That was a heart pounding moment for sure! It was amazing how quickly carrier pilots were mustering up to cyno in and help out, and i think we were seconds away from warping in with our bs support fleet. My finger was on the warp in button, waiting for the command, until hollywood movie style, at the last minute, someone shouted - "Mom's warped". Collective sigh of relief all round!
Can't imagine how a mom pilot feels in that situation, but very impressed at how calm you managed to stay.

I love Vels, but apparently, playing LOTR Online for a few weeks causes you to lose brain cells.
We had a similar conversation with Velios on TS..
Us: Err Vel man.. your using the mothership to cyno? Him: Closes blastdoors.

How so? D2 had equal numbers in dreads, unknown carrier/mom count and 1 titan, they had a heck of a lot more support and very BS heavy they also had the ability to resupply in system or in their capital 1 jump away.
They chose not to engage which could have been a smart or dumb move, only time will tell. Their would have been heavy losses for both sides if they had warped in and pressed the ebil siege button.
If someone wants to kill a tower (save their system or take one) they should have to put their balls to the wall or go home.
If they had engaged it would have been one for the record books and I sure as hell would have loved to have lost my Carrier there to be apart of the fight. I even insured my Carrier for that

Titans maybe I can understand the complaining about, MS's MAYBE. But why do I see so many people crying about Carriers / Dreads... 80 Capital ships, 0.0 is done for bla bla bla.
I don't build Carriers or Dreads myself, but I do recall going through the market and identifying that all the BPO's for the Ships and the stuff needed to build the ships is on the market. I thought well all this crying, maybe the materials to build these ships are rare and only found in 0.0. Well I looked and to my amazement they only use minerals. The same minerals used to build BS's, Cruisers, Frigs and such.
So instead of crying that this team has more or that team has more why don't you go build yourself some.
Yes you may have seen Axe get upset about log on traps, possibly even POS's setup without a mail to those that hold Sov, but you never heard us cry that -A- had more caps than us, more isk than us, or more t2 ships than us (Not saying all those are true, I honestly don't know), But point is still the same.
Stop crying about it and do somthing. If its give up, retreat then do it. If its fall back some, build a larger capital fleet then do it. If its quit Eve and join WoW then so be it.

Just to point somthing out (Seleene sry if you dont want this info out) when we killed the capital ship yard we barley had 80 people in our gang total from what I recall, and my guess is 25 caps. So I don't see how blob's, capitals are the issue.

Cap vs cap battles are a really exciting experience and are happening on a grand scale. Would have loved to have seen the movie of d2 and mc's cap fleet going at it while the fleets threw lead at each other otherhead.
I don't think it's the capital ships that are changing eve, i think its the fear that some folks get of losing them making them hesitant to engage in battle because they will suffer loss. Taking heavy losses while inflicting heavy losses doesn't seem an option to some folk.
Nice writeup as always seleene, sounds like fun up there

How many capitals you had ready in the area to join the fight at moment's notice if it would have been required? 60?

As I said we had 25 or so. We had zero ready to jump in and help other than maybe 1-2 stragglers and such. But while we are at it, sure we have 200 ready to jump in, and always have 200 ready so just leave.

I don't think its capital ships either, I think its people afraid to use there capital ships. It sucks to lose them, trust me I know, I have lost 1 dread and a 4-5bil isk carrier. But guess what I am in a new carrier and have a dread in the station waiting for me. You have to be willing to lose these ships to make them effective. They are no differant than BS's at the start of the game. I recall when a Maller was more dangerous than any other ship because everyone else was in frigs. Its the same thing now except some people are in Capitals while the others are in BS's.

The key battle, in my mind, was in C4C when we attacked with a dread heavy force and three motherships, stared into a D2 POS with four motherships and enough carriers and dreads to wreck our fleet, but we still pressed the siege button ... D2 blinked first, and their MOMs and carriers cyno'd out.
That sums up why MC are in BKG today and D2 are not in NOL. Iits a long way from over, but with the northern coalition disintegrating, and third parties seeing this turning into a landgrab, the week ahead looks to be interesting.

Edited by: Kalissa on 20/05/2007 12:08:11 As Seleene said in his main post Triumvirate and Terror in the System did launch an attack on OE-4HB. The attack had been planned a bit in advance, the fact this coincided with D2 having problems in LX was a bonus for us but it was not planned that way.
However we did not expect D2 to simply roll over in LX and concentrate pretty much everything in OE-4HB, a system to which they dont even have sovereignty.
All told we had a gang going of about 120-130 people, probably 25 of those were capitals (mainly dreads).
We entered into the system after jumping from our mid point and waited at a friendly pos to be given the "go". I can't honestly remember what local was at during this time but it was nothing for anyone to worry about. We warped to the first enemy pos to be attacked and as we came out of warp (but before entering siege) someone pointed out that local was "sky rocketing" I looked at local and I've never seen it go up that fast, fast enough for us all to be thinking "hey that friendly pos looks like a good place to goto right now" so we all aligned up and warped out back to safety.
By now all the capitals were safe so all the capital pilots joined the main TS op's room so we could listen into what was happening. A some point Janus set off his DD trying to nail our fleet but only 7 ships were destroyed by it. (the ones not aligned DUH) After this we warped in and out a few times trying to kill what we could but by now local had gone above 350, D2 had a Titan in system and outnumbered us by more than 2:1 (by that time our gang was at 150)
At some point during our warping in and out Seleene & Co made an appearance to make things a little more "interesting" for Razor, D2 & Associates
Hell of a night, even though personally all I did was use up a lot of jump fuel and didnt fire a shot all night. The capitals all returned safely and I logged for the night, though from what I've told later on we gained the upperhand and did quite a bit of damage, but I'll leave that for someone who was actually there to comment on. |
