Originally by: Adaris well you can't steal in pods. Moving items around in a can is not stealing as it doesn't leave the possesion of the owner. Pods do not have cargo bays so you can't drag it into yours.
what about moving items from can A to can B?
Now THIS is an interesting idea for you orethieving scum out there. Make a can next to the ore can. park ship in safe. warp in with pod and move the ore.

Their seems to be some confusion on how the flagging system works. So heres the lesson for those who arent in the know. You can open somones can and look in it, move items, add items and you will not get flagged. If you choose to steal items you will get a warning box come up [if you didnt dissable this in options] asking you if you want to continue with this crime.
When I tried to steal from the can causeing a traffic jam at the station I never got a warning . Instead I got a message saying that you cant loot a can with a freighter. the item never left the can. This led me to belive I never stole [ which i didnt]. But the owner still had kill rights on me. If I would have known their were kill rights on my freighter I would have redocked.
I know you shouldnt be able to loot cans with a freighter . It was a experiment durring a moment of frustration.Any who My freighter servived [ with no help from ccp]. The facts remain I was flaged improperly and this should be fixed by ccp.

Ooh! A bad analogy thread! Can I play?
The OP was like a quadriplegic who controls a motorized wheelchair by blowing into a tube. In a store, he wanted to steal something, but stopped because he had absolutely no physicical capability to commit the crime.
Or:
The OP was like a kleptomaniac student on a class trip to Washington D.C. He decided to steal the Washington Monument by putting it under his coat, but was unable to because what he wanted to do was not physically possible.
He may have intended to steal from the cans, but since there was absolutely no possible way for him to have actually done it, there was no crime.
This is really about reasonable expectations. He had a very good reason to think that he was not flagged, and made decisions from that viewpoint. If he had known that he was flagged, he might have made difference choices, like maybe docking to wait it out.
The other problem is that there is a gulf between how we describe things, and how they really work. We say that you get flagged by stealing from a can, and that works most of the time. But flagging is really just code on the server, the server doesn't know all the meaning and context that we put into "stealing from a can", it just follows rules. So things that we wouldn't consider to be stealing at all end up earning us a flag.
Bottom line, the difference between how software is intended to work and how it really works is called a bug. Fix it.

Of all the morons in this thread, you come out on top. You don't even have to read the whole thing, just the title, to see his freighter didn't get popped. 'Grats to the pirate'? For what, exploiting a flaw in game design that means people can't move away from a station without flagging themselves? My, that takes real skill and thought.
CCP should get their act together and do something to counter the growing opinion in the MMO community outside EVE that this game is a haven for griefing.

Kind-of random side question: Does tractor beaming a can flag one as criminal? If not, others could move it out of the way of the station for you.
I do have to agree with the OP: This is a bug and should be fixed. Intent does not make a crime, especially intent without ability.

Sadly, you can't tractor random cans.

And what would you have done o upholder of the law in these cases?:
Quote: The OP was like a quadriplegic who controls a motorized wheelchair by blowing into a tube. Absofnckinglutely nothing ... or how about if a jewellery thief tried to steal some diamond rings but when he tried to grab them his hand hit the glass of the display cabinet and he walked away empty handed ... is that attempted robbery?
Basically, it was an exploit (can immediately at exit of station) followed by a bug (no sign given to transgressor that he had commited a crime). If he had been blown up I think the op should have gotten his ship back from the GM's due to the can at the exit of the station..... |
