Personally, if we do have crews on some ships, I'd like to see crew experience affect performance. Given a long enough time on one ship that you don't get popped, have your crew's experience improve during various operations that has some minor effect on ship performance.
Like a crew that gets a slight boost to tanking ability if you're the center of a group's attention. Enhanced regen, or enhanced resistances. Armor or shield, depending on what's used more often.
A crew that tracks better if it spends time hitting smaller targets, or gets a slight range bonus for sniping duty.
A crew that scans a little faster if they're used for survey/exploration duty.
Slightly better mining ability.
Nothing dramatic, like 10% at the absolute highest attainable level after two months or so of regular use, but use it as a reward for players who don't get their ships popped every other day.
You can even scale it, so when your ship takes hull damage, the crew suffers casualties that have to be replaced with rookies and your skill boost suffers a proportional drop.
It shouldn't become something you "must" have, but something that if you get, it makes life a little more convenient.
To keep the buff proportional with the risk, you can scale the experience based on the kind of encounter. PvP encounters improve crew skill at two or three times the rate that PvE does. Sound unfair? Heh, ask a typical PvP pilot how often they get popped.

Would you have crew insurance?
Maybe you'd have to pay some insurance to the families of the crews who are killed.

Yes, as long as it's not an added timesink.
It has to be really really simple and easy to use.
Remember we now have the added complication of rigs and coming "heat". Any more would make my head go hurty, and that would be bad

YES, I think it would be quite cool. We already know that our ships have a crew, but it has no significance at all. Especially when we lose a ship, who gives a *** about those crewmates who died right? Its all about the ego of the pilot, who always escapes. Problem is, will some of the crew escape as well? Bigger pods? Will crew gain experience the more kills/time you've kept them alive in a ship?
It would definately add another dimension to the game... and EVE needs that. ---

So, according to game lore we already have crews. As for implementing them somehow in-game, i'd like to see a game-mechanic where the longer you have a ship and the more you pvp in it, the better your crew gets, giving you increase in RoF, accuracy, etc. ------------------------

When I started playing eve tho pod concept I didnt really understand. It seemed silly for one person to take manage the entire vessel.
I looked at the ships real close. You see windows... lots of windows.
So to get my head around it, without reading in depth any chronicals. I made up this fact, that when the ships were invented they had crews. Then with amarr jove or whatnot they invented pods that link the brain of one pilot to the ships computer system.
Which more or less hit the hammer on the head.
Moral of the story is, don't regress in technological advancements...

maybe have crews the same way we have most rigs/modules you buy a crew of millitants and they are better at handling rails or shield systems but not so good at keeping the engines going at 100% could be good

Having a crew only makes sense if we're going to eventually have a boarding party option. Else no crew is needed. They'd be used as a factor to determine a successful/unsuccessful boarding attempt sort of like in an ammo type of fashion.
Generally, I vote no.

"yes"
I like this idea. An Indy should get (a very litte bit) more space per jump it did or per time its in space and a fighting vessel more hitpoints. There should be a reason to keep the ship alive except the not losing the fitting. Maybe at some point your crew is even able to repair the ship (very slow) without a module.

Ships already have crews. Read the backstory, fiction, etc. It's been stated in multiple places. I'd look some up, but...too lazy.
That said, if crew management added some more diversity to this game, I vote yes.
If all crews do is add some sort of 'sink' to the game (time, isk, whatever), then I vote no.
I personally don't care about the crew of my ships that go pop. Life is cheap, and there's always more cattle on the mudballs to make more crew. ___________________________________

I would like to see Crews added for those players who want gang bonuses but don't want to fly in a gang.
Nothing too excessive, just 3% bonuses at most, and they shouldn't be cheap to run, perhaps another advantage for Amarr players is that they can utilize slaves more effectively - which wouldn't need replacing? - BOOST OUTLAWS (-10.0 and proud of it) |

Id vote yes. itd add alot more to the game. Not just in ship customisation but also in market and logistics. You could have a new POS structure. Training Facilities maybe? slaves janitors go in. ship crew comes out. exotic dancer goes in ship crew supervisor comes out? new crew transfer modules for logistic ships .

Crews would be a nice feature because :
- It would be nice if you fly one ship for a long time and don't get killed, you are rewarded with bonuses in form of crew experience. - Obviously crew experience should be based on actions you've performed, for example doing damage/killing another player ship should give experience based on amount of damage and type of ship killed. Killing NPC ships should give a tiny bit of crew experience or none at all, because it is far easier to kill NPC. - To make it less system-resource-demanding, there could be crew grades (gree/vet/elite etc.) with certain amount of experience needed to reach each level. Just like skills really except activity-based not time-based. Then each level of crew experience gives like 5% bonus to something. - There could be non-combat crew experience bonuses such as *gasp* "mining" or "cargospace optimisation" bonus for crew of industrial ships and transports, depending how much volume of cargo they transported how many jumps (just as example)
In any case such feature would demand system resources of the game and that's not something there is a lot of in 100 v 100 fleet battles.

Edited by: Soporo on 20/05/2007 12:27:19 Crews would be nice, different experienced crews for different bonuses. Say Green, Regular, Veteran and 'Leet. A Green crew would be free, the others wouldnt. The bonuses could be for stuff like grid or shields or armor, nothing too earthshattering and a minor bonus say 4-5% max.
Having corpies board your ship and handle certtain aspects would be awesome. Course, theres no point now, with the lag and the instant WTFPWNED or GETWTFPWNED combat in EVE atm.
At the very least, someone with some proggy savvy could come up with a KillBoard that calculates the number of crews you have killed or had killed for each ship.

YES to crews!
Have them give you added game bonuses... like quicker reload times and faster warp speeds.
Let me create, design, and name them to show in my 'Bio'.
Sell them on the market with different abilities and strengths.
Be able to 'train' a crew to use for yourself or sell.
Buy 'students' on the market and make them skilled.
I love this idea!

crews coud be an improvment to al parts of a ship.
pa example:
Ship crew splitted into groups
crews : increase Rof.. percantage.. skillbased... Experience in fight s increase it step by step to like "leveling in other games which increase the power of npc chars who helps u " increase of dmg like with more experience the can find the enemies shield frequenz code... which brings more dmg to them... increase of engeneering which brings an effect to reduce shield/energy recarge rates.
This coud be bring to all parts of a ship include a leveling on the crew. I think it coud be a nice improvment to game at least the pvp part include Pve.
If this woud be the way on ship crews i woud vote YES.

I vote yes, but only as an isk sink.
Each ship has a set number of crew, and can only undock with a full complement.
Each % hit of armour dam removes half the % of crew down to 50%.
hull damage removes half the % of crew down to zero.
If a ship reaches ZERO crew - it can no longer run it's high slots - everthing else is fine - of course you would need a hull rep to achieve this.
Each station has a pool of availiable 'crew'
which is added to:- (1) every a time a ship docks 10% of its current crew is added to the station pool (but not removed from the ship)...upto the stations max. Downside - could increase lag / station load time.
or (2) the pool is reset at downtime. Downside - Stations could run out of avail crew much faster than (1)
or (3) crew are an 'item' which can be traded and fit into a new ship slot. Downside - think this one would require the most developement time.
A ship must have a FULL crew compliment to undock.
Might help to add a bit of meaning to 'death' in EVE. I love hearing people worry about the crew when they lose a ship, but when they come back with 25% hull - the crew never get a mention ! How many got sucked out into space or killed in explosions ?

My views are MY views, and have now't to do with my corp, alliance, faction, or sewing club. |
