I guess, since I'm new, that this is something to be expected from CCP. I find it extremely wrong for them to be charging us for this service when in fact it is mostly laggy 80% of the time. They seem to be doing nothing about it. In the past four months, the lag has gotten much worse. If my cell phone provider were doing the same thing, I'd surely find a new provider. CCP knows that they have us sucked in, but as just a thought, wouldn't it be funny if everyone just stopped playing for a couple of months?
All I would like is for them to be more "pro-active" on resolving these lag issues. Sure, I can excuse an unexpected downtime, it happens. But, to continue with such laggy servers is flat-out ripping off the customers of EVE. CCP, this is not a flame, but just some guys opinion on what's right and what's wrong. Right the wrongs, please, for the love of EVE!!!

Probably the most important business practice, especially when you have an interruption of service for 15,000 clients. Thank-you CCP for keeping us well informed of what's going on. *Sarcasm included*
Moving on 2 hours and still no mention of what's going down. Needless to say I'm sure your logs and hardware do not register any kind of fault and your hardware is only running at 32% capacity. Everything is peachy and if you really want I'm sure I can forward you my output from pinger which will clearly show that my ISP is at fault.
Can I point out it's 3AM where they are IN ICELAND.
Can I point out their customer base is primarily international?
Can I point out that they still deserve the respect that so little give them?
That does include letting them sleep....
The ones that are asleep I respect. It's the one's that are awake and take 2 hours to create a communication channel that I find still need to prove themselves.

Afaik, the cluster is not in iceland... but yeah, is kind of late. 11:07pm here.
I could have sworn that Iceland was on GMT. But anyways, you are correct, the cluster is in London.

I'm pretty sure they are aware of the lag issue, but lag is something you can't solve with a math formula, or flick a switch on or off. It's not that simple, and there are technological limits to it. Server upgrades, code upgrades, patches, optimizations, the works, are all geared towards that.
Being new is fine, but just take a look around before we assume that they don't care, or that they shouldn't be charging you for it.

Give CCP a break. I mean, step back and think about the complexity of the underlying technology here. I think CCP is doing a great job and providing a great service. The servers are up almost all the time, if there is a service disruption from time to time in a nearly 24/7 game then surely one can do something else in the meantime. They say drug addicts and alcoholics get very very irritable when they are without their substance :).
Fly safe guys. (when the server is back up)

Oh, yeah, they are in GMT, but I am not in iceland. I'm currently vacationing in the carribean. Therefore the 85+ degrees. Kind of hot actually... the 'whatever' effect + humidity makes it feel like 95. |

Ok, this is for those who get so ****ed off at no "communication channel"
I work for a laboratory that must be accredited by many different boards. To achieve this accreditation, we must document every step and thing we do. Now, if I didn't have to document each tiny little step, I could get double the work done.
Apply this to CCP. If for every server error that happens, if the first thing they must do is go to the forums and write up an explanation of what just happened, BEFORE fixing it, then this 2-3 hour problem would be 4-5 hours long.

Oh... and BTW, people about to loot: Beware.
The missions respawned/resetted/whatever just like after DT. I just entered in with the looting ship to a lvl 4 mission that I finished before the reboot and well... no NPC wrecks, lots of NPC ships, tractor beams and salvagers on the highs, not good. :( |

Need for Speed my A**
Watch as CCP try and patch things up, hoping it all holds until the next crash, make some copy and paste sentence "Sorry for any inconvenience caused" and hope its all forgotten about.
CCP will never admit it but 4 years on the Client architecture was never designed for this many people, that's why, they always avoid Lag threads, Jita lag, undocking blk screen, saila and the surrounding systems that just can't take the amount of people they have in local on any given hour of the day. Fleet battle lag... and god knows what else.

Edited by: BMWM6 on 11/05/2007 04:04:42 What's the point, in my experience when a PC game is released if there is problems for the most part patches with be released to improve stable game play and alot of other issues get fixed, with CCP there more interested in telling to about how cool it will be walking in stations, then fixing a problem that effects everyone. When CCP releases patches seems to add more problems then slove them.

Needless to say, its considered a good day in Iceland if you get the actually see the sun. 3 am or 3 pm, it all looks the same that close to the arctic circle.

In all fairness, if this were many other games.. they would still be down.. I will say that Eve crashes are among the more interesting to experience.. The things I saw my Itty do tonight were very entertaining.

i couldn't ever work for CCP. i just don't have the temperament for it.
picture the scene. The server falls over out of hours. we all got rushed back in to fix it, yet somehow in all the excitement of actually working out what went wrong and fixing the problem, neglected to provide a blow by blow account of the issues at hand and how we were planning to address them for anybody that happened to be browsing the forum at that exact moment.
some 16 year old mongoloid promptly feels the need to scream that we weren't doing our jobs properly and he was a paying customer, so on and so forth, despite us being hard at work trying to get his poxy computergame working again whilst he's sat eating a microwave meal infront of his computer.
I'd do what any reasonable human being would do - sneak a peek at their personal details in the payment db, pop round their house and stab them in the ******* throat with a screwdriver.
CCP: patience of saints.
