I've got a research agent tucked away in The Citadel. Like everyone else, I get research missions on a daily basis. Which is fine, I make the daily run down there to check what I've got to do (6 of the last 8 have been homeless missions, irritatingly, but that's a separate issue). However, this means that if I were to decide that I wanted to move somewhere else for a few days (which I've been considering), I'd pretty much have to give up on my research for that time - I'd get a research mission, my research would stop, and without putting in an hour and a half's travelling time round-trip I'd be unable to make progress. So I've found myself wishing I could tell my agent that I'm not going to come and do her mission, and just to get on with it.
Could we be allowed to contact research agents from anywhere and refuse missions? Not be told what the mission is without going to see them, but just to tell them that we're not coming and to sort it out themselves rather than keeping research halted until we fly out ourselves?

Seconded. I've got an alt out in 0,0 with my alliance but she hasn't the chops to fight against present incursions. To do R&D, my main character is stuck in Empire. It would be nice to play both, if mostly to relieve the tedium of missioning.

Not only that, but when the RPM skill is finally introduced, some of us won't want to visit 5 R&D agents every day. ----------------------------------------------- IÆm not schizophrenic... ThatÆs my alt

You should be able to talk to your agent at any station exactly as you talk to him/her now at their station.

i have made 2 posts about this problem since i started using a R&D agent. The only way to fix the problem is to put a remote decline feature in when u talk to your agent from a remote location(another station)

... The research doesn't seem to stop after you receive the mail from the agent, it goes on at usual pace. So all you are missing is really just the bonus for doing the mission.
(that's from personal experience, anyway; if it's supposed to be different then maybe it's a bug :s

So you don't actually HAVE to visit your agent everday? I too want to move back to my hunting grounds in a few days (When I finish building my new Raven) but don't want to lose out on my research. Spelling corrections welcome, but don't expect me to edit my post. |

None of us will WANT to visit 5 R&D agents every day. None of us are obliged to have any R&D agents, let alone 5.

Really? I must admit that I hadn't checked, but that does seem to be counter to what we'd been told - that research would be stopped until the mission was either passed or declined. It's only stopped while you're actually doing the mission then? Fine...

ignorning missions basicly means that you donot loose any form of rp, doing missions means you get a bonus rp. The rp counter stops if a mission has been issued, but you will still keep collecting rp and the counter will display the correct number again after the mission the is either done, failed, declined, expired, ignored. So basicly you _always_ gain atleast the rp/day each day... -------- -The only real drug problem is scoring real good drugs

And that's not a bug? Because it's not how the system was originally described. I'm not complaining (helps me the same as everyone else), but I'm just curious as to whether it's correct...

Nope it's not how the system was described, especially since the missions were termed "stop missions". However I'll also confirm that the RPs keep being accumulated even if there's a mail from the agent waiting. Ravelin Eb

Is there a way to decline an offered R&D bonus mission without loosing standing to the research agent (as there seems no way to improve it)? Last night my agent asked for 18 homeless. As I haven't seen any for quite a while I let the offered (!!) mission sit there until it's timer ran out. The result was a -0.04 standing with my R&D agent.
So besides ignoring the mail with the offered mission which should have no effect, how should one handle a mission which can't be fulfilled?
Thx.

When he offers you the mission, you can decline to take it; or, if you later realise it's a hopeless task, you can go back to him and tell him you can't complete. Either of those would have been better than simply letting the offer expire; once you've talked to an agent, it's always better to do SOMETHING than just wait for the clock to run out.

You can even cancel the mission remotely -- from any station, double click on your research agent to invoke the dialogue box. If you have ongoing mission there'll be option to give up.
I did it just today, since couldn't get the homeless i was asked for. There was no standing loss for doing that. (cancelled those missions 2-3 times so far)

hyuk hyuk omg you are sooo cool whejl can i be you? if not then can i at least be your friend? u and your mighty corp must be sooo skilled to have podded me twice while i was doing missions, sooo soo skilled. super hard to blow up a lone mission-running blackbird with 6 caracals and three battleships.
you are super super cool! but hey at least i show my face even if i am outnumbered, unlike you and your p!ss-ant alliance, hiding in stations and at safe spots until you have at a minimum 3-to-1 advantage in ships.
but ya, keep trolling, maybe you will be cool someday, it will make up for your tiny little swedish pen!s.
