I find courier missions a nice break from mining, enough so that I'm willing to spend a bit of time specializing to be better at it. As I contemplate moving away from cheapo Gallente Shuttles, I have some questions.
I know that small ships like frigates tend to be the fastest, which works out well because I'm poor. Is the Atron a good start, or is there a faster ship not far out of reach?
I know that I can add to base speed by training Navigation and Afterburners, and by using an afterburner as well. Are there any other ways to fly faster out of warp? Do inertial stabilizers reduce turnaround time enough to be worth training for and installing? Keep in mind I'll be sticking to little ships, with low mass and few slots.
I know I need to stack multiple warp core stabilizers to avoid jamming and scrambling, and that stabilizers do nothing against disruptors. Do jammers/scramblers/disruptors work against microwarp drives? Also, is there any counter to a webifier?
I'm sorry if this belongs in the noob forum.

Different ships have different warp speeds, bigger slower, smaller faster etc.
Cov op ships have the fastest, at 13.5 au, duno where your at with skills, though they have pitifull cargo bays......, all in all they are about th ebest for transporting small stuffs around, especially through low sec/0.0
Blockade runners come to mind as well, if you need soemthing with a bit mre hold, drop a mix of mass red rigs and i-stabs and you can ge them to get into warp very fast, very reliable ships, though right now i woudlnt try to run a bubble camp in one......
If very low skill points, and goign for very cheap, any of the tech 1 frigs will do, fit a mix of nanofibers and i-stabs and your set.

Edited by: Jacob Holland on 30/05/2007 07:04:07 The Atron is certainly the best start. The Catalyst can carry a fair amount and achieve reasonable speeds (though the Minmatar Thrasher is the king in that respect). The Exequeror looks hideous and it's quite slow but it does have the advantage of cargo space. Later still it would take very little time to train a little Amarr. The Sigil can be loaded with a selection of Istabs and Overdrives and become about the fastest autopilot hauler around. Much later (and only for small cargoes) the Ares is an option.
Istabs, Overdrives and such are very useful, Istabs will mean you go from standing to warp faster - only rigs will increase the speed at which you actually travel in warp however. --

Only two ships really shine for courier missions:
Covert Ops and Blockade Runners
Covert Ops are the fastest ships out there (in making multiple jumps since it has a 13.5 AU/s warp speed...not sublight although they are fairly speedy there too) and with the cloak fitted are near impossible to stop even by 0.0 bubble camps. Downside is they have seriously small cargo holds.
Blockade runners are a hauler so have a good cargo hold albeit smaller than most other haulers. With just regular expanded cargoholds on a Viator I get 6000 m3 of cargo space which so far has been sufficient for almost every courier mission I have gotten. If you can skip the expanders and toss in i-stabs low the ship is remarkably nimble and fast to warp (throw in Polycarbon Engine Housing rigs for even better performance). Add in a built in +2 warp stab and it is hard to stop. The really nice part is it has a 9 AU/s warp speed. All told the thing is actually faster to travel in than a shuttle. Downside is in the end is is a hauler and while much harder to catch than any other hauler once caught it is dead meat.

For courier missions, use of warp to zero makes subwarp speed not very relevant. The Navitas has a nice large cargohold for a frigate. Train a few levels of Warp Drive Operation if it has trouble warping across large systems.

Spend half a day training Minnie or Amarr frigs, and keep an Executioner or that Minnie frig which is the fastest in the game (forgotten the name - lol) arround. If the packages fit in it, use these.
Thats going to be a lot faster on AP than training for modules to make the speed-challenged ships slightly faster

Probe is fine ship. It has cargo bonus.

I have been doing courier missions to get higher standings with NPC corps(better refine and get higher R & D agents). I have mainly mining and building skills (think I have small rail lvl 2 but drones trained very well)
my current courier mission setup at the agents base:
--- Name ----- Ship ------ Cargo M3 #1 Mission 0.5 Gal Shuttle 10m3 #2 Mission 1.0 Atron ----- 200m3 #3 Mission 1.5 Catalyst -- 600m3 #4 Mission 2.0 Exequror -- 1300m3 #5 Mission 2.5 Iteron Mk4 19,600m3 (3 days until Mark 5, WOOT!) #6 Bee Hive -- Myrmidon -- For the combat missions of lvl3 agents give me now like 80% of the time after last patch
I run 3 lvl3 agents at once and gets me 1 -2 story-line missions per night.

I quite like the Imicus for small to medium courier jobs. IIRC, it has a 320m3 cargo hold; with a can in the hold you can fit in 410m3 in total, maybe 500m3 with a couple of standard expanders. It has the same warp speed as any other t1 frigate, and with warp to zero the speed in real space is irrelevant.
And best of all it's cheap.
By the way, please remember that not all goods will go in a can - usually frozen stuff, livestock and radioactive stuff like enriched uranium.
