this mission is available.

Edited by: Zo5o on 06/07/2007 05:03:08 First off, I know you have a lot of skills in gunnery, but if you plan on having this alt eventually run level 4's, get a Vexor now and start training those drone skills. A Myrmidon will be far more effective in level 3's than a Brutix, and a Dominix will be far more effective in level 4's than a Megathron or Hyperion.
Secondly, you shouldn't have a problem with part 3 in a cruiser. Parts 4 and 5 are the doozies, especially part 4.
Part 4 involves, from what I remember, a scramming interceptor and 5-6 Mercenary Fighters hitting with thermic damage light missiles. I used to run level 2 missions in a Thorax with a 1600mm Rolled Tungsten Plate acting as an HP pool, and Human Cattle part 4 got deeper into said HP pool than any other level 2 mission... more than 50% into armor. I can't imagine a destroyer lasting long in that pocket.
