Dont understand why CCP hasnt added a feature to the game to discourage such tactics. make it so you cant activate self destruct while being targeted. make it so all modules survive make it so you get no insurance whatsoever when you self destruct. its basically insurance fraud anyways.
eh? the self destruct is there for virtually the sole purpose of making sure nobody else gets your stuff. where is the sore loser bit? you accept gatecamping in a mothership as perfectly reasonable behaviour, but consider stopping somebody getting anyhting off your doomed ship to be 'lame' and the pilot a 'sore loser' who is 'ftl'?
you're not one of the guys who insist that fitting stabs on a hauler is cheating are you?
If i was going to lose a dread, hadn't been offered any kind of ransom and had no friendlies in the area to get my stuff back.. hell, i'd hit the big red button too.
it's not a temper tantrum if it's the only thing left to do, surely?
He should have accepted the fact he was going down and gone out shooting. Its the equivalent of realising you're about to lose a football match so you pop the ball and run off crying.
It should take ages and ages to break a dread tank (if you can fly it properly ofc). There is more than enough time to get in support surely?

I may dislike the guy for one reason or another of my own and I'm glad to see him lose a dread, but I have to say he did earn his skills, he didn't just go and buy the account. If I was the head of his corp though I'd watch out for him, and I wouldn't trust him though, Pro has a long history of swindling corps and messin them over along with robbing them blind.

LOL ransom. Nice joke.
Personally I'd have to agree with this line of thought. If you know you're going down, and you have the option to rob your assailants of your loot, killmail, or anything at all really... it makes perfect sense to do so. You strike back at them in any way possible.
Honor has nothing to do with it. There is no honor in this game, ESPECIALLY among thieves (pirates, griefers, PKs, whatever you want to call them).
What sickens me is that caps can be lost to such an insignificant assault force right next to a station simply because of some bug that prevents people from docking even when they clearly should be able to.
Getting webbed/scrammed when 10k+ off a station and dying because of it? Sure, no prob...
Undocking, and then trying to re-dock immediately, only to be bumped off and popped because of a poorly designed station combined with a poorly-designed game mechanic?
Lame.

Ok firstly if he had the thing fitted like it really should be then he would have tanked them all day and probably pwned them all.
secondly if he had a cyno alt ready because he was leaving then he could have left without anyone stopping him.
thirdly there is nothing wrong with the stations. it is not a bug. just because u can't undock in front of a fleet with complete safety means u say it's a bug?

Ah.. to explain, it's because IMHO no one in this game can be trusted to honor ransoms. Take a look at the front page of C&P... even today was a story from a guy who ransomed someone that was popped by rats shortly after paying. He kept the money, came here to post about it, and was cheered on by the "pirate" community.
As mentioned in my previous post, from what I've seen of the Eve community in my year and a half (or so) of playing, there are no honorable people here. Quite the opposite, in fact. Dishonorable actions are celebrated as jokes.

in that situation, it was the rats, not the pirate, that killed him. should the ransom be repayed? depend on how much of an annoying wotsit the victim is.
as for ransoms, as a victim, i always prefer paying a ransom, if it is reasonable. it saves me the time fitting a new ship up etc. as a pirate, i honestly dont care if you pay the ransom or not. if you do, i get isk. if you dont, i blow you up and have fun, then sell your loot for (not as much probably)isk. either way, i win. if you pay the ransom, you may win aswell avast, matey! This is a perfect example of the technicality cop-out people will use to justify a dishonorable action, and the exact reason I would self-destruct any ship threatened rather than let it's loot fall into the hands of the enemy (a tactic every military uses, btw)

I try experimental configurations. I wouldn't try that one. But I do try contra "accepted wisdom" configurations. Most don't work. But, sometimes, you can actually accomplish something interesting. And through people who rely on you to do the "conventional" thing for a massive loop.
So I don't automatically assume he was an idiot. Though, there is plenty of evidence that way... |

He'd have gotten his own thread, like the mining/ratting dreadnaught guy got. So, really, in my book he came out ahead. Seeing his ship was taken, he scuttled it in fine Naval Tradition to keep it from falling into the hands of the enemy. :) Phoenix Logistics Industries |

yeah i can just see a friendly plane in a dog fight surrounded by mulitple hostile planes "oh know i think we're gonna lose this one, quick self destruct" KABLOOOOM!!!
And in relation to the posts you see on here about dishonored ransoms, most of them are from small noobie pirate corps who don't care much for maintaining a good reputation. the more established, long time serving pirate corps which include Turby would not dishonor a ransom as it would be very bad for business for them.
plus. for every 1 post about a dishonored ransom on eve-o, there are another 1000 ransoms that take place and go exactly how they should
