Ok I was wondering if the new social skills are working 100% or do they only work with agents that you already have....
Heres what I noticed ... when I check the info of my current agent I'm working with and it says my personal Caldari standing is 5.14 with my skills added in, but when I check my character sheet it says my caldari standing is 4.47. Well I tried to work with another agent from another caldari corp and he said he could not work with me cause my standing with caldari was not 4.75 so I'm guess that agent isnt figuring my standing with skills added in.
So do the skills bonus only work with agents that you already have

They seem to work most of the time for me, but they definitly are buggy. I can get an agent to work with me that I wouldn't normally have enough standing, but thanks to my social skills, they will cough up missions.
But where I run into problems is if I go poking around the agent list looking for a higher level agent. If I even only check out an agent that I have no chance of getting a job from (one that lists standings requirements on the agent info tab), it seems to suddenly negate all my social skills so that when I go back to my agent that I have been doing jobs for the last few hours, he suddenly won't talk to me any more. The only way I can get it reset, is to log off for a couple of hours. (One minute, or even 15 minutes, doesn't work for me.)
And what makes it especially tricky, is that there is a flaw in the corporation agent info list that only lists the agents you would normally be able to work with, without the social skill bonuses, in the "Available To You" section. Thus to see when I can move up in agent rank, I need to start peeking at agent character information sheets, which then starts the whole problem cycle again. (So, I'm learning to only search for a new agent just before I'm going to log for a while. It's annoying, but it works for me.)

If u want to have any use of your connections skill in regards to a certain agent, you need to have a standing with someone else from that corp.
So if u need to talk to mr nice lvl3, but need your conn bonus to reach the faction level, just do a single mission for another attainable agent from his corp.

If you download the optional patch (plus you will need to upgrade dx), it now gives info on how your skills affect your agent

Your Char sheet shows unadjusted because the standing will only be adjusted under certian conditions (depending on the skill)
For your new corp, a solution to your problem is VERY simple.
Do 1 mission for a L1,2 or lower L3 agent.
This will give you a possitive standing with that corp, which will make Connections skill kick in. This will let you use your agent. _______________________________________________

Edited by: PhamNuwen on 04/01/2004 20:59:55 Sometimes the skills are not working (at least 'connection'). If I'm doing a other mission for a lower agent in this corp, it is working again... (Same behavoiur as described in 'Bilge Rat'-Posting)

Thats not the skill not working (at least to my knowledge). Thats the skill working properly. You require a possitive standing before it kicks in. If you have a 0.0 standing with a new corp your working for, connections will not work until you get a possitive standing with them. _______________________________________________

Eactly. I did one mission for a corpoartion to get a standings entery and then could use a level 3 agent.
Social skill itself increases standing rewards you receive for completing missions. Compare your transactions to someone elses transactions. I noticed I was receiving more bonuses than other players then asked them to find the difference. The difference was social skill.

A thing I seem to have noticed is the description is wrong for connections. It says it adds 0.4 to the standing of a positive standing. This is the case at 0.000001 but it seems to diminish as the faction is raised.
As a reference it adds.. 0.4 at 0.0 0.3 at 2.5 0.2 at 5.0 0.1 at 7.5
cba to work out the formula. Bit of a sod because it means it's still impossible at the mo to get true 10.0 faction standing :(

Connections skill seems to actually give 4% of the distance to +10.0 per level. So at +0.01, you get about +0.4 per level (since the difference is almost 10, and 4% of 10 is 0.4) but at 5.0 you only get 4% of (10-5.0=5.0), or +0.2 per level.

you wouldnt have had to figure that out if you read the forums. Papa smurf already stated that awhile ago. _______________________________________________

Its very worth while to take the 10-15 mins to read any dev posts that pop up for future reference _______________________________________________
