WoW was fun when you could become imortal and solo BWL and just stand with your warrior while 10+ peeps tried hurting you then you slaughter them all lol. 
well point is.. theres been 4 imortal bugs in WoW, 5 if counting a bugged cheap spell that made your life regenerate forever.. CCP's bugs might be severe at times, but i dont think they been that severe..
real point is i hate wow, it was fun 1-40 at the beginning pvping in low lvl areas then they just ruined it. i didnt even know it was a raid game until they removed all the world pvp, atleast you could hurt someone a bit back then.. now its all 25 sec respawns and 10 seconds to get back in the fight.. 
well.. the real real point is.. i actualy played wow, so i just wanted to let it out of my screaming soul..
sometimes you need breaks and play something new

Cute EvEGirl is right, 100% right. EvE brings out the worst in people since cheating, exploiting, causing people misery is how you get yourself further in the game.
Oh and Cute EvEGirl be careful, miners/haulers/etc are great pvp targets because apparently people don't need minerals to build ships >_>

As far as I can tell the purpose of this topic was to ask the question "What about you?" in reference to way you pay for EVE online.
I don't know why I pay for this game. Sometimes I go pirating. Sometimes I go be a good guy and help people out. Sometimes I go kill pirates. Other times I may mine an asteroid. And yet again I go do missions every once in a while. I was thinking of trying out exploration if I can get it to work good for me but who knows.
I think I pay for a sandbox to do whatever I want at the time that I want to do it =P

About a month ago, while browsing online comics, I saw a flash banner add for EvE. It went something like "It's like the US Economy...except you can blow the $^%( out of people".

Ok lets clear things up a bit. Eve-Online is NOT a PVP game, abandon that concept. It is in fact an open sandbox game where pvp is simply the primary way of effecting change in the game. Eve allows you to generally do as you please, which is why I love this game. So if I feel like relaxing and listneing to mining lasers I will, if I feel like hunting someone down repeatly and ruining their day simply to satisfy my inner A-Hole well I will. So go play Eve anyway you want too and enjoy it.

There seem to be a couple of definitions of pvp floating around in this thread...
one in a general sense of player vs player, a competativeness that all mmos have by nature (yes, even WoW) given you're playing with others, but is more pronounced in eve due to the market being player driven, the finite nature of resources etc. (though for that reason I'd argue that the necessity to work together is also more pronounced in eve)
another in the specific sense of player vs player combat; wars, pirating etc.
From what I've read it seems when people are saying eve is a pvp game they mean the former, and when people say it's not they mean the latter. The former includes the latter, but they're not neccesarily mutually exclusive.

PvP might be a poor way of putting it because of the way we associate PvP with combat.
EVE is a player based game. Player economy, player politics, player empires, player militaries, player pirates, player companies.
Moreso than any other game, save one (Original SWG, may she rest peacefully) has ever been, this game is utterly driven by player created content. The politics of the NPC empires and pirates are backstory, utterly pointless except as fuel for the machines of player states.
EVE isn't just a PvP game, its a Player Universe game. Its all about us in the end.

"PvP" is a joke of a term. Why do you need a special term to describe what any given person is already expected to be doing when playing a video game?

No, PVP implies that you're challenging your skills against the more advanced AI known as "other people". There are games out there that are multiplayer and not PvP, one needs only look nextdoor at WoW. Though I agree with the joke that WoW seems like everyone playing single player, just all together.

Its not even really delineable that way, either.
PvP does require some level of cooperation to keep it from being an every man for himself free for all, and PvE ultimately boils down to "he who logs off with the most toys wins."

Correct. PvP (player vs. player) is players competing against each other.
PvE (player vs. environment) is players competing against computer driven entities.
Both can involve groups of players, the difference is not if they are multiplayer or not, but what the human players are playing against. WOW is, as much as we bash it, a near perfect example of a mainly PvE system (with some pvp aspects, but very secondary) where multiple players play as a group to defeat computer driven enemies in the various environments.
