I've just nominated EVE in several categories in the International Game Developers' Association Developers' Choice Awards.
http://www.igda.org/awards/nominations.htm
Registration as a developer is free (how many of us haven't tried designing a game?), and the nominations are easy after that.

<-- paid up member (smarmy git with existing credits on a MOG )
The IGDA Awards are often quite whacky in terms of what they go for in comparison to "gamers" choices... the voting process, wide ranging randomised selection from eligible members, means you get a very very wide "audience" range.
Personally I think that makes the awars that much more "disstinctive".
Good luck to CCP.
( Must remember to check the navgtr nominations for this year and next also... although less prestigous as its "Only" the reviewers choices)

For all the heaps of unfettered forum pain we seem to dump on the devs I found myself nominating Eve in a number of categories as well.
From one dev to another, I feel good recognizing EVE as outstanding in a number of different categories.
Good job guys, you deserve it.

nominations are good... however lets see or remind one thing...
personally I don't receive anything beside paying my bill to be able to play a internet game called EVE...
However there is alot of work to do and bugs to fix and implementation methods that require change...
I just wonder if exist some kind of nomination for bug fixing and to complete a game that is known as EVE and comercially advertised around 7 or 8 months... where beside all this time on the road and in the shop shelfs still misses the most of the things advertised.
But I'm not against about any nomination that EVE or EVE team may be included... this is just a reminder that probably no more than 40% of the game is operational... so there is alot of work to do and bugs to fix... spite the full bill.
Take care.

Just to let you know the "official"(registered) member nomination notices went out from IGDA today.
Nominations submitted for:
"Excellence in Programming" - sub discipline - "Graphics"
Excellence in Visual Arts - sub discipline - "Modelling"
Excellence in Writing - sub discipline - "Plot Construction".
Just fyi.

Name me a single MOG that has had such a rich and well constructed backstory, plot and deeply characterised "history" constructed for it?
Indeed name a single player game with similar - i bet you any you do probably were either nominated in turn themselves or won the awards itself.
Its way too easy to "diss" an entire game via a glance at the surface, or to obscure the great component parts simply because they weren't melded together very well.

Morkt - its Falzone - the man who robbed his corp and now tries to trick enemies into shooting at him in Empire space AFTER he has just changed Corp... Does he really need a serious answers?
Good luck EVE for all those awards... maybe some fame will bring some new players in

Morkt people like him wont be happy till the game is an online spaceship version of counterstrike. They dont care about roleplaying, and intricate storylines, and real structure. They've been raised in a market of simple FPS games, and want to carry on the blood bath that these games provide.
To Falzone - f' off if thats your attitude.

Any? Lord, Hobbes is probably bribing Billing into revealing my RL address, but i'll still be voting FOR. If you don't think they should get ANYTHING, why are you hear? And if you don't like the imagery, why is it in your sig? Vote for what is done *well.* The protest vote is when they get awards FOR certain things (i believe it to be a when, not if, if there is any sanity in the universe) and noticably DO NOT get mention in other areas. Hopefully an indicator they will listen to!

Construction != execution. Or even interacivity. Again, omission will carry the message. The background's depth and detail are unmatched.. they are also untouchable and static but that's another category. See?
If you do not give honest credit and praise where it is due, how can your criticism carry any weight?

This maked me laugh, the number of posts that warrant a GM's response that goes ignored.
Yet as soon as someone is giving praise the GM's jump all over it ??
Why dont we have a sticky for the number of people unhappy with the proposed changes to the missiles? or other related issues? |

And if people would learn that chaos isnt TQ and that just because its on chaos doesnt mean its coming to TQ, then we'd all be fine and dandy, but some fools like to scream and shout and the rest jump on the bandwagon and think its great to shout and scream.
Thats why they get ignored.
I do recall TomB saying that the missile changes on Chaos will NOT be coming to TQ in the current state theyre in.

Ok Toulak, feel free to pick fault with my reply, but the principle stands on numerous other topics.

"...well constructed backstory, plot and deeply characterised "history" constructed for it?..."
WHAT are u talking about????
what has the good text has to do with the game? Have u ever saw those plots happening in the game? Have u ever saw or noticed those incidents in the game? Have u ever participated or had u ever felt affected by them?
NO!
Sure I don't think so! ... In did are good texts and a plots... worth to be publicated in a book... but (huge) BUT!!!! Sorry!... Afects NOTHING in the game play... therefore its just a good bla-bla-bla with very small impact... (beside I'm EVE player too and I feel what those statments affect me! ... just nothing).
In fact I dont know why someone lose their time creating such good texts and fictional plots if that can't be replicate neither players can participar as actors in the game... so for this game those plots are just for someone to justify their job...
Interaction is need for your statment become true :)
Like for example ... War amarr against whatever and whatever against Gallente ... such thing its just a fairytale coz in reality players don't feel neither are affected by that text or statment...
Beside majoraty of corps are a mix of races would be funny if that would affect one day

Erm, no GM has replied to this thread. One forum mod and a dev has. But nice that you could stop by and share your cynicism.

From a developers standpoint CCP has done an amazing job with eve.
From a players standpoint they have made some mistakes and are slow to keep the content flowing.
But...all in all CCP has an amazing project going here and hopefully they are learning and growing as is their game.
Even though I've cancelled my accounts and will be leaving all that is eve in the next few days, I still feel that CCP has done a fantastic job in creating such an expansive world and they deserve the credit for all their hard work.
Good luck CCP and thank you for the 8 months of enjoyment you gave to me. =)

They have indeed done an amazing amount of work, and the quality of some elements is outstanding.
Yes, we can all get dragged back into the problems, but that still seems to ignore the achievements. Credit is absolutely due for the work they have achieved.
The other problems are different issues, and I don't think I have found as deep a story since Halflife, and quite probably Halflife 2 will be the next deepest equivalent.
Many games do set a good back-picture of history, but still just look at the number of articles and short-stories that have been out over the past years to examplify elements of the story and history. Its effort that others haven't done.

SWG ?!!!?
The most horrible MMORPG ever?!? You cant be serious. SWG was the most horrible, unready for release POS ever released on the MMORPG market. No other game has been so worthless. SWG is such a timesink it makes EVE look fast. SWG indeed.
