No, this is not which will win in a fight. I'm posting because I've come to a point in my training where I would like some outside views on.
I've been training to fly the Megathron since I've started (about 100k waisted sp) and can fly a fully t2 fitted megathron (t2 Ogres too) with all the gunnery skills at V (besides Blaster Spec which is at 4) and the armour skills at 4/5. Should I take the plunge and train BS V along with the other relevant skills or start training for the Eos/Astarte? |

Edited by: Sokratesz on 29/05/2007 04:55:46 Battleship 5 is the setup-up to capitals and with good armour, engineering and droneskills a thanatos / moros will be very powerful.
There is more to a carrier than fighters, an also the moros is a deadly tool with T2 heavy drones. Command ships are nice, but more of a fleet niche.

I personally would go for a Command Ship. The logic I use is, train for something fun so you can use it while you train BS 5. I trained for the Absolution and Damnation, so that while I was training BS 5 I had something fun to fly around. ----------- Amarr- If you like to handicap yourself before the fight begins, then we may accomodate your needs surprisingly well. |

Don't forget that BS 5 on a megathron is another 'free' dmg and trcking bonus .. mjam..
The command ships are nice, you'll want tech II medium rails too if you don't have that already .. other than that it's just learning a bunch of spaceship skills really if you're specced like that.

It kinda depends on what you spend your life doing - unless you're part of an alliance with territorial interests, battleships will get less frequent use than command ships in 0.0 due to the prevalence of smaller (read: cruiser-sized or smaller) ships. However, if you go outlaw at any point, battleships will be your meat and two veg... [.CR.]

carrier is absolute matter of taste, no idea why u keep recommending it. besides, his post does not say he wants either a CS or a CA. he is asking if he shall go for a CS or max out his BS even further.
even though i like CS in this case id recommened finishing BS and then go for the CS while having fun with the BS.
he will have medium TII turrets since he has large TII turrets. threy are prerequisite, no?
well actually id prolly make it dependant on how long training for each takes and go with the shorter one.

Thing is CS takes BC 5 which is nearly a months worth. Add in another month or two of skill speccing (command ships lvl 5) and stuff, and by the time youre in one comfortably, you could be in a carrier, too.

I can fly both Gallente BS and CS to their near full potential (CS 4, BS5 soon) and all I will say is If you want to roam around with gangs, get a CS. If you want to solo, get either, but the eos will pwn the mega / domi / hyp at soloing (not versus, but catching targets) --- My sig has gone into exile

Comparing BS lvl 5 to training for command ships is like comparing a skiff to a hulk... its sort of the same except its not :)
I bet command ships is a bigger and longer path to train for than dreadnaughts would be for you. The pre. reqs include HAC's (Cruiser 5 and assault ships lvl 4), Logistics ships (with reqs like long range targeting lvl 5), atleast a couple of million SP in leadership, all in all probably over 100 days of training to reach a point where you can use all aspects of ONE class of command ships. Look at the skill requirements on EOS and Warfare links and do the math, i think you will be surprised how long you have to train before you get into the ship and can really use it. And i didnt even add the training need to use a warfare link implant, those a VERY nice as well :)
I say get BS lvl 5, you will train that anyway eventually, then go for HAC's or something like that, it will be more fun in the long run... after HAC's look for command ships again.

I'm in a very similar posistion, I have just finnished T2 Ogres and interfacing 5 for my mega (Have T2 Blasters Already). I have choosen to train BS 5 next tho for a few reasons.
1) I'm a DPS junkie and the thought of some extra pwnage makes me drew! 2) BS 5 will be needed for T2 Battleships 3) Usefull for the inevitable step of getting a Capital 3)I love my Mega

I have Heavy Blaster spec 4, med blaster spec 5, command 5 and BS 5 along with all the other associated stuff.
There really isn't much in it generally, both are highly capable, don't forget as someone mentioned above, it's possible you'll need both trained well for T2 battleships

Command ships are enjoyable and allow for gang modules fitting where as battleships don't, Ofcourse battleships hurt things rather nicely but they are slower. Basically if you want big guns and to be able to insure your ship go battleship. If you want a faster agile jack of all trades thats uninsurable then go command ship. Oh and command ships at just as hard to train for as a dread so thats a big time sink.

I'd go for the mega, as you're so close, you'll probably need less training time than for a CS. (Assuming as you said, trained for a mega since you started, thus possibly skipping warfare skills, BC V etc.)
CSs are great for gangs, but the dmg of a mega probably is a bit better especially with the tracking n all. Better range too, prolly a worse tank, but not as huge of a difference as you might think, starting hitpoints, slot-number of a BS, and the large vs medium gear compensates for the increased resists and such of the CS.
Mega's also going to be cheaper, great insurance coverage, widely available, ability to build it yourself even cheaper etc.

Battleship V over Command Ship.
BS is still better than a command ship in PVE. My domi's drones take down a BS faster than my Astarte can, although to be fair my med rail skills are only fair. Astarte drone bay is too small for Lv4s IMO. you really need heavy drones.
CS may be nice in PVP but as it's T2 there's no insurance to speak of so best to use a BS for that too unless your rich. Domi or something.
Once you have BS V then you can think about either CS or Carrier/Dread as your next move. I went CS because I don't have the income to go down the Carrier road.
Or if you wanna get into Plexs (eg. cosmos) BC can be used where BS cannot.

Edited by: Misanth on 29/05/2007 16:35:56 Each to his own.. I trained BS 5 while having a break from EVE, long time ago, but since I came back I've only used battlecruisers, recons and lately command ships.
I often felt I wished I trained bc 5 instead of bs 5 as I would've had a crapload of more use (and fun) in the Absolution vs the battleships (I only use battleships on the test server, totally useless ships for me nowadays).
But I don't intend to get a capital ship soon, perhaps not ever. I like the idea of roaming around in a small gang and bust camps with a bunch of friends. And for ratting the command ship isn't worse than having bs 5.
The only benefits I can think of, regarding bs 5, would be 1) capital ship pre-req 2) if you enjoy bubblecamping all day long and/or want to snipe some 3) soloing level 4 missions (but with the lv5-6's coming up the cmd ship will be greatly appreciated by the group anyway)
Command ships are great for small gang pvp. Great for solo isk-making. And if you have the skills to drive one you will probably be able to spend your time to perfect it now, get all tank/gunnery/drone/whatever you want skills to 5.
Why the hell should I get a carrier? Who cares about dread-busting POS'? Who cares about huge fleets that just lag you out?
Command ships <3 the ships to drive.
--- Remove local, non-dictor bubbles, capital ships, re-move the hp boost and: put 'nos hardpoints' (0-1 on non-amarr, 1 on amarr, 3 arbitrator and 4 amarr recons) |

Those who say a Capitals are faster... consider they need support skills on top of your support skills. Capital modules have capital skill requirements, you will need a tank you know. Also you need jumpdrives etc.. for carrier you need advanced drone interfacing for example, dread needs advanced weapon reconfiguration... etc...
Just having the skills to fly one doesn't mean you can fit all the modules..
As a bonus, capital skills are EXPENSIVE. And so are the ships themselves, also the fit is not that cheap.
Now.. Max out BS then get the command ship. If you don't have AFs and HACs trained a command ship will take considerably longer.
For a capital to go anywhere you either need an alt or a buddy who will help with logistics... it's a hassle blah

Edited by: Biotide on 29/05/2007 20:05:24 I do not want to fly a cap ship due to the cost and the cost of the skills. What I do want is the ability to go around systems (small gang/solo) and shoot everything that moves (be it BS or frigs).
ATM I fly a neutron mega pretty well which is alot of fun to fly around in but would the Eos/Astarte be better at what I want to do (which is just to pop the larget amount of ships possible)?
Also, I don't care about the time, only how much fun the end product is.

if you have t2 large guns, then you have t2 mediums so going for a command ship is just cruiser 5 away as you should have all the other skills needed. Going for BS5 is better as then you have Gal caps. If you where already minny spec'd then I would say go for the sleipnir.

Oh you mean like having to train for Skirmish Warfare V, Siege Warfare V, Information Warfare V and Armored Warfare V then the Specialist skills so you can fit the Gang Modules, Oh and then you need your favourite module type's specialist skill to V so you can fit the mindlink.

Well the main point of a Fleet COmmand Ship is to fit them, the main point of a carrier is to give logistics and fighter support,
