Did everyone go total nutcase here? Im sorry, but even I, with only 2 years total in eve know that eve quiets down during summer. Its a very well known fact you either learn by playing yourself during any previous sunmer or from observing the market.
The t3 rebalance looks freakin awesome btw.
Eve is awesome. Im gonna play now...sad to see so much whining on the forums. Especially the entitled whining |

Yes, the Summer has been blamed for dipping numbers as people are on vacation. And the Fall is also blamed for dipping numbers because, well, students are back in school. Winter is blamed for dipping numbers because it's typically the holidays. And Spring, well, I don't recall Spring ever being blamed. But wouldn't surprise me if it has in the past. |

Nah, you guys are failing, not eve. I said it in another post already, but worth repeating here. In our corp we have 10 year old pvp vets, 1 week old noobs. We don't lose a single player, everyone is dying to log in when done with RL. We are having tons of fun.
I don't know why you guys are fed up with the game, I only read a few of the whine posts here, but the 2 reactions after mine just got me baffled. How you are not having fun playing this game with endless depth and strategical and tactical opportunities to exploit in beautiful looking space ships is a mystery to me.
I know the t3 whines. I know the citadel whines. But in the communities I hang out in I only see enthusiasm to make use of changes in the game. Sure, there is critique from vets too, that CCP sometimes really makes some bad changes. But all understand this is a fact of life in the universe. People make mistakes, companies make mistakes. CCP too. In contrary to most other companies however CCP brings in a player council, even gathers a fkn custom group of players to discuss a change about 1 ship class lol.
On top of that we have the tickets we can make and constructive criticism we can make on particular dev forum posts. Or....instead of constructive.....whine like a pathetic underclass of mentally less developed cavemen. But hey, each his style.

I personally don't care about the changes. Eve is sandbox and I play by my own rules instead of theirs.
Having said that, I've never flown a T3. I use T1 cruisers in low sec/ anomalies and T2 HAC in L4s.
People have always whined from the day one. I swear I saw some people swore that Eve would close down in few years back in 2004. And here we are in 2017. |

July-september seem to have the lowest activity since a few years, you could see this trend even in 2009 but it wasn't as prominent back then. I think it's a sign of aging player base, people take their kids and go visit grandparents, take summer jobs and do other interesting stuff.

Player count always goes down in the summer with the lowest numbers traditionally in the early fall.
The bigger issue to me is that we are only 6-9 months after big player counts with the introduction of Omega clones. All of that bump is gone.
When does CCP leadership admit to themselves they are doing something wrong.
Hint: Rebalancing ships and modules is not going to fix player counts.

Summer is when people logged in drops. With the nice weather and free time and vacations, etc.

Never done any of this stuff, the faction thing is just screen clutter, have no idea what it means. I explore, do a bit of ratting in the badlands (null/low), chase exotic ores in wormholes, manufacture then market stuff, Planetary Interaction and do a lot of hi-sec mining when I get so shot to pieces there's nothing left in the hangars to fly. Four years in this beautiful game, yes, it can get to be a pain but that's usually due to me being stupid again. CCP keeps changing stuff but that just means I have to adapt to yet another new twist, not a problem.

Really? If you rat for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week and make just 30 million/hour you should have way more than enough to PLEX your account.

Meh... EVE has been "dying" for years and years now, and it will continue to do so. It's nothing new. Dispite CCPs constant tweaking of the NPE, it never managed to attract new players in any significant number, and the old playerbase is shrinking slowly but steadily. Everybody aside the few, core "fanatics" can see that... but hey, nothing lasts forever.

Skill injectors are very expensive. If you have truly played eve, you know its not about how expensive or big of a ship you can fly, but how good you are in piloting it. A kick in the teeth for vets? No way! Vets can destroy more idiots injecting themselves into ships they cant fly. And they have to invest heavily for it.
A high demand for plex means a higher price. Thats how our player driven market works.
In short, youre saying you dont like the mechanics like they always have been. Or its just whines without foundation because somehow your life is so comfortable that you have time to get frustrated over space pixels. |

No, not at all!
We're getting old with EVE. New generations want more than just a game to aim and shoot. People want immersion, something EVE can not do anymore - it was designed for a particular generation.
EVE needs to broaden its horizons.
Many former players find the game 'repetitive' and it is, in fact. The new ones do not accompany the extremely expensive market of ships, etc. The wars ruin new players who try to make a minimum to stay in the game. The older ones just feel some fun doing wars - but the situation these older ones did 'ISK' in game was different from the current situation.
CCP is not sensitive to this. Never was. CCP needs the new, new ideas - without fear...
It's time to changes... |

The implementation of alpha clones was the last good hope and attempt at halting decreasing numbers. But it was just a temporary solution. The novelty's worn off.
At this rate, Eve is becoming a game only for the hardest of fanboys. And this can be good or bad, depending on who you ask. But whether you agree or disagree with the direction of Eve, what we are seeing is the logical outcome to the decisions that have been made. This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone.

I think CCP needed a bit more story for early gameplay before they released Alpha clones.
Right now they have the tutorial (with voice acting) that was pretty decent. Then they funnel you to career agents which have missions without voice acting but still have an ordered plot. Then you have the SOE epic arc which is a little harder to find out about but still available.
Then you're kind of left hanging. It becomes create your own content. the missions are random and don't really follow any kind of story.
I think CCP would be wise to add more epic arcs. LOTS more epic arcs. Preferably with voice content. There should be triggers that cause you to get a message in your mail telling you that an agent wants to give start you off on a mission so you don't have to search for them.
The goal with this is to get players to have a goal to work towards early on... getting to the end of the story told by the epic arcs. This would simply provide a longer period of time where they're engaged in the game and exposed to the other more "permanent" parts of eve. They'd also be playing through an enjoyable story while they train skills.
It may be different for others... but for me there was a certain point in the game where I stopped feeling extremely overwhelmed by the game. I think a bit more immersive "hand holding" through epic arcs that teach you the lore while you learn through playing would be good.
This wouldn't fundamentally change the game in any way. It would just give new players more of what they're used to from many other MMO's so they can do that while learning how to adapt to the particularities of EVE. |

My take is the average EVE player is a complainer and whiner.
Take Fozzie sov and fatigue. People complained about the big blue donut. So CCP changes sov and jump mechanics and the big blue donut breaks up or is fractured....and yet the typical Eve player whines and cries like a little *****.

the typical eve player doesn't even make it to null sec due to being afraid to dive off the cliff into the main game. which means ccp has got a lot of work to do in order to educate new players about null sec.

Honestly? EVE needs a restart. With almost 14 years of existing, CCP made quite some dubious decisions and cut quite some content out of the game. However, the bone fragments still lie EVERYWHERE, from old tutorial leftovers to pile of promotion items. Add big players from 2003 still kicking, capable of shorting EVERYONE on the market and immune to any kind of fluctuations, stupid steps like seeding Datacores to FW agents, thus murdering R&D, whole FW contest system, bear as* err, horribly specific tags for LP shopsGǪ all adds up.
Why do this, you ask? Why throw everything down the drain? 1)Because main EVE problem is that everyone knows it's problems of: 2)Being rigged by and in favor of old players sitting on the ISK/T2 BPO/Loot piles. No matter how many times you will repeat "T2 bpos don't affect market that much", big guys have them and no matter how hard you'll try, you can't beat the guy with T2 bpo in the game of competition. He will be shorting you like crazy with stock he obtained during YEARS of preparations and he will gut you like a fish. And, with established trade hubs small guy got nothing to do but sell the stuff on the big trade hub since it takes hundreds of manufacturers to support another hub which could even remotely be worth considering. There is no such thing as local exchange rate, Jita -/+ everything. 3)Some people actually WANT to leave EVE forever. But they fell in hoarder trap and as long as game stands, there is no way out for them. 4)Old players still have their advantages of knowing the game thorough and through. As a result, blowing up the whole economy won't destroy the structure of said economy because old players know how to the olde ship. 5)Restart allows to take some long needed, but too damn bold tweaks, starting from completion of module tiericide (And finally solving navy/deadspace/officer module problem of first being outright bad in many cases and last ones being dubious in many categories for sheer force of way more available Deadspace modules) to rewamp of time/resources on literally every BP around. 6)Restart actually allows you to try out some bold moves after announcing of programmed death. For example, CCP may try some draft ideas on incursion through some "Last Stand against Drifters" event or cash out on some researches made after, for example, making JIta -1.0 system in one happy day. WIthout announcements. Because Grrr Drifters are made to be sudden and deadly.

Yes, because having all your previous work wiped out is always so awesome.

CCP please stop nerfing stuff to the ground. If something is overpowered, nerf it half way and buff the rest half way. Don't just nerf something into the ground, so much that it makes the thing that you nerfed perform worse than everything else. And when you nerf something, offer to reimburse everyone of all skillpoints that are trained into the thing that you are nerfing. Keep nerfing stuff and people will no longer want to skill or play the game. Fk you ccp! |

you know that T2 BPOs have a tiny share of the whole T2 market volume? From a T2 large gun BPO you build like 800 items/month. Now, look at the total volume sold. Command Ship BPO gives you like 20 ships/month. Look at the volume sold in jita. 30 sabres per month or what, from a Sabre BPO. Inventors laugh at you.
T2 will give some profit to lazy people like me, yet the market is controlled (and destroyed) by the huge swarms of inventors. Remove T2 BPO and you know what, nothing will change, except you removed some legacy prestige special items many people play this game for, as long term goals. |

Everything is too expensive for people to not give a toss if they lose it , battleship pvp is long long gone it's insanely expensive to ask someone to grind for 4 hours to buy a ship and fittings that they might lose in 5 minutes . The fun is gradually being sucked out of Eve while they ring every last dollar / euro / pound they can from the game . CCP needs to take a long hard look at the gameplay fundamentals and make the game fun to play and items cheap to buy , they say it is similar to a real world economy in-game ...well most real world economies are nearly or have gone bust in real life so it's definately mirroring that respect !
The numbers say everything atm , people logged in are the lowest we've all seen for a long time , the game is stagnant which is a huge shame as it can be so much fun to play when you get those good fights we all so desperately look for . I'm predicting a gradual dwindle down of numbers as plex gets more and more expensive and the playerbase says f**k to grinding more and more .

no, its because there are too many crabs with too much ISK in eve and everyone of them wants PLEX (you are one of them). High demand drives the price up. |

You are, in part, correct, it was actually the sp farmers who abused the now illegal, and as yet unfixed skill point farming. These players drove plex prices up, and abused an overly long skill queue's on accounts that reverted to alpha yet retained omega length. It is speculated some of these same offenders then used illicit gains to further damage the economy by receiving massive amounts of concord ships, handed out to ticket holding accounts at fan-fest, which injected untold amounts of wealth into an already destabilized economy. The offenders received a strong reprimand, so don't worry!
Combined with the many perceived faults of recent changes, real or imagined, and growing discontent among the player base, we see the current decline in population. However rest assured it is not as bad as it seems! I say this because it is actually much worse, the amount of wealth generated by the 1% of 1% has further been used to purchase even more characters from those exiting with the rats. Wait do space-rats do that? Well if they don't they should because it would just be horrible if they drowned! or er suffocated! |

Really? They drove PLEX prices up? And why are prices still high? Wait...it is the conspiracy to corner the market on PLEX right?
You do know that CCP responded to the claims that ghost trainers would be getting those CONCORD ships take away and any illicit ISK from the sale of such ships would also be confiscated...right?

Has it occurred to anyone that some of us just don't have the time for video games? Or that in the rare occasions that we do, we connect with our circle of friends who also have limited time and opt to play something else with said time? Maybe, just maybe, we prioritize our time and think it would be better spent in the yard. Every time this topic comes up, it's always attributed to some grandiose conspiracy theory when there is typically a simple answer. My favorite and, the most predictable explanation to get thrown out there, is the "seasonal" theory. Next comes Plex prices. Every. Damn. Time. Never change, GD. Also, my Hydrangeas look fabulous!

In actuality that bug drove plex prices down.
You see... the skill farmers existed before Alpha Clones became a thing. The reason is simple... they could take an account with 3 toons farm skill points off of one and run PI off of all of them. That would be slightly less than 4 skill extractors worth of sp for the account.
So... the math:
expense: skill extractor = 360m isk x 4 = 1.44b isk 500 plex (for the account = 1.6b isk
total 3.04b
revenue: skill injector = 775m x 4 = 3.1b
So you see how close they are? The skill farming pays for the account.
The PI revenue is all profit.
What the bug caused was to allow people to skip out on the 1.6b isk per account cost in plex to skill up the character who was SP training.
Skill point farming is COMPLETELY legal... as long as you pay for the time you are using to farm SP (by using PLEX or by subbing). The "illegal" part was using alpha clones to SP farm... not sp farming itself.
And since they were NOT using PLEX... the demand for plex was lowered, not raised. And a lower demand causes plex prices to go down, not up. |

Nice write up.
I don't disagree with much. My only point of contention is this is not the only effect going on in the market. So, you could have two countervailing effects, the one you noted above, and another that goes in the opposite direction (raises PLEX prices) which one dominates....v0v

To many drawbacks for new players to be invested in the game.
1. Miner bumping. More often than not the miners bumped are new players. Walk a mile in their shoes. You join Eve Online, You're not sure about any of the game mechanics but the one thing you are sure of is you need ISK. Mining is easy to setup but time consuming so they invest in mining believing this is the path to riches. They stick it out and invest the time and money until they get a mining ship that cost 200Million plus ISK. Then out of the blue someone bumps their many hours of investment in a few secs with ship that cost 1Million or less isk. They feel like they have been kicked back to square one as they have spent every ISK they have to get the ship. Its not that miner bumping is wrong. Its the fact that a ship that cost 1Million or less ISK can ruin them in a matter of seconds. They should buff mining ships defense without messing up mining yield to allow concord to respond unless their has been a war dec. In what Universe should a ship that cost 200M plus ISK being killed by a ship that cost 1M ISK or less realistic. Its only PvP if both parties can defend their ships. Other than that its just wrong.
2. Mission running. You run the same few missions over and over and over. for very little pay until you reach level 4 anyway. Lets say they are Caldari and have been running missions for a while, the adverse standing they're going to get with the Minmatar and Gallente. will be a hindrance if they decide they want to run missions for the other factions to get some of their gear. Or if they start doing trade and other things. They are polly going to get shot down by the Gallente or Minmatar because their not aware that the negative standings will make this happen. Simple solution has been the same for years. reduce the negative standing derived from running missions and provide more missions that you can repair your standing with the other factions in a more reasonable amount of time.
I could go on and list many other things but I don't have time.
Personally, I feel that the PvE side of Eve has been greatly neglected. Many new players become invested in the PvE side of the game and it should be supported as much as the PvP side of the game I think if the negative standings could be managed by players with less time invested in doing so, you would see more players going to PvP faster. Like FW other PvP activities.
I like to trade, mine, invent , produce , run exploration in WHs, NS, LS and would definitely do FW if there was a way to repair my standings from doing that activity in a more timely manner. The negative standing that I would get from FW would be a hugh drawback from doing all the other activities I like to do in Eve.
I think the way negative standings are set up is very restrictive to variety in the game as it stands now. This is my humble opinion.
So what do you all think? How can we make it better for the new players and retain them?

This |
