Ive been flying a Crow for a good while now with a rocket laucher based setup and as ive trained my missile skills for the last year i have seen the range in which my rockets travel increase. Last time i checked i could hit somewhere between 11km -> 13km
Just recently i jumped back in my Crow only to find i couldnt hit a standing still target at 10km?! I went to ship setup and calculated the flight time (in this case 3 secs) by the velocity (3150m/s) and what do i get? 9450m range =/
Have i missed something recently? has the recent patch changed the rockets attributes?
I havent lost any skill point of changed my setup for months so i cant see a reason why im hitting at such a bad range (within web range to be precise)
Any idea's?

Range on Tech II Missile Ammo was nerfed.

Perhaps you were orbiting your target and as your Overview said 13km away, your missile had only traveled maybe 6 - 7km becuase of your speed?

Okay, well if i understand this correctly
Crow has a 10% bonus to velocity per level trained
So if we take a thorn rocket which by default has a velocity of 2250m/s and start working out the final velocity based on the inty skill trained to lvl 5 we have this:
2250 trained to lvl = 2475 2475 trained to lv2 = 2722 2722 trained to lv3 = 2994 2994 trained to lv4 = 3293 3293 trained to lv5 = 3622
Get the 3622 and times it by the flight time (3 seconds) and we have at least 10.886kms
Thats (as far as i know) just having Inties trained to lvl5 It doesnt take into account the fact i also have Missile Projection trained to lvl4 giving me 4 more +10% velocity
Am i wrong?

train the skill that increases flight time?

Yes, you're wrong.
Ship bonuses don't work on a per-level basis. If you have Inty 5, you get a flat 50% bonus.
2250 x 1.5= 3375.
Of course, you should have the support skills at four or five too, which would put it up higher.

If you dont have it already, train Missile Projection and Missile Bombardement to 5. That should give you an 50% increase in speed and a 50% increase in flight time. Other then that, i dunno whats wrong ;p

Edited by: Camilo Cienfuegos on 30/05/2007 16:32:10 I'm a corp mate of the OP, and can confirm that his rockets were not firing as far as they should have - tested with him approaching me from 15km, not a single rocket hit until he hit 9km. The OP has:
Missile Bombardment V (10% missile flight time/level) Missile Projection IV (10% missile velocity/level) Interceptors V (10% missile velocity/level)
Velocity: 2250 * 150% = 3375 3375 * 140% = 4725
Flight Time: 2 * 150% = 3
Max Distance: 4725 * 3 = 14175, or 14km
I can confirm that indeed his rockets were only travelling for 9km before dieing when we set out on our operation, and after his client being rebooted twice (and several hours passing) it then reported he could hit at 11km!
My math sucks, but surely something's not right here?

Perhaps it seems that way since he was flying towards you and had thus closed the distance by the time the first rockets (fired at 13-14km out) began reaching you?

Edited by: Camilo Cienfuegos on 30/05/2007 18:05:31 Edited by: Camilo Cienfuegos on 30/05/2007 18:04:26 I neglected to mention that the stats were checked before he undocked and the calculations made, showing that a little over 9km would be the maximum distance the rockets would travel and our experiment confirmed this. Later on in the evening (when we reached our destination station) it showed the maximum distance as 11km...
I also should add that he wasn't consistently approaching me - he would fire a rocket, approach another 1km and try again. Nothing hit until 9km. If like a previous poster mentioned this was an overview bug, it was a bug we were simultaneously suffering from and that refreshing the overview had no effect on.
Judging from the responses, it's only affecting him anyway so I guess he's little recourse but to petition it.

Could it have anything to do with the fact that rockets are treated as torpedos, aka not missiles? " 5% reduction in Signature Radius and 10% bonus to Missile Velocity per level"
MY Interceptor skill is only at 1 but I am using Tech II standard missiles so I can't judge from Rockets not going as far as math tells you yet.
Sounds very funny that it would happen to only you..

That was my first thought - an in-the-back-door nerf of rockets to fit with the RP that a rocket is an unguided missile, and so should not get the extra missile bonuses. However, it shows as over 14km tonight.
Either our entire corp are bonkers, or something has changed in the last 24hrs. Either way, this thread can safely be locked/deleted.

the speed is the max speed, all rockets and missiles waste some time accelerating up to the max speed
