My vote = real time skill training. It's one hell of a gimmick!

Edited by: Moneyspinner on 18/05/2007 08:01:29 Sorry to say but, EvE is just an expensive IRC program to me now.
I enjoyed playing EvE because there was endless things to do, but once you have done them all, theres not much else to do unless you repeativly do the same thing over & over.
I`m sure when new content is added I might just get back into the game again or find some new targets to reach.
The reason I`m still here ? Is the fact I have put in over 2 years of skill training & as said, use it as an IRC to talk to some RL friends on here.
EvE is no fun, EvE is an addiction

The real time skill training is one of the reasons im planning to be here for a long, long time. It allows me to try lots of other games as well without losing much. Its a win-win situation both for ccp and all of us.
For example, just taking the Battleship skill from IV to V takes more than a month. Perfect time to try another game in that time (and probably get sick of it just as quick). :)

Eve's pvp (and the people I pvp with) is why I play. The OP clearly has absolutely no understanding of pvp, or at the very least has simply never been in a half decent pvp corp.
During quiet times or when I'm simply sick of the game for a while, as Jim McGregor rightly points out, I can train a long skill, bugger off and play some other new shiny game that's just come out, then I come back in a month and I can fly some shiny new ship, or I've finally perfected my skills in another.
The real time skill training combined with the sheer investment I've put into my character keeps me subbed even when inactive. Eve always pulls me back in before long.

I always played Fantasy RPG online games as: Ultima online,Ragnarok,MU online,Knight Online,WoW,Lineage2 ...... after this i was looking for a change i think that Vanguard was the one but it was terrible mistake so i tried EvE online. I like scifi scenarios and this game looks good for PvP and Trading , then you can pay you month fee with ingame money. So it was sure shot *snip* Signiture is not eve related - hutch |

Why do i play EvE?
I use EVE as a big MSN with a buddy list chatting to friends on it and Teamspeak having a laff.
Also I enjoy the PvP side and the chance to lose/kill something your real time has invested in.

Effort is rewarded, and there are harsh consequences. You have to strive to do well or you get pwned.
I find it pretty easy to beat nearly any game I play. I'm not the greatest gamer around, but I'm well above average. Paying $50 - $100 (or whatever) for a game that takes me a week or two to clock starts feeling like a waste.
I fully agree with the last sentence there.
I generally play games until I have them "figured out". Only sims (racing & flying) and strategy (that's turnbased only) last more then a few weeks.
I'm still under 3mill SP, and haven't really gotten into PVP yet. Gotta build me a nest egg first (the term may not translate to english?), and jumpclones, so i can afford losses. So I may be wrong in the following statement.
Eve doesn't seem that hard to figure out.
It's got a decent amount of complexity for an MMO but I'd like to see a LOT more.
If I was to redesign a great space MMO from EVE I'd like to introduce enviromental effects of some form (for example gravity effects, radiation effects, sensor shadows etc), greatly increased logistics (first up would be the need for fuel, supplies etc for your ship, that's constant consumption for all ships, not just jumpfuel and not just for caps), a measure of uncharted moons, belts and maybe even planets. No local, and no forced gate travel. Gates could remain as a cheaper form of travel, but other options should be available. Bring scanning (alongside stealth) and the importance of it to a whole new level.
So why do I play Eve?
It's in space. It's got a decent character development system. I haven't figured everything out yet and I'm having fun getting there.

I play, because of the PVP, the chance I may lose my ship. I dont get in a gang and hope I have better numbers, in fact, I would often go solo against several targets at once. Also, it takes skills and stratagies, last night, I was engaging a myrmidon on a station. When he undocked I had to bump him off the station so he couldn't dock. You described PvP as a pure numbers game, in gate camps and lowsec. Try out a 1v1. Or maybe do an empire war. See how that goes. http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=465618 |

Think that's one of my reasons as well. EVE is quite friendly on the RL. You can leave without feeling that your character suffers or is left behind. Other reason is the time already invested. And ofcourse the adrenaline you get from standing too lose a lot when you go... poof.

EvE has become a routine in my life. After work I come home log in and .... start EvE work.
FFS....I'm a glutton for punishment I guess. In fact...now that I think about it I've been known to plan family vacations around Eve if something important was going down.
