This might just be a problem I'm having, but has anyone noticed their Ogre drones acting off their own will and ignoring player commands? Every 1 in 3 times I use them, they won't attack the target I order and instead seem to be going for a random target.
I say SEEM to be going for a random target but I'm starting to see a possible pattern to their behaviour, they seem to be going for the ship that's inflicted the highest damage on me as they prioritize on cruisers that have been bombarding me for a while over a newly spawned battleship until the battleship has been firing at me for a couple of minutes, then when they seek a new target, they'll go after the battleship.
I've been using Berserkers as well and I haven't noticed this behaviour. Has anyone else noticed this with their drones and can they post some feedback about it please so we can see if we can work out the cause and what drones it's happening with.

Why do you think that your agent keeps asking you to kill his drones.
I think that drone AI was mentioned in the first live dev blog, but it didn't sound like it was going to be fixed as soon as we would like = ie not in the first rev 2 patch. Atleast it is on the radar.

Instead of whining for a nerf to drone AI, ask for a buff. If we're lucky, we could get Bolos with thrusters, preferably a Mark XX or better.

Oh, and seriously, you're quite right about all that, drones have been buggy that way for ages. There are loads of other forum threads on it hiding somewhere too.

I was trying to kill an interceptor with Ogres with no luck. So recalled them, four came back, but one would not leave the interceptor alone.
So I launched my Hobgoblins, they killed the interceptor with no fuss. Then I ordered them to kill the wayward Ogre.
I hope the Ogres in the drone bay got the message.

The drones are so fuked up atm that it's scarry .
Fighters that don't MWD back , drones that aggro whatever they like etc .
When this bugs will be fixed drones will be a solid weapon system onece more atm they're good if you do solo fights. But even the they can screw you up.

As far as I can see there seems to be a distance/time element to it.
If I send my drones after a given target if a) the distance they need to travel is too far or b) the time taken to reach the target is too long, then they will automatically choose themselves another target.
I am not sure if this is time based or distance based. But try this next time you have a few battleships to mop up. call your drones to return to drone bay. Deploy them, choose a target that is over 45km away. Send your drones. at around the 40km mark you may see them change targets of their own choice.
I have a hunch it is time related after the last command given. hence med or small drones have less problems because they reach target faster.

I really don't know how the drone AI works, but usually, if they fly towards a target for long enough, or than it might just be that they have traveled some set distance, without getting into weapons range, they change targets. This is very irritating, especially if you are trying to rat. Another thing drones love doing, is attacking friendlies. At least for fighters. I don't have the RMR cartoon url anywhere, but it is quite fitting:) ___ P.S. Post with your main. Mind control and tin hats |

We need a drone political officier. When drones start to stray he will kill one, and all the others will return to follow the orders. As long as the political officer drone is alive all the other drones get +10% damage.

One thing i have noticed with drones, if you have them out immediately, and you get shot at, they go after the targets that shot them. They will then go after everything that has 'aggressed' you, which is seemingly not obeying you.
If you put your drones out AFTER they have agressed you, they dont do a damn thing but follow your every command.
I think drones are fine, and its annoying me listen to idiots trying to control them.

I had a Vespa II sort of go "rogue" on me. I know that when a drone has a certain amount of damage, it won't function till its repaired, so this was NOT that problem. One night ratting, I launched my drones, all freshly fixed, and one of the Vespa's AIs wouldn't trigger. It would launch, and it would act like I'd disconnected, just sitting their in space, no command functionality, and I was forced to scoop to drone bay.
I was just out ratting in a .5 system, so I can't imagine this is some kind of NPC jamming.
This is my sig, there are many others just like it. With me, my sig is worthless. Without (or with even) my sig, I am worthless... |

I've gone to great length trying to explain to my drones that their artificial lives would be much longer if only they would obey my commands. Though I am a human and imperfect, it is still better for them to obey me. But of course, they routinely disregard my orders resulting in their demise.
My new tact is to just keep spamming the command I want them to follow any moment I'm not doing something else.

I think you could be on to something there, it'd explain why it's my ogres doing it as berserkers are a lot faster. I shall test this in my next long-range battleship duking contest!

I use a Typhoon for ratting in 0.0. My DPS comes from a combination of torpedoes and drones...so I've done a fair bit of experimentation with drones as a result. Originally, I used to fit a drone link aug which increased my drone range from 40km to 60km. When I would sic the drones on a target over 40km (my natural max range), they would run into problems. I'd often have to sic them on a target twice...once to begin with, and a second time after they got past my natural drone range. If I fit two drone link augs, it was the same thing. Each time the drones got to one of the max ranges (40km or 60km), I'd have to give them new orders. When I got rid of my drone link augs and brought my range back to 40km, they had no issues. So I think the problem is with the drone orders being erased once they get past your base drone control range.
