I was looking at the Item Database, ship section, and came across the Nyx. It is, like the other mortherships, immune to all forms of Electronic Warfare. Does this also include warp scrambling? So unless you get stuck in a bubble (normal or interdictor) all you would have to do to keep your mothership safe was train 2 alts to use cynosural field generators, keep them at tro diffrent locations (withing jump range) and jump your MS out if you feel you are in trouble or if you need to log?
Is this the case? Is the bubbles the only way to keep a mothership where you want it (to kill it)? It's not like a mothership would be fast enough to lock a good interdictor.

Yes, also most mothership pilots fit officer smartbombs wich can kill the dictor bubbles.

Edited by: Fenlaw on 09/05/2007 13:53:00 So there's really no reason for a mothership to die? Alone from staying in a fight because of pride It goes without saying, if you have a mothership you sure as hell see to it that you surround yourself with people that can cyno you out.
Oh I heard somewhere that you can bump capitalships out of a pos? Has this been confirmed? Last thing I heard it was supposidly not concidered an exploit by GM's

Sure a Mothership can pretty much leave at any time before a fight kicks off, but then again any ship in a safe can log off at any time if not agressed which is pretty much the same immunity.
Once engaged in a fight its not long until a motherships cap is too low to make a jump anyway. All this escape cyno *******s is for people who run the second more than 2 battleships show up. Anyone who gets into a real fight is likely to be using his reps and being nos'd before the need to make ones escape and by that time, you have to get out the old fassion way

Ah yes cap. Then again you would need to know you are going to encounter a mom and go hunting with a nos fleet wouldn't you?

Not really. A nos is standard setup now days. 20 man fleet, each has at least 1 nos, you do the math.

Yeah i'm sure you need 95% capacitor to jump, you can fire all the cap injectors in the world while being nossed and you still won't fill the cap enough to jump. However the motherships greatest survivability comes from the enormous firepower and fleet support it brings along with it. It's not like your ever going to fly one alone and 20 fighters concentrated on one target are going to make short work of anything short of another capital. ___________________

Umm, I think a MS can WARP even with 5% cap, or 1%. And after WARP, it can CLOAK. And when its cloaked it will regain its cap, and then jump.

No one else noticed the cleverly hidden nerf-cry? Anyways, lets ignore that one for a second.
I've seen a couple of video's of MS kills (2 on vid so far, with 3 being killed so far in eve in combat), and I didnt see them jumping out. As Rawthorm pointed out, a MS wont run from 'a few' BS. Heck I've seen his Nyx go for 20 BS + a couple of dreads (briefly on a Pure video).
Fighting that much is bound to make you activate stuff like smartbomb's / reps / etc. Those modules will make short work of your cap, even with officer cap-rechargers. It'll definitly bring down its cap to less then 73% (needed to jump) easy enough.
No doubt though, a couple of Chelm cap rechargers + t2 cap recharge rigs will get its cap-recharge very high. But you could break that recharge with 2-3 carriers fitted with neutralizers.

It's a fun game of range and proper, orderly target calling on your part as a mothership pilot. That's how you keep them safe. Ofc, that implies you didn't unwisely engage in the first place :p

Know this isn't entirely on topic, but what was the third one?
I know of STK's Aeon, and our Nyx, don't recall hearing of the third one though. Ontopic though, don't warp scramblers skew jump driving? I know bubbles don't, but scrams do. Carriers/dreads have this concern, but I'm wondering if a scram can prevent a MS from jumping out, yes I know they're useless for holding one out of warp... but wasn't what I asked.

I've read some warstories in COAD that implies warp scrambling doesn't work. One guy lead a fleet of carriers into a badly overmatched fight where his MS was the only ship to escape because of its EW immunity.

Well speaking as someone who spent a couple of weeks trying to kill one: They are a real Mother all right!
It wsa finally killed with the help of MC, however on one occasion previously we had it locked down and dieng, however a timely response from the enemy fleet saved its ass that time(but it was on the way down, no question) That particular action cost me a nos/nuet domi I was bumping at the time and was therefor not alligned when the enemy fleet landed on me
Our dictor pilots gained some valuble experience which stood us in good stead when we finally managed to lock it down for the MC heavies to finish off.
As far as killing one in lowsec goes I believe we will wait a long long time before that happens, unless someone goes afk under POS fire or something. Without a dictor its not really worth the effort of trying.

So your dictors prevented it from warping off (had he fitted a good smartbomb he could have popped the dictors?) so you could kill it? So bubbles (anchored or dictor) does prevent them from warping but not cynoing?
Why won't it be killed in low-sec?

No dictor bubbles in low-sec. The MS mass is so large, you can't keep it from warping away either, unless you're in a bump-a-dread.

Multiple interdictors mate. He had smartbombs alright. The trick is to drop em in turns once the first gets popped, the dictor drivers have to be awake, experienced, co-ordinated and on the ball at all times. try to drop the bubble at around 13-15 km off the mom so that he would need to move at least a few km to get in range of the smartbomb effect area. Any further away and he can simply go in the oppsite direction.
After all that effort being truncated off the killmail was a bit of a bummer! But my flycatcher simply cant outdamage a dread
As for the lowsec thing: Dictor bubbles cannot be deployed there and since warp scramblers dont work on MOMS and any half awake MS pilot can simply get out if the going gets tough.

Thank you all for sharing your information about mothership operation and tactics. Fasinating stuff, shame they take so long to train for hehe. So I'll just shoot of some more questions
1. How many motherships are approximitly in the game? How many have been killed? 2. What is "the titan sub 20second cap recharge time trick" mentioned by Hllaxiu? 3. Can capitals really be bumped out of a POS and is this not concidered an exploit?

Like said, catching a mothership requires dictoring/bumping and nossing. If you cyno right on top of one with multiple dreads/carriers, chances are you can keep it bumped for a good while. Add dictors and enough firepower, and you're there. Hell, if you have enough dreads, you can probably kill one while it's lagging to align untackled.
Not being able to be scrammed is a great trick and adds to survivability for sure, but then again the thing costs 20 times a regular carrier, can't be docked and has a shorter jump range. That ability is basically it's most important strategical boon, and without it there's little point in building them. Just saying this in case someone is crying for a nerf. ---
