They simply whined and cried to all their friends about how spending 20 hours a week in a virtual game is a waste of time because you get cheated out of what you fought so hard to gain.
So all their friends logged on to find out what the big deal was

Hugely, a guy was in our corp a few months ago. He had the words to some My Chemical Romance song in his bio. I berrated him with insults for weeks, so he left.

Not really, I believe the playerbase is more in a wait and see mode.
I think EVE could easily lose 20-25% of its player base within the first 90 days of another competing Sci Fi based MMO was released.
As for the original poster, remember some folks paid every six months and once a year, so even if they cancelled they might not really be gone for months. It is also possible during that time they might decide to change their minds.
I believe coming out with the last followup helped CCP a good bit. Its not gonna satisfy most, and it'll take time to see if they are actually gonna enforce it, but I do believe it will help them, especially if folks see a change.
