I am a father who allows his children to play EVE under my supervision.. using my charcater and there own. Can someone tell what the age limit of EVE is , my box says 11+ ok.. if so it would be much appreciate if ppl could consider language and content of insults, after all this is just a game. Enjoy and have fun

The Eve box I have is marked Teen - Game Experience May Change During Online Play by the ESRB. According to the ESRB, products marked with such a rating and notice are:

Profanities is somthing that belongs to youth, as you grow older and get a better vocabulary you dont need profanities anymore.
Equally true with all the "umm", "aaa", "you know" bits used in speach.
I do however agree with Naseem (see above why I dont use elite spelling) that there is a tad too much of it at times.

Still, I do like the idea of supervised children in Eve. This game would be the better for it if some of the more obnoxious teens here had to deal with Mom looking over their shoulder.

is there no filter for language that you can turn on or off? this forum has a great filter. i know EQ has it

From the EULA you agree to every time you start Eve:
"If you establish an Account, you represent that you are an adult thirteen (13) years of age or older and are either accepting the EULA on behalf of yourself or on behalf of your child, in which latter case you agree to the EULA with regard to your child and represent that you are also personally bound by the EULA.
ii. Game Rating
EVEÖ has a ôTEENö rating. Parents may find it inappropriate for use by children under the age of thirteen (13)."
Additionally, there is nothing in the EULA concerning language used in the game. If a game allows scamming, piracy, roberry and extortion, what makes you think they would limit the language used?
I can understand your concerns as a father, but the simple reality is that exposing your children to an MMO is the same as taking them to the county fair, an amusement park, a fireworks show, a rodeo, or any other public event. In public events you have very little control over what your children may see or hear.
Feel free to petition CCP for a bad word filter (I don't think there's one in the game) but asking over 5,000 people to never, ever curse just for the sake of your 2 children is a bit selfish and extreme.
I also suggest that you keep your children out of MMOs until they are old enough in your eyes to be exposed to the things you find in everyday MMO life. Even the SIMS Online has Bordellos. You might want to limit them to client-only games (If they enjoy Eve then Tachyon: The Fringe or Homeworld 1/2 may entertain them.)

at least they are learning to spell the words look on the bright side.
But as generalisations go, it will be the younger element doing most of the swearing.
A playground is a rather more vicious place than the office, so please, protect us from the kids.

If it helps, we have a forum filter and bypassing that filter is against the forum rules. The moderators do their best to filter out any profanity or personal attacks.
I believe that in game we have a similair policy, you can petition against harrassment.

I believe that both adults and kiddies do an equal amount of swearing. Of course it's hard to define who's adult if judging strictly by maturity.
I agree with idea of having an option to block profanity in the chat. But in general, swearing lowers the morale of a group. Whether the group finds it offensive or not, they usually end up with a lower morale because of it. Having the ability to block that will allow many people to play a more enjoyable game without the constant bombardment of harsh comments and language.
As far as learning swear words in school... you may learn them but that doesn't mean that you have to use them. Also most schools have a code of conduct that prohibits those words. That doesn't prevent it from happening entirely, as we all well know.
Increased exposure to an environment of profanity also increases the usage of that language. Parents dont want to put their children in places where they HAVE to let their children listen to profanity. For the most part they also want to be there with them if they have to go through it. I support parents that watch their children while playing video games and monitor their behavior.

I think the majority of the flamers of this game are grown men. (mentally not) Lol, I remember 1 hate mail, where I blew up a 'Marine' so he started to talk about how he was in IRAQ defending his country and that i just blew up a marine and i should be ashamed n crap and that he was going to come to my house and kill me.

You've gotta put the swearing in context, if its 'oh <swearword> i've just lost my brand new ship to pirates', i think its acceptable but if its dircted towards someone or a personal attack then its not.

When in corp chat we can swear quite a lot, but this is among ppl we think to know and have a 'realtionship to'
Sometimes when roleplaying some swearing and badmouthing will occur, but only in the line of the roleplay.
I dont think that eve introduces ppl to badlanguage they have not allready encountered somewhere else.
Also being amarrian, I basically play the role of a selfrighteous facist 'bastard', though this may surprise ppl  it is in stark contrast to my reallife personality and that is exactly what makes it fun.
even the paranoid has real enemies...

I`m 29 and Scottish, therefore I tend to swear a lot in real life 
In the game I think the strongest word I`ve used is the S word for the stuff that dogs leave on the pavement (i.e. s**t) and maybe the A word for where the S stuff comes from (i.e. A**e)
If your kids are in a corp with `sensible` ppl then the chances of them reading any severe profanities are slim - I would look to their e-mail inboxes for stuff that could corrupt them

There is no good or bad language, it's just language, how most people speak (unless they are religious fanatics)

Me and them would not be playing eve for a LONG time
but I see people throwing insults and cursing in chat as people that cant find a way to get me in game out of lazyness or ignorance

Filter works well, sometimes it maistakes an inocent words partial part but overall it works well. But I think the poster was referring to ingame chats. which I have seen some vulgar things said, and reported them.
