I heard that dampners are getting nerfed? Anyone can point me towards the source of this statement?
Also if anyone have an idea in what way they getting nerfed I would like to know.
No more solo celestis pwnage I guess

Personally I hope they aint nerfing them.
If they nerf dampners it will probably mean I have to train to specialize in the same cookie-cutter type of build as everyone else is using wich is extremely booring.
weapons , couple of nos web, scram, mwd/ab + tank tank of some kind/dmg mods
Id say that 90% of everyone I faced in PvP used such a setup, would be really booring if PvP comes down only to how many millions of SP you have.

damps were still working the same on SISI last time i was on there on thursday....i havent heard any official word.
an arazu on the test server took my curse (162 km lock range with long distance targeting lvl5) to 18km lock range.
id say it was still rather powerful. The arazu pilot seemed fully specced, ive never been damped that hard on TQ.

Haha. well I meant for 1v1 :)
Im pretty convinced a celestis in gang will still have enough dampning power to dampen. I fear my solo pwnage will suffer alot though cause its 2-3km that matters.

As opposed to how many dampeners you have?

heh, 1 dampner isnt enough to matter in a 1v1 as far as I know.
2 dampners are enough on a dampning ship.
I dont knows about BS sized ship cause I havent flewn them in PvP yet. You prolly need 3 dampners though. Wich can be cancelld out enough with 1 or two sensor boosters.
And if dampners were -that- powerfull why isnt everyone using them?

i don't know
on the one site I want to fly my arazu as it is on the other site i hope to get the dampeners nerfed a little.
example:
me in ferox with:
5 x 250mmII 2 x tracking computer 3 x sensor booster
vs:
2 x rapier 1 x arazu
so i deserved to die. No big deal. but its just frustrating if you don't get a lock at all. I mean 1 SB should counter 1 dampener. But to just sit there and see you die without anything you can do, is plain silly.
Don't make it chance based, i switched from falcon to arazu because of chance based ****. But boy give it a working counter.
As i said 1 x sensor booster should neutralize 1 x dampener. So you can do something after all.

sensor booster don't help you.
we tested my arazu with spec at 3 vs a raven with 2 x sensor booster. So like 249km+ looking range on the raven
i was orbiting at 40km and put 3 dampeners on him and he had like 26km locking range.
test vs a crow without sensor booster <2km locking range with 3 dampeners.
i think they calculate:
max targeting range first including sensor booster. and than apply the dampening.
example with my skills using this awesome
i got signal suppression 4, sensor linking 4, gallente cruiser 5 and using best name dampeners (-68%)

If they make them chance based, they might aswell make scrams and webs chance based. :\
Well, ok...
Tbh, damps can be a bit overpowered so perhaps a slight nerf wouldn't be so bad, as long as they keep the specialised ships really good with them, like they're supposed to. Unlike what they did with the jammers which aren't that great anymore, even on specialised ships.
Better yet, boost sensor boosters a little. Like every ability should have a good counter.
On the other hand, damps aren't that uber, and there are alot of other things that could use some attention first imo.

yes true.

TBH I see nothing wrong with 3 recons beating a BC. However I do think a sensor booster should cancel out one dampner. And I think it does without counting in skills, if it doesnt it clearly should. I completely agree with that there should be a good counter to it.
Also rapier + arazu combo might be one of the nastiest in the game, not that Ive experienced one, I can only imagine.
hm 3 dampners on a raven like that should be closer to 30km.
edit: And about the dampning it doesnt matter in what order its applied since its a percentage of the value.
example:
100km locking range at start. Booster and dampner are both adding and subtracting 50% range.
booster first. 100 -> 150 -> 75 Dampner first 100 -> 50 -> 75

IMO damps could use a bit of a nerf. Not necessarily something which reduces their strength, but something which makes them more difficult to be used efficiently. Keep their strength, reduce their flexibility basically. Oh, and damps are the primary EW system I am using myself
Their supposed weakness is that you can counter them by flying close. However this isn't a real weakness since the dampening ship has quite a lot of time to get out then due to very long locking times of it's target.
-> Make damps having 2 modes, locktime and lockrange. You can switch between them when the module is inactive, so you have to choose which stat to effect. Make similar changes with sensor boosters (and maybe buff them slighty to 70%, they are IMO a bit too ineffective vs damps).
Damps are a bit too efficient as longrange EW. Due their very long falloff they are an excellent ECM alternative up to 150-160k. And for this purpose it does not matter if they are on a damp specced ship or not.
-> reduce their falloff significantly to around 1/3 of the current one so they are a real med range EW. They are in this range superior to ECM and should be more limited to it to balance this out.

Please, not another nerf thread. Dampers are fine, use sensor boosters. Both do not use ammo and can run pernamently. The dampers need even more cap to use and they need a lock target before, moreover if dampers used against target lock time and target already inside range then dampers go to waste if you can get out of lock range.
Say like BS damped from 120 to 30ish still will maintain lock, if he locks faster = only way to make him lock longer is to make him loose lock. ---

Exactly, but if your close range, and if you in same sized ship, you might as well lock him before he does, and then his dampers fail completly. ---

"Nerf dampers!" you say?
"**** off" is all that will say to that. RSDs as well as ECM are now fairly well balanced. It really depends more on the situation and PVP skills of the pilots, which one will trump over the other.
The only issue that I have is that perhaps tracking disruptors need some more love.

Edited by: Car Wars on 15/05/2007 13:18:40 As an experienced arazu and lachesis pilot I can honestly not say that these ship are overpowered or that dampeners are overpowered. Something to think about:
-Yes 3x damps locksdown 1 ship from the fight, with a ship that has the damp bonus, you can also keep it warp scrambled with an arazu or lachesis. 4th damp is useless due to stacking penalty. 2x 2 damps on two targets is not as efficient, and more risky as you now need to keep range on two targets
-Rook / falcon/ BB take multiple targets out of the fight. Up to 3 if iam correct, more if cycling.
-solo pvp, getting killed by and arazu/ lachesis-> well you must be an utter noOb. You can get locked down, if your stupid, but killed? Comeon, damps donÆt hurt, damp ships donÆt web, donÆt have dps, nor do you aggro back on themàand if you get close you *****em as they have no tank.
-so damps ships are gangs ships and only neutralize 1 maybe two targets, well if your gang cant cope with thatàrest of your gang is not effected by damps, kill the damp ships, they go down like butter, have no tank, nor cap to run it.
-in fleet: snipe em off or let support kill em.
Just like the rest off eve related nerf threads: get some skills AND some experience before you WHINEà.

When going up against an enemy gang, BB is still always primary, even if a Lach/Arazu is present. And yet people complain that ecm is useless?
Certain mods are simply better for solo (damps), while others are better in a gang (ecm).
If anything, tracking disruptors and target painters need to be more useful.

So true. Target painters need a better role for them then they have now, and maybe even introduce a missle disruptor? Right now we have a way of shutting down turret ship, ECM/Damps/Tracking Disruptors. But no way no keep off the missle boats with FoFs. With high enough skills even when jammed they can take stuff out. ---

Damps are fine. FINE. PERFECT. A boost and they would be the new "toy of choice", better to fit than anything else. A nerf and they'll not be worth their trouble. Leave them alone. Tracking disruptors are perfect too - they do exactly the job they were supposed to, just fine.
Target painters do suck, though... And I don't think they need a boost - they need a change...

Damps need to be analogous to ECM, so they need a nerf. They should be as effective or more effective than they are now on damp ships with good skills, and pretty much worthless on anything else.
Tracking disruptors are a specialized EW system that only works on select ships so they are fine, and amarr needs all they can get right now.
