Edited by: Chigger Troutslayer on 16/05/2007 13:03:23 So I was looking through the contract system and found a bunch of Python Mines listed for sale. I understand they are no longer in game.., but now I'm curious. What were they used for?

afaik they were like proximity-activated smartbombs that you could place at gates in losec. Of course, people just spammed them like crazy, they created insane lag so they were removed. ---

I believe mines were used in the first ever battleship kill in eve, at the hands of moo. If i'm not mistaken.

<SnakeName> mines were used, way back in the day, as, surprisingly enough, mines.
They were stuffed into launchers and then 'fired' from that, leaving a mine at the location of the ship when launched.
The idea was good, the implementation was...unfortunate. Many small objects each doing insignificant damage, caused massive lag, and were thusly removed. CCP mentioned they were looking into how to revise them, but that was back in end 2003, I believe.

The other reason was that people would put them in front of Station docking ramps. So you went to undock some random day and your ship explodes.
But I think you have the name wrong, the original mines used to kill a Battleship by Moo was "Anaconda" Mines. Ive never heard of Pythons before ----------- Amarr- If you like to handicap yourself before the fight begins, then we may accomodate your needs surprisingly well. |

There were several different kinds of mines, each doing (big surprise here) different damage types. Pythons did 30 base EM damage. I forget what the others did.
Come to think of it, I may still have a mine BPO kicking around somewhere...

I don't think this was the only problem. I believe that even if you placed them in low sec, and then traveled to some high security system, you would be flagged if someone ran into your mines in low sec, resulting in concord ownage. At least this is what an older buddy of mine said.
It'd be funny to see people get randomly jumped by concord if you ask me.

Once upon a time I had a corp mate whod always fall asleep on ops. One time wed had enough of it and when he fell asleep we gang warped him to a safe spot and put a huge minefield around his ship, so when he woke up and tried to warp out he blew up.
