Gah! This is not a political discussion. More like a thread about the UK kicking lots of ass. I'm just tired of being an Angry American, constantly having to hate the government for screwing with me. I'd be a Happy European any day over this :)
Anyone want to let me stay with them for a while?

Edited by: Last Cause on 16/05/2007 22:10:53 I understand that everywhere has good and bad points. And this whole topic is borderline unacceptable because of how close it is to politics. However, thats not my intention, I just mean the people in general though. The US, I could feign a seizure on a busy street and if I looked poor then people would rather not have thier routine interuptted so they'd just ignore me. I stopped one time to help a lady standing on the side of the road in the rain, she was literally SCREAMING for help and I was the only one that stopped. Btw, the other people that stopped only did so because the lady had kinda slumped to the ground but was still freaking out and crying etc. They thought I was her BF and had been beating the **** out of her. This place really does make me rather ill sometimes. I've had friends visit from the UK and they hold about the same sentiments, and are quite surprised how rude everyone here is. In general I just feel like my kindness to others would be appreciated a bit more somewhere else. -Sig- Green Gecko Inc. A corp, A family. Hiring ALL types of players! 0.0 based!

Dude the UK is no better. No one gives a damn anymore. Hoodies terrorize old people and the police don't care. Mums with kids spin and crash off the road and people don't stop to see if they're ok, or even still alive. You ask someone the time and they just pretend not to see you. Even something as simple as letting people off the train first before everyone else gets on is gone, now it's a mad crush to get on in case the train leaves abruptly for some reason, young and old alike get pushed aside, kids get trodden on, it's sick.
I wanna move somewhere small, rural and peaceful, where people are still human and the modern culture of 'I want it now and on my terms, f*ck everyone else' doesn't hold sway. The UK is small and so that's pretty much the case everywhere (some parts of Scotland are still quite nice) but the US is so vast that some places may as well still be in the 20s. I want to live there. I picked out a nice little spot just outside of Hendrix, Arkansas where I can build a house and live quietly. That's what i'd like most of all. And i'm only 20 ffs.

There are far fewer differences between the UK and America than you think. The thing that always, historically, made America great was it's frontier spirit. But I guess that's what you want to get away from. Besides, English people put liquid chocolate on bread. WTF?!

Arkansas sucks, I lived there, it is a beautiful place though. In summer it gets ridiculously humid and hot there, and the bugs are just gigantic. I mean, have you ever had to deal with chiggers?

I'm not sure where abouts you live but I've never seen it that bad. Hell, I've seen someone stop traffic on both sides of a busy road because a little duckling was trying to cross the road. And I live where you would expect it to be at it's worst (i.e. near/in London). Sure, chavs are bad (and annoying/anti-social/should be killed) but they don't make up the majority of the population. The majority of the population are quite helpful. In fact, just today I saw 5 people rush to help an old woman that was getting off the bus and about to drop all of her shopping.
If you don't want any chavs, go and live in a small village in the south or south-west. I go on holiday to a little village along the Jurassic Coast with my family every year or so and I've yet to see a single chav along there. ---------------------------

Actually in general our manners are better over here, everyone holds opens doors for people and if people need help provide it. Chavs dont ofc but we shouldnt expect otherwise :P
I dont like the general PCness of our laws but well, just got to hope that will change. Other than that im pretty happy here.

Aslong as you dont move to England you will be fine
I agree with some people, every time I have gone down to Manchester or London I have been quite amazed by how rude some people can be. However, outside the major cities the idiot to goodguy ratio becomes more in favour for us, so all is good
Scotlands generally the same, but not quite as bad. Glasgow and Edinbourgh have a supricing amount of gits, while outside them its much better. East Coast Lowlands (Gateway to the Glens) is very nice. And, its the sunniest area in Scotland! (Not saying much )

I think thats just the general rule of all urban areas. The bigger the town or city, the worse the manners of the citizens. Its like a sliding scale.
BUT, out in the sticks in the UK is much more friendly than out in the sticks in America, as a rule. None of the small town hostility you can find in the US.
So on that note- move to the West Country! --------

If only that were true. I spent most of my teenage life living in small villages and large towns (I moved about quite a bit). The people in the small villages were biased, ignorant, abusive and, overall, bullies. I live in a biggish village now (30 years old) and basically keep to myself. In general, after spending most of my childhood and young adulthood moving around, I've found that people are the same no matter where you live.
