edit the prefs.ini file to say:
voiceEnabled=0
This is necessary for EVE to run on Vista. _______________________________________________________________

I just want to add that while that will corect/ fix the error, for some odd reason, I haven't encountered this problem on any vista machine I've used incuding my own, every single vista machione I've installed eve on (total of 6 diffrent computers/laptios, 2 laptops, 3 desktops, diffrent configs, from A64's to C2Duos, yet I have never encountered this problem when install eve on any of these computers, fyi.) but Yes, other people who have had this problem here, this small change works for them, I just thought its notable I've never encountered this problem.

I use vista business and i've not encountered this issue but it seems odd that only some do, might wanna check what GFX cards those affected are using, i have an 8800GTX myself. ---------

Unfortantly that did not fix the problem I search for "prefs.ini" and it only found one file, it didnt contain the command "voiceEnabled=" so I simply added it & saved and again blackscreen. 7600GT
