What do you mean, crews? For your ships? If so, why?

This is a discussion forum, if you want crews then say why and if you don't say why not. Simply saying yes or no is not discussing, it's spam and will get the thread locked.

Well, either you have a crew or you do not. As a purely RP element it seems best to just let you decide for yourself.
I personally would rather not think of myself as having a crew, too many of my ships pop.

Mmmm, i kinda like the idea of crews giveing small but usefull bonues to your ship...
...on the other hand i don't want to pay them, i don't want to meet them, and i really don't want a stat in my charicter sheet that says "102,973 crew have been lost under the command of captain Alski" -

No thanks. I already micromanage enough aspects of my ship. Next thing you know i'll have to start taking "Bathroom Breaks" to keep my performance 100%.
Just know your ship has a crew, and that the crew works to keep the ship running. That's all you need to know. -----

like the idea. where you could have them, they gave alittle bonus and cost X each day to have, and maybe got up in skills as they servived in whatever they where hired to. AND they should come on your sheet:P ___________________________________________ Humans take everything that is beautiful and sweet and turn it into something horrifying and ugly.

If you mean NPC crews where they can get killed during a battle and you have to replenish them.
No thanks I think that is a bit to much of a ISK sink.
I think that would open up the door to crews with special abilities and mods.
Hmmm now that would have been a good tiwst instead of a module that improves resistants make it a crew member that can tweak a your shield better etc etc.
A bit late to be doing that kind of over hul of the game in general though.

What's the point of having crews though? I mean what would they do for us? I really don't see a need for them and it would only add a detail to the game without really enhancing it.

I don't see a point in adding crew management. I would like to see a count of crew killed in killmails, to help drive home how cheap and expendable life is in New Eden.

NO! they are ships converted for use by pod pilots, and its how eve gets around needing multiple people to man a ship - the pod controls all. if anything, my crew would get in my way :P Someone keeps truncating my signature, I swear |

True, from a lore perspective it makes sense not to have a crew.
I do miss Seth Able Robinson's Planets: The Exploration of Space where you could name your science officer, engineer, and stuff like that though. Forget if they actually gave you any bonuses though.
However, given that the pod controls all, it's a little odd that there's all these windows and stuff all over the ships that no one ever uses.
It would be pretty nifty if you could transport other players in your ship, like a cruise liner.

Depends on what you mean by "crews".
Do you mean other players "joining" your ship as crew so that their skills boost the ship a bit like a gang bonus.
Or do you mean the ability to "buy" NPC crew members you can "train" them to boost like a gang bonus.
Maybe gang's could be the answer.

Except of course for the thousands of crew that are aboard each ship.
The Raven's specs show 'crew: 5000', there's a short story about a member of some pod pilot's Apoc crew who bails out whenever the ship goes into half armor, and the fact that no pilot gives a damn about their crew, who are cheaper than scourge missiles you've already fired. :P
Oh, and don't forget the 100,000 people on a Titan. ~~~

The pod does not control the entire ship. In fact, according to the back story, pod ships still require a crew. We know the Apocalypse has a crew of at least 6,000 people.
Would be fun to have a crew stat kind of thing, but it could easily become annoying. I say No for now.

Edited by: Petrothian Tong on 18/05/2007 22:01:29 all ships come with basic crew.. and yeah small bonuses if you train the basic crew (by paying isk of course) in special fields.
IE: damage control teams: adds 5% to amour resists (stacks)
IE: weapon dock specialists: add 5% to weapon reloading speed (hehehe!!! someone gotta load those missiles/shells faster!)
but yeah, they die if your ship blows up...
edit: it wont be much change, just add "crew slots" .. and it wont be sims online.. since well, you can do much with them other than putting them in the ship for small bonuses.
they are just like any modules.. squishy, modules.. -Siggi- ""PvP" isn't only direct person to person combat, it can be very indirect. Selling an item on the market which somebody buys from you is resulting in another guy not getting a sale." Oveur |

I think crews would be cool. They could work the same way as rigs do.Instead of a CCC you have an Engineering crew and so on.
I'm not sure I want to have to look after them by building a social club for them at a station or any of that malarky.
The question is:Do we need them?
Not atm

I think... that the bonus's should be small. Since 1 man isn't going to improve the resisttance of a shield or armor a whole 5%. I think that if you were to have a crew it should be like 0.1% for every man on board. and for every hit that hits you (lets say a wrecking shot) a person has a 75% chance of getting killed. Also you cano nly have 10 people working at a time for a certain module aspect of the ship. Ex. 10 people working on shields, 10 on armor. Also make the number of people working be under a specific ratio for the ship. (Frigs: no crew, cruisers a few, battle cruisers a lot, battleships a whole lot, Carriers OMFG WHAT THE !@#$) This is to make crews so freaking overpowered. (Ex. 1,000,000 man crew on shields = 100,000 shields....) ----------------------------------------------

From the background story podpiloted ships HAVE a crew. It's just way smaller than those of normal ships and apparently the podpilot does some "psi-mindcontrol" with them and uses them efficiently as tools for his will.
Which is IMO rather illogical (which would you do that and not simply wire the ship for your control) and I try to "forget" it whenever possible.
So from my side "No" to NPC crews. Although a player crew might be very nice, but that would require an almost complete redesign of eve to work in a fun way.

Probably a bit off topic, but it would be cool if your friends could board your ship and help run it. IE, allow your "crew of friends" to control your drone bay, one control your tank and weapons, another to control velocity and tackling gear, etc...
Possibly only available in capital ships...

but think about it this way.. all it takes it the pod pilot to turn off the gravity plating (or air) to stop them!!! -Siggi- ""PvP" isn't only direct person to person combat, it can be very indirect.
