Edited by: Riley Craven on 22/05/2007 04:34:16 Hi everyone, I am a bit new to this area of the forums as I tend to frequent the Features and Ideas and Eve General abit more than here. In any case I have been a long time vet of Eve. Done just about everything that I can that I havent been limited to in terms of SP.
Moving along, I was reading a thread in this forum about income from ice mining vs income from regular mining. There was lots of numbers thrown around, but personally I have never really been one for numbers, to me results are what matters.
To give you an example, I ratted a good bit in my 0.0 days back when I was in Bob. I got curious one day and decided to save my loot. Needless to say I learned a good bit from saving all that loot up about how the spawns work and loot tables and everything else.
Anyway, I can be long winded a bit, but here is my point. I would like help in a study of all possible income streams in Eve currently to make a fair comparison. I would like to do this across at least 2 regions from the north and 2 from the south along with myself doing research in empire. The goal is to do practical testing as close to real world results as much as possible to at least try to put to rest some myths about some things in Eve. Note: this doesnt include Trading because I have always thought that player trade is a bit in a world of its own and is hard to measure compared to more control things like ratting etc. So if you would like to help in this study in any way please pipe up. Please also note I do realize that the market is player driven and that prices do change drastically over time, but I plan to make a note of that in the study as well.
Help includes: Coming up with ways to test the income streams Performing tests or any other comments you may have about this plan.
Cheers

I only have one thing to add, and that's that there's going to be a number of income streams that require little (moon mining, some trading) or no (IPOs) time investment.
So whatever method and you use to calculate the income streams, you'll need to factor in capability for time == zero. Or at least, time == negligable.

I would not throw moonmining into 'zero time' activity. Granted, now when freighters can load and unload corp hangars it's a lot less time intencive but somebody has still to online and offline those silos and reactors. While moonmining itself can be as low as approx 30 minutes per week (small tower, just mining, dont need to haul far) it is very rare to earn profit with just moonmining.
As one of sources of isk it would be reasonable to consider higher end missions also. There is usually few threads about those (0.0 vs missions) in first 5 or so pages of 'missions' forum section.

I am not trying to be harsh, but with this statement, your results will be meaningless.
You *must* have a numerical basis or your conclusions are worthless. Grab a mining guide and a calculator long before you dispatch the Hulk to the belt. Once you have the right numbers as a basis, then actually mine for a bit and compare expected return to actual return--early roid pops, forgetting to jet in time so you lose a cycle's worth of ore, rats aggroing on your drones, etc., etc. It's fine for the real-world numbers to not match up to the theoretical ones, but to eschew theory altogether means that you're leaving yourself open to a LOT of per-person variation (ratting in a Raven vs. ratting in a Scorpion vs. ratting in an officer-fitted Machariel) that you won't even be able to detect.
