yeah I would be checking for dust, HS misplacement, old hs compound if I saw temps above 80 degrees.. my x850 never goes over 62-63 (aftermarket heatsink tho)

Originally by: Inflicted Take out your card and clean it. You probably have dust built up near the fan/heatsink area so it can't cool properly. Unscrew the little screws over the fan/sink of the video card and clean it.
This helped with my problem,i had the same "BBAA BOOOO BAAAA BOOO" like the op when i restarted my pc.

I was getting graphic card overloads about once a week. Then the last time I vaccuumed my room, I also did the vent covers for my CPU tower and fully blasted the interior with compressed air.
My x1600 Pro cruises along in EVE right around the 65C mark now.
This is my sig, there are many others just like it. With me, my sig is worthless. Without (or with even) my sig, I am worthless... |

Google EVEREST Home Edition 2.20 (not sure if I am allowed to link it) I like it.
It can definitely monitor CPU temp, not sure about VC temp.
Everest monitors all temps, very good program to use

There's a slot fan you can buy that blows up onto the video card. Do a search on slot fan at your top three favorite large, well known on-line dealers and you should be able to find it. ----
signature replaced (max size 24000 bytes) - should be ok now. OK? |

Originally by: ABCmeltdown remove the side case of you pc, and place a fan next to it. I do that and i can touch my videocard and it feels quite cool:)
Yeah, blow dust and crap onto your hardware, I hear that's an awesome way to increase overall performance.

I just ended up buying a new PC, mostly due to Eve.
Eve is *very* CPU intensive. Opening up Eve (even the login page) would instantly peg my CPU to 100%, and it would not go down. This happens on every single core PC I've had the misfortune of thinking of running Eve on.
Eve has fine performance this way - but nothing else does. Setting Eve to have low priority helped some, and keeping another window focused most of the time worked fine for lowering the CPU usage. (Focus increases priority of a process in Windows). I could even run two Eve's (albeit, somewhat slowly), and both would perform equally.
In the end, after quite a bit of testing, I'm confident that there's something in the Eve client that makes it use 100% of its "allowable" CPU while it's running. I've seen some of the software that I've written do this, so I think there's something wrong with the current graphics engine.
Hopefully, with the new graphics engine, they fix this .... because it's very, very stupid.

is your v-sync turned off? without something like v-sync to limit it, every game will render as many frames as it can, and this is always result in 100% cpu usuage all the time.
