Alright, before you guys go and chew my head off, yes I do know what the fundamental differences are between the four ships. Hawks are missile boats, Harpies are gunboats, Ishkurs are droneboats and Enyos are gunboats again. Harpies and Enyos can also be further divided into blaster and railgun varieties.
So I'm just wondering what sorts of roles each of these ships fill, and what types of situations each excels at.
The Hawk seems kind of useless to me in comparison to the Harpy, unless you just don't have gunnery skills trained. I'd like to know if there's any situation where you'd rather be in a Hawk.
On the other hand, the Enyo and Harpy seem very similar; I'm wondering if there are any situations in which you'd prefer one of them over the other. Also, in which situations would you fit either of those ships with rails, and in which situations would you use blasters?
Finally, the Ishkur: I guess this is supposed to be an anti-ceptor ship? What roles does it fill, and how effective is it compared to the others?

To be honest, assault frigs suck. You can fit a cruiser to do the job of an assault frig, only better. Interceptors and dictors are usefull but I would stay away from assault frigs.
That's my 2 cents

Hawk is pretty meh until you fit it with T2 small launchers with precision missiles. Then, it becomes a 25km radius where interceptors can not fly.
Ishkur is like the Hawk in this role, only if fitted with T2 Warriors, it can chase down any frig, and with hammerheads, it can take on cruisers.
Enyo is worse than the Harpy by a lot. It only has 2 meds, which means you can't pack all 3 crucial pvp mods: Web, scram, AB. Just use a Harpy with blasters, as the tracking and damage bonuses the Enyo gets are nullified by the extra 2 midslots and a webber. ~~~

Please quit hijacking my thread with non-constructive, useless posts that don't even have anything to do with my OP.

Harpy and Enyo are very, very similar. Both can fit railguns or blasters (you'd be surprised how far a Blarpy can shoot) to good effect. However, given their slot arragment, I'd have to say the Harpy > Enyo. Also, frigate sized guns dont really have any difficulty tracking, though I'm sure theres a few situations where the enyo's tracking could be of help.
The hawk is kind of underrated, but also for a reason. It doesn't have anywhere near the DPS of the gunboats, although it can mount a great active tank with a small gisti booster. Its a great anti-tackler ship essentially.
The Ishkur lives and dies through its drones. It is one of the most dangerous AF's in existence thanks to its nossing and drone capabilities, but its also one dimensional and wouldn't be as good at anti-tackling as the other ships.
Just my thoughts.

My Harpy can target a frig in under 4 seconds and hit from 50km out . Also its got the shield resist bonuses .. With T2 guns I can hit u and still pack 4 rails and a missle launcher. (with warp scram). Oh, and it has the sig radius of a condor. I think its good for taking down dictors/interceptors/and other frigs.

I agree with the some voices here saying that whatever AF your looking at it has to stomach being compared with cruisers, its a cold hard fact that there are cruisers out and your more likely than not to meet them. So you can really rule out the enyo and the hawk, they hardly serve a purpose that cant be filled better by a cruiser or other ship for the same isk, and fighting cruisers usually looks especially grim in these AFs.
Leaves us with ishkurs and harpys, both fill a definite and unique role in their size classes, that alone makes useful in those certain roles. There simply is no other frigate sized ship that can provide sniping at a harpys ranges especially with the tracking. The ishkur is the only frigate sized drone carrier, its drones are dangerous to everything smaller than a cruiser, also its rather tough even for a AF since you have no need for damagemods and nos means your scrambler will just keep going even vs. very nos heavy ships.
Also im not disputing that you can kill cruisers or even BCs fairly easy in AFs, but equal skills in the ships provided and both pvp fitted usually means your either dead or running with your tail between the legs. And a blasterenyo meeting a competent inty pilot will be just dead, and damn those intys seem more common nowadys than t1 ships in a goonfleet support fleet.

Most, if not all, decently fitted/piloted cruiser will wipe an assault frig out totally. Unfortunate fact.
Only good reason to use an AF, imo, if pve'n.

The amount of ships this tactic does not work against is staggering though .
Best use i got out of a ishkur yet is as a gang support ship, tackling stuff while providing anti tackler support. Basicly sick your drones on anything thats to small to tank them(force them to leave fight) while you jump right into someones face with web + scram + nos. If done well(more than one AF doing this) your ships will be able to jump out if getting primaried while the hostiles go down.

A Caracal does this better. Only it gets assault launchers, and a range bonus on missiles too.
AFs just aren't all that great IMO. They're quite good tanks, by frigate standards, but ... well, at the end of the day, they're still frigates, only they're typically slow frigates. Which when speed and mobility is your primary defense, this is bad.

Edited by: Neuromandis on 15/05/2007 21:47:14 The hawk is a tough little nut that it's only purpose has already been stated: kill inties and frigs. It does it about as good as the caracal, only it is smaller and faster, with as good a tank. Of course it's more expensive too. Arguably it is the most dangerous ship for frigates and interceptors. NOTHING else that i can think of.
The harpy is a fantastic little ship that can do a lot of fun stuff. First, you can stand off from combat at a distance of 50-90 km and kill hostile drones and shoot tacklers. As long as a hostile pod appears, you kill it before most others have the time to lock it. If careful to shoot inside your optimal, you practically never miss against any target. No other turret ship can boast that. You lock like a frigate, track like a frigate, shoot farther than many cruisers and as far as most battleships. Pods are your snack. Second, the blaster harpy is a fantastic little bugger that does more damage than you would expect at a range that you outdamage most everything. IF you can dictate range (big if, Webber and Afterburner mandatory), and you stay at the optimal of your blasters, you will do a lot of damage.
The enyo and Ishkur I have no clue, I'm currently training gallente frig V and will tell you shortly :)

No one who has ever flown a Hawk in the anti-interceptor role would say this.
- Hawk locks several times faster. - Hawk is faster through space. - Hawk has a better tank against all weapon systems. 1100 shields and 0/60/70/80 base resists >>>> 1300 shields and 0/60/40/20 base resists. - Hawk itself takes longer to target by other ships.
So go fly a Hawk, try it out, then come back here and post an opinion. Cause right now you're just offering bad advice borne of ignorance, and the forums need less ignorance tbh.
