sorry eve, I really tried to like you. I love the premise, the tech, the intricacies, engineering and strategies. But for a solo player, its a complete waste of time. Odd and irregular hours of play, limited time and, especially, inability to be a total sycophant relegate me to the world of loner roamer which equals death. I play games to take a break from regular life, alas all this is more of the same. Unless you are part of a gang and/or have a 1b income stream to blow on blinged out pvp ships, life is pretty ******. I'll just go grind a real job thanks. cya. |

You'll be missed OP. Last thing this game needs is more people leaving, but I'm sure the crowd of elitist will be out in force to tell you why it's your own fault youve been driven out.
This post brought to you by CCP's alpha forum alt initiative. Playing the eve forums has never come cheaper.

Same could be said of those who believe the game or devs are solely responsible for it being a less than worthwhile experience. Call it a two-way street, if you will. Then again, that's honestly not really a fight worth picking. As is in many arenas, pointing fingers is rarely ever a good first step. Truth is this game, like any other, is either worth your time or it's not. One major reason is indeed how lopsided Eve is in terms of how enjoyable it usually is to two very different play-styles: those within a group, and those on their own. It can still be enjoyable to a soloist: even after 7 years, I'm still around and have no plans to leave anytime soon. Granted, I am me and you are you and that alone can make a difference. You just have to find your way. Other players can help if you're willing to let them -- the hint here is that, while I am now, I wasn't always a solo player.
It's unfortunate that the OP isn't enjoying Eve. Hopefully then, even if not of this game, you are able to find something that is. In that case, I wish you good fortune, Annir Janau. Stay safe and fly dangerous.

How is that a sane reason for solo play? Most of us have strange playing times and things change in RL. Never had any issues with it in Goons and everyone knows how strict we are with paps and stuff.
EVE is a ****** game when played solo, It is a ****** game with others too but then you get to enjoy the strategic level stuff and that is the fun thing about EVE. |

The point is that goons would be active 24x7. Even cas combat in syndicate, which is probably no more than a couple of hundred people, has active people at any time of the day, so take an organization 500x the size...
Also I've never found problems finding things to do solo.

This is Dr. Ogres Lets play Eve online 1. It is a well-done tutorial for solo play at odd hours of the day. He has a great perspective on the game and goes over many of the early stumbling blocks.
Best of luck, both here and in rl.

I don't really "Love" the game but going on four years with no intentions to leave anytime soon pretty well means something. Never made any friends, do not trust any character except my own and sometimes wonder about them. I multi-box three accounts and a bunch of characters and tend to play my own little game and while I'm no PvP drama queen I do have my moments, rare though they be.
What a lot of people don't get, and this springs from the faux Boom Boom trailers CCP puts out, is that Eve is not and will never ever be a source of instant gratification. Success comes only from time spent in mental preparation concerning tactics, ships, fittings, skill training, all that and if you guess wrong then some rude so and so blows all your meticulous dreams to little itty bitty pieces.
And that's the way it is and quite frankly I hope it never changes.
Forum Rep for a bunch of characters, couple corps
and one seriously Lost In Space multiboxer.

Yes! Posts like that make me happy, It seems EVE still have this special something I started playing it for. It still have all those challenges. Here you have to make your own cookie, but this cookie is worth something to you in effect.
Its remarkably real for a game. That is why I like it.

I think the OP is giving up too soon, but it does highlight the fact that EVE has a formidable "hump" period that must be climbed to continue. It's the period AFTER you've gotten some skills and have begun to get a handle on the complexity of the game and BEFORE you've developed enough skills and knowledge to engage in a wide variety of fun activities. We spend a lot of time talking about the learning curve (or cliff), but not as much time talking about this engagement hump, despite the fact that it strips as many new players as the early game.
For me it came a few months in where I knew just enough to get myself in trouble but not enough to get myself out. As a result, I felt like I couldn't do anything without being smacked and beaten. The people who get over the hump are the ones who find something that they both enjoy and that they can do successfully at their skill and knowledge levels. For me it was FW, but it's probably different for everybody. If I hadn't stumbled into FW, I might have gotten similarly frustrated and quit as well.
However, once you get over the hump, the entirety of the EVE universe lies in front of you with its immense possibilities. I'd tell anybody that if you liked the game enough to play it for 2-3 months but now don't think it's fun anymore, then you're probably facing the hump. Push through and it gets better. |
