If macro miners are such a problem in empire space, why not regulate how much ore can be mined per week per player? Marcro miners go 24/7, absolutely clearing entire systems of ore. Most player that mine high sec, only do so for a few hours a day (if that). I think this would help reduce flooding of the markets with cheap minerals and help level the playing field for real players that actually mine in empire for profit.
I just thought I'd throw this out there. I'm not sure how it'd be best implemented. A heavy fine for overmining, a permit system that counts down as you mine, mining licences or charters, flaging as hostile so gate/station guns open up on you. I dunno. I like the game, and hate to see the economy ruined by afk cheaters and isk farmers.
Thoughts, ideas, comments?

Many miners mine hours every day. Doing this would hurt legitimate players.

I'm sorry, I guess I didn't explain that very well. The idea is that if the belts are within national boarders of any faction, all the ore in the belts belongs to that faction. It is thier space after all. Wouldn't it make sence that they would regulate the amount of ore being removed to prevent complete depletion from overmining and to protect the local market prices? After all if prices go in the toilet, they get less tax revenue. And if there is nothing to mine, legit corporations leave the area. Unemployment goes up, industry would then have to ship in minerals at a higher cost from elsewhere, perhaps tipping the import export balance, ect, ect, ect. It's not a government's best interest for a small group of people to harvest the vast majority of resources all at once.

I would expect the limit to be reasonable. I myself mine quite a bit. Another effect would be to push people that want to mine larger amounts each week out of empire. SOME legit players might be hurt, but not many I suspect. I'm aiming for the macro-ers that mine without effort, for hours on end. In order to mine the same amount now, they'd have to buy more accounts, hopefully making them easier to track and identify.

/signed Small modifications: 1, regulation only in hi-sec. you got players to sort the rest of the galaxi. 2, limitation is per account not per character Mathematics: 23/7 mining covetor mines about 60 000 m3/hour = about 9.5 mil m3 Hulk mining 4 hours/day 90 000 m3/hour = about 2.5 mil m3 See a difference? "7 mil m3"
But there is one big problem. ATM low end mins trit, pye, mexallon, are overpriced even with macros mining huge amouth in empire and high-end mainly Zyd,Morphyte are well cheap is a weak expression. Zyd is the main reason why High-end is high-end. If we destroy macro miners before we can solve the lack of low-end then low-end prices will rise even more and 0.0 mining will be not worth the while.

You have Kernite and Omber in 0.0 don't you? If the minerals they produce are overpriced, mine them and leave the Morphite and Zydrine producing roids alone for now to increase the market demand for them. Lowsec and 0.0 have the ability to adjust the high end mineral market where macro mining in highsec means low end minerals don't fluctuate in price much.

M8 I can have a private mission belt with 1 mil units of omber and 250 000 units of kernite in a 1.0 - 0.8 system. 99.9% safe 100 % of ore respawns after DT for 1 week till mission expires and I have 100% yeld at station in system. So why should I go to 0.0 again?

I still like this idea, plus it would be a reason to move out of empire.

Then to beat this system, the macroers log off their account after they've hit their quota, and have another account ready to log in and continue. It's fixing a symptom, not the cause.

Maybe, but then they have to have more accounts. Less cost effective for them.

They need to make getting to an astroid field a require items to find and those locations expire or move every couple of hour.
I mean in space astroids are not stationary, they could easily add some sort of story.
An Item would be a probe, that could be used by anyone to find the easier roids, then require skill to use certain probes like mining crystals to find the better roids.
The probe could be "picked" up after you find a location, every system would have one at all times, it just wouldn't be in the same spot. You could still mine with a group since you can warp to gang members. You could still bookmark the location as long as the astroid didn't move ( perhaps a transmiter would provide you an eta till the next change ).
Something to cause finding a astroid to be easier then just warping to it. Something that will cause them to be unable to make an effective macro to mine roids. This would be something similar to the changes to what happen to exploration sites, where you could always fine an astroid field at least without a probe.
Granted it would mean an extra 5 minutes every couple of hours, since you would have to launch and find the current location, but it make it less "brainless" I think.

This could be circumvented - make miner agents in empire give you a mining pass or charter in exchange for LPs and ore perhaps - makes sense that mining actually needs a permit or licence of sorts beyond that of skill and ships.

I supposed Seiji's idea could work too.

Isn't the longterm CCP plan to move all asteroids belts into "exploration" type areas ?
My thought on this is, if this is the plan, will it prevent Macro Mining, can exploration be completed through macro usage ?

I know how to stop macro miners in empire!
Disallow anything larger than an afk industrial to mine in >0.5.
Oh, and make barges incapable of fitting cloaks, and BS unable to fit t2 miners. This fixes everything!
Free beer for those who mod my sig!
There is only one sig hijack that matters, the orginal and only member of the hijack squad. me. -Eris. ps Black russians are better then beer. I'll see your beer, and raise you a goat kebab -Tirg I'll take that pint and raise you two -Timmeh I bet 2 goats, 1 pint and a bag of slugs -Lordharold I grab it all, cook it/eat and drink it all and say thank you. -Pirlouit I'll call your bluff, and go all in on 3 locks of Hutch's hair. -Incognus I'll see that bet, depending on where the hair came from. -Rauth *pushes the other mods out of the way* Mmmm, bree - Karass Bree & goat kebabs!!! Once a belt is found, macro miners can just set "auto mine" again. Exploration only belts will probably slow them down a bit though.
I think the only way to really curb macro miners it to make roids a lot more rare, or respawn slower, or make mining harder to solo/afk. If players actually had to fight over minerals, the macro miners would be more obvious. Active players would regain the edge.
I still think permits to limit high sec mining would limit the damage macro miners can do to the market.

I am not sure, we are small corporation and I am the one of miner specialist other one are for invention, built up, fight atc. It is time when I mine much and time when not, I do not agree with restriction of amout whot one char can mine.... I will rather find the belt than have restriction of this....

Potentially you could restrict the use of certain ships and modules, depending on sec status of the system. A procurer could be outlawed from approaching mapped asteroid belts in 0.9 or above. A hulk outlawed in 0.6 and above. And similar system for mining modules, you can have a deep core mining laser on your osprey in 1.0, but if you turn it on, concord come and confiscate it and fine you, the same as any other contraband. If it must be allowed in high sec, have a permit system, just as most countries do these days for firearms. If you are found in possession of one, show your permit (via trade with an NPC, which will give it back afterwards) and you may continue.
Unless macro's are much more sophisticated at detecting events than I realise.
