Yes, well we all know that Bush is a horrible public speaker. It's just the weird elitism that I'm curious about. It's like, "How dare you wink at the queen!".

Yeah i never understood the etiquette thing either (Royal family, not table manners) and im English.
To me, inherited respect means exactly squat. Anyone who expects me to be more respectful to any of the royal family, other than I am to anyone I might walk past of the street can go **** themselves. To put it bluntly.

Whats the big deal, I liked the stories on the right anyway....Worlds biggest nude photo shoot, and Judge orders shoplifter to wear "I am a thief" sign.
I dont see why Americans need to show her any respect at all. Remember 231 years ago, Americans got tired of the BS from the crown.....Respect is earned, not given. And her idea of proper conduct done more damage to the crown then any other monarch in british history....

She isn't even an important political figure. She doesn't sign bills, she doesn't veto bills, she doesn't do very much of anything (yes, I know of royal prerogative, thank you) except live the life of luxury. If it was the Prime Minister, that would be one thing, but a worthless figurehead? Nope. Bush shoulda grabbed her and gave her a big ole wet kiss on the lips.

It doesn't matter whether anyone believes she deserves to be there or not, shes the head of state for the UK, and so should expect respect from the leader of another country no matter what it is... and winking is not respectful, she was probably just embarrassed at the time because a blubbering fool just nearly said she was 200 years old and then winked at her in front of a large audience. -------------------------------------------- Stay away from my signature all of ya!!! Its not about "respect" or anything ridiculous like that. Its to do with putting a guest in a difficult position.
The Queen has an image that must be maintained- she has to appear serious and regal at all times. Theres no "regal" way of responding to a cheeky wink. I mean what did Bush expect her to do, stick her tongue out back at him? Its hardly one of Bush's top stinkers, but its still not a very presidential thing to do. The word "daft" springs to mind. --------

Actually yes, that is what is proper in American etiquette. If she wanted to be really respectful of her courteous hosts, she would have jumped his bones right there on the dais.

Didn't he give an unwanted back rub to a German dipolmat a while back?
It is obvious...he is a sexual harrassment suit waiting to happen.
Debate the utility of the queen elsewhere (I think we did it here a few months ago, IIRC). This a breach of protocol, involving a "symbolic" head of state. Maybe he will offer her a foot massage and invite her to see his "etchings" next.
Yeah, he is an idiot.

please remember that 231 years ago the colonial government didn't get tired of taking BS from the CROWN it was from the GOVERNMENT of the time, the British Monarchy hasn't held any power since Charles I got his head cut off by Oliver "i got a spotty little wart" Cromwell in 1649, yes i am a royalist and proud of the fact, yes it was a break in protocol almost as bad as touching the queen (which could actually be classed as a act of treason if you where a British citizen death penalty still applies for this), i have served my country proudly, so please learn proper history rather than the stuff you are taught at kindergarten++ as it is highly inaccurate (before you try to come back on this point please be aware i have actually sat in a history lesson in the United States and it is the biggest load of claptrap since Dr. Crippens defence statement.
