I started playing six weeks ago. I'm in an NPC corp.
I have a retriever and mine in a 0.6 system for hours on end without seeing any other PCs. I have a 2nd account (5 weeks old) that I use to haul with.
I have had my jetcan sacked once or twice when I was first starting out and was being careless. Since then I dropped a couple GSC's and am 100% safe from ore theives.
Point: there is nothing wrong with high sec mining in my experience. Additionally, all new players do not immediately go to big corps.
People shouldnt speak for others when they are talking about of their asses.
HEY EVERYONE! LOOK! A MACROMINER!
Do you know WTF is a MACROMINER? The fact that the guy mines in a retriever for hours in high sec. does not make him a macrominer!! How closed and narrowminded can you be?!?!?!!!?!?!??!
Ghee, everyone here could teach your newbies better, even the pirates that reply to these threads could help them mine safely more than you, if that is your attitude.
Grow a pair and stop *****ing like a kid. How old are you? _______________________________________________ The ShadowMaster -

This game has never been newbie friendly, but its not so much the games fault as much as it is the players. Many would rather pick on the new guy than help him get settled, but one can understand why by looking at the makeup of most pirate characters. The people behind these characters are generally bitter about how others have treated them in the real world, and take it out in a game or environment where they've gained some leverage over others.
Its sad, the best thing to do is just ignore them and **** them off further. The lack of attention makes their outbursts meaningless, and rubs raw their insecurities.

Please don't get upset at me, but a "macrominer" is someone who uses a macro program to run their eve account while they are afk. They typically stay online 24/7 except for downtime and many of them have multiple accounts running all at the same time.
Another term you should know is "ore-farmer" or "mineral-farmer", those are groups of people (usually people from low-income countries, and typically young children who are paid very small amounts of US $) who operate one or more mining ship and hauler accounts. These are also usually operated 24/7 except for downtime.
Please do not confuse macro-miners and farmers with real life eve players who like to mine alot and are actually sitting at thier keyboard with thier primary account for several hours at a time. I myself did not know what people meant by "macrominer" until someone explained it to me. I thought the term refered to anyone who mined alot.

So... by playing EVE I'm supporting child slavery in indonesia? Great, now I HAVE to quit.

I used to be a player who mines a LOT. Thing is, it became unprofitable when finally I was getting robbed so frequently that it actually became impossible for me to do anything without a 10 man defensive team, which also isn't worth paying for unless I have at least 6 barge miners and 2 or 3 haulers working with me. The griefing is constantly under new names so it's not really something I can report to CCP in a petition, because the people doing it know all the rules through and through, and pretty much have CCP on their knees in a leash and colla at this point.
Despite your half-witted condescending remarks, I respect your attempt to show off the idea in this thread that real world exploitation is taking place through EVE in much similar ways that it takes place inside EVE. Many people think it's just some anonymous safe place to act like a bastard and be mean to people, but as you have just explained screwing someone over could actually potentially lead to real life deaths.
I guess CCP should do something about that, if they would like to keep from violating international laws, and exploiting child slave labor systems. Like.... ban indonesia, china, taiwan, viet nam, korea, and singapore? Would that about cover it?

What is actually sad is that when I started a couple of years ago, the community was only half the size it is now and many were actually willing to help a new player in Empire to get started. Now it appears that the age bracket of some players has reached into the creche due to some radical changes (nerfs) in the game that have mostly come about due to the actions of childish ones to begin with. Much of this nerfing is bringing the age range of players down further and they are the primary ones calling for even more nerfs.
I agree that this game has never been wholesale newbie friendly, more neutral unless territorial lines were crossed. Lately it has actually become newbie hostile and noob baiting has pretty much become an accepted sport.
It's akin to bullying and they do it simply "because they can". Many wouldn't stand a hope in hell in lowsec and wouldn't dream of venturing into 0.0 where they could actually meet some real competition. Against a feeble noob in a rookie ship though, they think they are gods and it's just another entry on the killboard for their e-peen. Mercs in Empire are giving the lowsec Mercs a bad name. Lowsec Mercs (those are the real ones) hunt pirates, highsec Mercs are pirates.
I'd love to see some of the lowsec Mercs wardec the highsec ones to show them how real players fight. Maybe we can see an end to this playground bullying. Also a little bloodshed into the bargain
