The title pretty much says it all. I'm a relatively new player who's been playing on a MacBook Air and getting a little tired of it. Between the low-res and graphic settings, the loud ass noise and the heat, I'd really like to get a computer thats capable of playing EVE on max or close to it. I started buying components for a computer build 2 years ago, and got sidetracked with life issues, so I never finished it. I'd like to use what I already have to finish it. I have a motherboard, (Gigabyte z97x-SLI) which has a LGA1150 socket. I need a CPU that can handle EVE that won't break the bank. I'm thinking around 200-250 or less if possible. I also need a Video Card. Other than that, i'm all set. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you! o7 |

https://support.eveonline.com/hc/en-us/articles/202748741-System-Requirements
Minimum System Requirements:
OS: Windows 7 / 8.1 / 10 CPU: Intel Dual Core @ 2.0 GHz, AMD Dual Core @ 2.0 GHz RAM: 2 GB Video: AMD Radeon 2600 XT or NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS
Recommended System Configuration:
OS: Windows 7 / 8.1 / 10 CPU: Intel i7 Series or AMD X4 @ 2.0 GHz or greater RAM: 4 GB or higher Video: AMD Radeon 6790 or NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 or better with at least 1 GB VRAM
I would expect the recommened requirements to be able to run at least 1 client on max settings, probably will do 2.

Anyway... Prepare to dunk at least 250$ on an i7. Also RAM is quite expensive and you need at least 8gb, even used (I made profit selling old ram recently lol). As for gpu, factory overclocked gtx 770 should do the trick if you want max price/performance although to make better use of your cpu I'd recommend something like 780 Ti or 970 if you find good deal.
Another option is to go nerd style and buy used server gear. You would have to hunt a bit and read your motherboard compatibility list but I'm 97,7% sure most Xeons and ECC ram should work. It could easily shave 100-200$ off your bill.
I assume that's for 1080p and not 3 monitors in 4k +streaming. Also no matter the hardware, it won't help in a big blob fight. Smaller blobs, up to few hundred should be fine. |

@Recommended settings are outdated. 1gb vram was a thing in 2007 and 4gb ram barely satisfies some of today's browsers. It's good to have the option to launch a few tabs and open another app while playing eve and not worry about stability.

EVE on max graphics on 3 monitors, CPU wont be your bottleneck, I used to use an i5-3470 and it ran no problem, just sold it on ebay for about $100 to upgrade it to the i5-3570K for overclocking adventures :P
Graphics will be your main bottleneck, i use a 2GB ASUS GTX960 card and its a little overkill for some things, by now a comparable card is prolly around $200.
RAM would be nice to be around 16GB, but I ran on 8 for awhile and it was no problem.

I will agree, the **** ARE you on?
1: i7? Maybe a trash model, CPU is not your main issue 2: RAM? Expensive? O.o 3: You do realize that GPU overclocking is usually by a factor of like 4% right? In comparison it is pretty easy to get a 25% OC on a CPU. 4: Did you seriously just suggest a Xeon processor for gaming, I mean come on, theyre good for multitasking, compiling, server work, etc, but the low clock speed kills single or even dual thread applications (Basically 90% of gaming). 5: ECC RAM........ /End rant/

Eve does not require a massive amount of computing power. Any mainstream Intel or AMD chip will do the job. Your main bottleneck is your Internet connection back to the server.
If you are running multiple clients on multiple monitors at 2K or higher resolution I would recommend a midrange GPU - Nvidia 70 series is fine. My 770GTX drives 3 monitors at 2K resolution without breaking a sweat.
If you're on a tight budget an AMD A10 should work fine.
Any new build should use an M.2 SSD. Don't even think about a hard drive. |

Havent really noticed the difference between a HDD and an SSD for EvE, but hell, theyre so cheap now why not?

Would think anything from an AMD 460 4GB (Around $100) to a GeForce GTX 1060 6GB (Around $210) would suffice for near max to max settings.

I have an i3 from 2010, a gtx 580, and 8gb of ram, runs one client on max no problem as long as you don't warp into a giant fleet battle. I used to run 2-3 clients on high, but turned settings down recently, the last few graphical updates seem to have screwed with performance.

Because Eve is single threaded a higher CPU speed is preferable if only running one client. So in this case a super fast even dual core processor will be better than a slower quad core. For other games and applications the quad core is better but for purely Eve the faster processor is best.
Tbh I think i7s are overkill for Eve and have run i5s and less for years quite effectively. Now depending on the new code base additions there might be changes coming where a different spec is required or should say more optimal. And yeah more RAM is always good. I would also suggest some of the better older GFX cards as you can get the same or similar performance for much less cost. I purchased an older used card and saved almost $200 off an 8GB card.
Have you heard anything I've said?
You said it's all circling the drain, the whole universe. Right?
That's right.

Look into used parts, should be plenty of LGA1150 CPUs and DDR3 ram sticks available as ppl upgrade into Ryzen and Skylake.
Intel Haswell i5-4690K/i7-4790K would be your best bet, but any haswell i5/i7 or even i3 will do just fine. For GPU Radeon RX 460 or Geforce GTX 1050 (both around 100Gé¼ new) run modern games at 1080p 60fps with ease if you drop down some eyecandy. |
