It's an immersion breaker of course. My chars aren't supposed to be me, so if the chars use my voice it's a bit anti-roleplay and with female chars, really an rp killer.
Although I am not really roleplaying hardcore like the so-called roleplayers, I understand games like this as roleplay games. That's why I start to play them in the first place. If I create a char and enter the gameworld, I create a virtual person that is going to discover that virtual world. I'm giving this character some life and sharing his experiences with him.
That's how I play my chars, especially if I like them. So if I create a female char, a girl, then I see her as a girl ! That isn't me, I only steer her to this world, give her a virtual life and share the experiences with her.
That's why I also consider the question of other players that ask me, if I am really a girl, as an immersion breaker. If I talk to random people in the gameworld, they are talking to my char, not to me, so asking my female char, if she is really a girl, is kind of an insult ! If a stranger asks this, I think he's a nub ! I never answer that clearly, except the one, who asks, is a friend.
Like I said my chars aren't me, I give them some virtual life, steer them through the world, share their experiences, which is quite interesting and if I steer my female char through the world, then she is a 'she' and I want her to be treated that way. I see and treat her myself as a 'she'. That's the whole reason why I made her female in the first place !
Ok, in daily pvp life with teamspeak and my 2 male pvp mains, I don't care that much. Then I'm usually only in I-want-to-kick-butts-mode. But in the more silent moments it's like I said before.
P.S.: I've played several games and I see/treat/play my female chars as if they are females, although I block, if someone tries to date me. Then I run away, because I have more important stuff to do or so. The idea that another male gets some feelings, because my little char looks hot and I play her too well, makes me a bit afraid.
