Edited by: Tsanse Kinske on 21/05/2007 02:37:54 CCP's neighbors in Iceland were complaining about all the noise the hamster crews were making on those crazy wheels, so lately Valar gives most of them the night off and an extra ration of soothsayer. It's true.
Ok, not really. Here's the real story. Little known fact, despite its rich geothermal resources, electricity in Iceland is quite expensive and CCP saves upwards of 250 kr=na per month by regularly pulling the "Low Power" lever on their central server controls. The money saved is used to buy snazzy vintage lunchboxes for the administrative staff, and to pay for the emoticon on this very forum. It's true. No, really. * * * In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

Power down the nodes? Er, how? They pull the plug when they think nobody is on? This is almost as bad as my "Pause" feature in EVE one.

What your talking about is dynamic load balancing, and is something Eve does not have and can-not do.
The Dev's have said before that dynamic load balancing of nodes would be good (it could help greatly for fleet battles for example) but impossible without a massive rewrite of the heart of Eve, its not likely to happen.
If it did happen, one symptom would very likely be session changes happening seemingly at random without going through a gate or docking at a station.

You expect people to believe something as ridiculous as that, and disbelieve my 100% truthful, non-fabricated low power lever / lunchbox / carebear emoticon story? Well I'm sorry, people can see right through your nutty "London Theory". We all know London is just a myth made to scare little children at night. You should be ashamed sir. * * * In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

Iceland is probably one of the countries with cheapest electricity in the whole world
