I wanted to be an industrialist (on my main I might add) and Caldari seemed like the way to go. Also they seemed like the underdogs in many ways (along with the Minmatar who I wasn't keen on) and brits tend to go for the underdogs

Also i like the amarr look, it's almost closest to the starcontrol ships.

I actually made a calculated choice... I figured that using no cap should be able to become a really huge advantage in combat if I really used that advantage to its maximum by using passive modules.
Then I found out that its not really so much about the passive thing but more about piloting when you fly minmatar... but thats OK since thats fun too. --- Eve Wiki | Eve Tribune |

Edited by: Preliator on 14/05/2007 19:17:00 I was looking at the descriptions and liked the sound of Gallente; democracy and all.
But, I accidentally chose Caldari and thought, well I'll just have a play about to get used to the game then create my main Gallente character, but I never did I was instantly in love with the Caldari race

"Originally of French origins, although any direct similarities have long since vanished, Gallenteans value freedom and individual liberty above all else. The Gallente Federation is the only true democracy in the world of EVE."
I always find it funny when people ignore the above underlined sentence and say "The Gallente are French." In 20,000 years, there wouldn't likely be be anything remotely resembling a national stereotype, French or otherwise.
That said, I chose Minmatar mostly because of the interesting backstory -- freed slaves, relatively new republic trying to recapture something of their former pre-slavery glory, etc. I'm a roleplayer, so it struck me as being something rife with creative possibility. Plus the ships are so frickin' ugly they're almost cool.
I did, however, like the hard-hitting artillery and relatively decent starting speed.
I like the Achura for the stats, but that's about it -- the have a very limited amount of character portrait customization which bugs me. I also have a Khanid character, but I think of him as sort of an outcast to that society. While I can't deny that playing an uber-religious fascist slave owner would be the ultimate roleplaying challenge, I don't think it'd be much fun in the long run. I do like the purty Amarr ships, though. Best looking ships in the game, in my opinion.

I liked the idea of a totalitarian powerhouse over religious fanatic empire, corrupt hippie democracy and primitive slaves.
Yeah, I just watched the intro video and made the character.

Edited by: Amarria Lightwielder on 14/05/2007 19:42:01 Well when I first started out I chose Caldari, but not a month after that initial choice I felt like something was wrong. So I re-rolled as Amarr, why? Well I really liked the backstory, the lazers, golden ships etc :) I'm a fan of Roman culture, and that's what it struck me as. And I love roleplaying an arrogant bastard , hence why I was Imperial in SWG :p

Anyway, I chose Gal because of the Democracy etc.
If your wondering why there are so many Caldari in game...
A few weeks ago I had to re-install EVE. I watched the intro movie for giggles - and it states, "....of the four races, the Caldari emerged at the top..."
Mentions nothing of the war....etc...it also says somwhere that the Caldari had acess to advanced technology because they reverse-enginnered Terraforming equipment left there from Earth colonies. - "The Mains Created the alts They rebelled They look...and feel...human Some are programmed to think they are human There are many alts. And they have a plan." - Forumstar Galactica |

Edited by: Soporo on 14/05/2007 20:06:57 I chose mine because I was told how long everything took, did some reading/research and said "wtf, I'd be a fool to take anything other than highest stats..." Little did I know that I would feel like stabbing my eyes out every time I saw my pic. Besides who wants to have been friggin enslaved... Or French... Or some religious extremists... Sheesh.

I thought that is Caldari (Corporate run society) for the Northern US States and Amarr (Religion run society) for the Southern US States? Unless you are talking about the Canadians being Gallente (They are on the continent of North America and technically Americans)
Canadians are definetly not Americans and dont even suggest this, it is one of the worst insults yuou could possibly tell a Canadian.

I chose Minmatar because they seemed like the underdogs, and despite their sometimes unscrupulous methods, they seemed to be fighting for a just cause.

ummm to be a racist bigot - one has had to make comments againt a race - which last time i checked neither Canadians nor Americans are - they are countries not Races -
And last time I also checked Canada is a melting pot of races and as Canadians we all get a long a lot better than most places in the world.
So sir dont call me a racist bigot, when apparently you dont know the meaning of the term.

I picked Gallente as it in retail was the ones who stood for freedom (not freedom fighters)
(I roughly remember the retail manual said something along the lines of this)
Amarr = Portuguese, Spanish and American (North and South America combined?) Minmatar = Africans Caldari = USSR/Chinese but post communism Gallente = French in origin (mostly in terms of laws) but based upon the general French/northern European way of life. Most fair law systems in the current world is based upon the French court system btw.
I also remember that the reason for 4 factions was that they were the dominant faction on earth and they all went through the gate before it collapsed, but before they were self reliant and needed supplies from Earth (and it's galaxy).
